Abstract:
Axon function in the CNS has been reported to fail rapidly during anoxia, implying that there is no anaerobic capacity. This phenomenon was reassessed in rodent white matter using mouse or rat optic nerve. Axon function was semiquantitatively measured as area under the compound action potential. Mouse optic nerves exposed to anoxia (30–180 minutes) or cyanide (30–60 minutes) at 37°C exhibited significant persistent function that was abolished by removing glucose. Reduction in compound action potential area increased with anoxia duration reaching a maximum of about 70% after 90 min. Rat optic n

. Information about the anatomy of the stomach of white-breedless rats is very rare in the scientific literature. The shape, structure, and topography of rat stomachs are significantly different from those of vertebrates, but the same sections as shark stomachs can be found in them. This structure of white rat stomach sections characterizes the sac-like formation of the digestive tract. In the anterior part of the abdominal cavity of rats, on the left side of the midline, there is a hole for the heart between the esophagus and the line of the lesser curvature of the stomach. This research aimed to determine the effect of giving Sipatah-patah extract toward the histopathological and femur bone growth of white rat that was ovariectomized. The experimental animals that were used were 12 white rats divided into 4 treatment group with 3 repetitions. K0 was the ovariectomized rat without giving Sipatah-patah extract (ESP); K1, K2 and K3 were ovariectomized rats which were given Sipatah-patah extract with multilevel doses of 500 mg/kg BW, 700 mg/kg BW and 900 mg/kg BW for 30 days. An efficient and unbiased stereological method was applied to estimate the white matter volume, the total volume, total length and mean diameter of the myelinated fibers in the white matter and the total volume of the myelin sheaths in the white matter of rat brain. The white matter volume was obtained with the Cavalieri principle. Four tissue blocks were sampled from the entire white matter in a uniform random fashion. The length density of the myelinated fibers in the white matter was obtained from the isotropic, uniform, random sections ensured by the isector. The volume density of the myel

Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) in brown adipose tissue from mice was identified through immunoprecipitation with a polyclonal antibody (anti-HSL) towards rat white fat HSL and Western blotting. An 82 kDa polypeptide, slightly smaller than the rat white fat HSL 84 kDa subunit, was detected and its identity as HSL verified by inhibition properties. The HSL concentration per g tissue was several-fold higher in the mouse brown adipose tissue than in the rat white adipose tissue, but the specific activities per mg protein were similar. Cold-exposure (4°C of the mice for 24 h approximately doubled t
