The Wiener index is a topological index of a molecular graph, defined as the sum of distances between all pairs of its vertices. Benzenoid graphs include molecular graphs of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. An edge thorny graph G is constructed from a catacondensed benzenoid graph H by attaching new graphs to edges of a perfect matching of H. A formula for the Wiener index of G is derived. The index of the resulting graph does not contain distance characteristics of elements of H and depends on the Wiener index of H and distance properties of the attached graphs.

It is shown that a small L∞ perturbation which does not change the factorization indices will lead to small Lp (1 < p < ∞) perturbations in the Wiener-Hopf factors, but can lead to large L∞ perturbations, unless the derivatives are controlled during the perturbation.

A correlation between the Wiener index (W) and the molecular surface of the respective alkane is established for the first time. This correlation is curvilinear and not particularly good. W is only weakly correlated to molecular volume of saturated hydrocarbons and does not reflect at all their surface-to-volume ratio. By this a long-existing controversy concerning the physico-chemical interpretation of W is resolved.

Through research, the findings highlight the distance, Wiener-Hosoya, and distance signless Laplacian matrices. Do the special features of 'I' have epistemological and metaphysical implications? Many philosophers have thought so. Here I investigate the relation between the first person singular pronoun 'I' and the first person perspective, construed as the perspective of consciousness. First, I discuss the semantics of 'I' as a lexeme of a natural language. The fact that semantic reference and speaker reference always coincide in the case of 'I' is shown to have important consequences: it explains the 'referential guarantees' and the impossibility of 'misidentification' which have seemed so mysterious.

Objetivo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a diferença dos indicadores indiretos de resistência insulínica (RI) – índices triglicerídeo-glicose (TyG) e triglicerídeo-HDL-c (TG/HDL-c) –, em militares do Exército Brasileiro com e sem diagnóstico de síndrome metabólica (SM). Método: Estudo transversal composto por 289 militares do sexo masculino (35,7 ± 9,1 anos), portadores (SM) e não portadores de SM (NSM). It is well known that two statistical optics topics, physical radiometry and random screen (diffuser) optics, can be analyzed using the formalism of (monochromatic) random processes. More than three-fourths of the unburned hydrocarbon (HC) emissions in a typical drive cycle of an automotive engine are produced in the initial 2 minutes of operation, commonly known as the coldstart period.
