Vascular, especially cerebrovascular, dysfunction may be a critical factor in ageing and dementia. Cerebrovascular impairment due to risk factors such as ageing, stroke, smoking, diabetes and cerebral hypoperfusion has a deterious impact on the normal supply of basic nutrients such as oxygen and glucose to the brain; their absence leads inevitably to neuronal death. The cerebral white matter lesions found in most forms of dementia are reportedly the result of chronic cerebral hypoperfusion. However the temporal and spatial evolution of damage remains unclear. Furthermore, any decrease in the i

The subject of this thesis are selected interest rate models and valuation of interest rate derivatives, especially interest rate options. Time-homogeneous one-factor short rate models, Vasicek and Cox-Ingersoll-Ross, and time-inhomogeneous short rate model, Hull{White, are treated. Heath-Jarrow-Morton framework is introduced as an alternative to short rate models, evolving the entire term structure of interest rates. The short rate models are shown to be special cases of models within the framework. The models are derived using the risk-neutral pricing methodology.

Resting metabolic rate (RMR) represents the lowest level of aerobic metabolism in a resting individual. By contrast, maximal metabolic rate (MMR) reflects the upper limit of aerobic metabolism achieved during intensive exercise. As RMR and MMR define the boundaries of the possible levels of metabolism expressed by a normothermic individual, a key question is whether RMR and MMR are correlated. To evaluate the relationship between RMR and MMR, I took repeated paired measurements of RMR and MMR on 165 white-footed mice (Peromyscus leucopus) during the summer of 2018. This may lead to a subcortical pattern of cognitive decline characterised for example by deficits in attention and concentration. Abstract:
Cerebral ischemia and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) are both characterized by a prolonged inflammatory response and secondary injury phase, yet the spatial/temporal relationships between inflammation and white matter (WM) damage were largely unknown. Thus, I quantified the development of WM damage and inflammation over 7 days after ischemia, and 14 days after ICH. Following ischemia, myelin and axons were progressively damaged, and myelin damage coincided with neutrophil infiltration. Activated microglia/macrophages increased dramatically in the lesion core and edge, and selectively infiltrat
