The land’s snail Theba Pisana (Helicidae) is a very harmful snail that is found on some crops and lives on attacking fruits and ornamental plants. It has another name, which is the white garden snail. Theba Pisana is native to the western Palearctic but it became invasive in many parts of the world. It negatively affects agriculture industries. In this review, we will report the results of some studies about the biology-ecology of the white snail and some other snails. It has been suggested that white colour is beneficial for snails living in arid environments. In this work, shell coloration in the arid-dwelling land snail Sphincterochila (Albea) candidissima was manipulated during aestivation. Snails painted black lost more body weight than did control ones, presumably as a consequence of higher heat absorption. This suggests that light colour is advantageous for this land snail.

Heavy metals are pollutants that cannot be decomposed in the environment, so they have to be removed from the environment by membrane adsorption techniques. The study aims to: (1) synthesize chitosan from rice field snail shells, (2) synthesize and characterize chitosan membranes with varying concentrations of chitosan, and (3) determine the pH and contact time optimum to adsorb Pb2+ ions in solution. Abstract The effect of three forms of active species protection in the Roman snail were studied. On the “source plot” the natural population was supported by introducing hatchlings of farmed Roman snails aged 1+, bred from adult specimens of this population. These hatchlings (age 1+) from “source plot” population were also introduced to the following two natural plots: to the “empty plot”, where the population was formed by introduction of farmed Roman snails in the second year of life (1+) into a selected area which had been emptied of the natural population; to the “inhabited plot”, where fa

The presence of the body colour polymorphism in the tropical invasive pest giant African snail is reported for the first time from South India. Three different body colour polymorphs were recognised viz. grey, black and white. The grey body colour is the most common polymorph. The black and white colour polymorphs are found to be in almost equal proportions in the reported localities with the grey counterparts. The cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences of the three colour polymorphs are found to be identical. The presence of the body colour polymorphism in south India may be attributed

The dependence of the introduction history of Cepaea hortensis in the western regions of Ukraine and the phenotypic variability of this species, concerning the shell and body colouration, is analysed. In areas inhabited by descendants of the primary introduction (most likely, the second half of the 20th century, but not later than the 1970s) no more than three main variants of shell colouration are observed: yellow or white unbanded, white banded. There is also no variability in the body colouration; all snails have a light body, without gray or reddish pigment. The most characteristic feature

Snail allergy is considered a serious form of food allergy with prevalence of 1.4 to 22% worldwide. However, allergy to Pomacea canaliculata, a commonly consumed local snail has not been well-described. Hence, this study aimed to characterize the allergenicity and stability of the allergenic proteins of P. canaliculata by proteomics approach. Snail flesh was treated with several thermal and non-thermal treatments prior to overnight protein extraction. The snail proteins were then subjected to SDS-PAGE, followed by immunoblotting, two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE), 2-DE immunoblotting and

Introduction: Freshwater snails, particularly snails from the genus Biomphalaria, play a key role in the transmission of schistosomiasis, a parasitic disease prevalent in tropical regions. Schistosomiasis poses a significant public health challenge in these regions, leading to chronic illness, reduced productivity, and impaired childhood development, particularly in communities with limited access to healthcare and sanitation. Understanding the seasonal and spatial variations in snail populations and infection rates is crucial for controlling schistosomiasis, especially in areas like Southwest
