Axon function in the CNS has been reported to fail rapidly during anoxia, implying that there is no anaerobic capacity. This phenomenon was reassessed in rodent white matter using mouse or rat optic nerve. Axon function was semiquantitatively measured as area under the compound action potential. Mouse optic nerves exposed to anoxia (30–180 minutes) or cyanide (30–60 minutes) at 37°C exhibited significant persistent function that was abolished by removing glucose. Reduction in compound action potential area increased with anoxia duration reaching a maximum of about 70% after 90 min. Rat optic n

Cerebrovascular impairment due to risk factors such as ageing, stroke, smoking, diabetes and cerebral hypoperfusion has a deterious impact on the normal supply of basic nutrients such as oxygen and glucose to the brain; their absence leads inevitably to neuronal death. The cerebral white matter lesions found in most forms of dementia are reportedly the result of chronic cerebral hypoperfusion. However the temporal and spatial evolution of damage remains unclear. Heath-Jarrow-Morton framework is introduced as an alternative to short rate models, evolving the entire term structure of interest rates. As RMR and MMR define the boundaries of the possible levels of metabolism expressed by a normothermic individual, a key question is whether RMR and MMR are correlated. To evaluate the relationship between RMR and MMR, I took repeated paired measurements of RMR and MMR on 165 white-footed mice (Peromyscus leucopus) during the summer of 2018. Abstract Erosion-corrosion possesses a serious problem for the mining and mineral processing industries. Handling and processing of silica-based solids results in extremely severe wear conditions. Simultaneous action of erosion, corrosion and their synergistic interactions accelerates the material damage. Chrome white irons (CWI) are extensively used in the oilsands industry for slurry handling equipment. Erosion-corrosion resistance of CWI’s depends on the chemical composition, matrix microstructure, types and volume fraction of carbides. In this study, high-Cr white irons were assessed using
