Analyzing end, which offers a meditation on representation, racial capitalism, and intimacy, reveals how visual art can be both the scene and mode of address. Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability of persons with aphasia, with and without hearing loss, to complete a commonly used open-set word recognition test that requires a verbal response. Furthermore, phonotactic probabilities and neighborhood densities of word recognition errors were assessed to explore potential underlying linguistic complexities that might differentially influence performance among groups. Method Four groups of adult participants were tested: participants with no brain injury with normal hearing, participants with no brain injury with hearing loss, par

Since the summer of 2000, vertical oozing cankers have been observed on trunks and branches of Persian walnut trees (Juglans regia). Cvs. Fernor, Chandler, Mayette, and Hartley were the most frequently affected, but cvs. Lara and Franquette could also be affected. Brenneria nigrifluens (synonym Erwinia nigrifluens) (3) was isolated from diseased trees from 13 orchards and nurseries in southwestern (Aquitaine, Périgord, Charentes, and Quercy), southeastern (Grenoble areas), and western (near Angers) France. Cankers were observed on trunks and branches where brown-to-black exudates staining the

Tracheal mites, Acarapis woodi (Rennie) (Acari: Tarsonemidae), are important parasites of honeybees, Apis mellifera L. (Morse and Flottum 1997). They enter the prothoracic tracheae and feed through the walls on haemolymph. Currently, these mites are controlled by applying 50 g of menthol crystals in a perforated bag per hive when ambient temperatures are 15°C or more. Even then, it takes 2 weeks for the menthol to perfuse the hive (Herbert et al. 1988; Wilson et al. 1990). In cold climates, sublimation of menthol is too slow to be effective in controlling mites, especially in spring and fall w

This article examines Britain's temporary import surcharge introduced in October 1964, a largely overlooked but significant dimension of the 1964 sterling crisis. Import surcharges (temporary supplementary tariff) were illegal under GATT rules and aroused fury among trading partners. Britain's surcharge is placed in context by consideration of the use of import surcharges by other countries under Bretton Woods as currency crisis management and balance of payments measures, notably Canada's import surcharge of 1962–3 that inspired Britain's. Ten woody plant species were rooted during the summer with half of each species overwintered at 4°C (40°F) and half at 18°C (65°F) minimum night temperature. Half of the plants in each temperature regime received long day conditions while half received short day conditions. By May 1 all species except Snow azalea (Rhododendron obtusum ‘Snow’), Emerald'n Gold euonymus (Euonymus fortunei ‘Emerald 'n Gold’), and deutzia (Deutzia gracilis) had greater dry weights with the 18°C (65°F) long day regime. Deutzia was heavier under the 4°C (40°F) regime with no difference between photoperiod treatments.

Purpose: To analyze the 50% correct recognition data that were from the Wilson et al (this issue) study and that were obtained from 24 listeners with normal hearing; also to examine whether acoustic, phonetic, or lexical variables can predict recognition performance for monosyllabic words presented in speech-spectrum noise. Research Design: The specific variables are as follows: (a) acoustic variables (i.e., effective root-mean-square sound pressure level, duration), (b) phonetic variables (i.e., consonant features such as manner, place, and voicing for initial and final phonemes; vowel phonem

Climatic and edaphicfactors, relating either directly or indirectly to the amount of moisture available for tree use, explained up to 17% of height growth variation. Height growth of the plantations was comparable to that of plantations growing in the pine-mixed hardwood forest cover type of East Texas. The NorthernPost-Oak Bel

Abstract Research shows that financial exploitation of older adults can be difficult to detect and underreported (Deane, 2018; Sullivan-Wilson & Jackson, 2014). Financial exploitation of older adults is both prevalent and costly, with estimated annual losses in the billions (Wood & Lichtenberg, 2017). Initiatives such as AARP’s BankSafe training program demonstrate that the financial services industry can prevent and address cases of financial exploitation (DeLiema & Deevy, 2016). But it is worth exploring how financial professionals perceive their own ability to support older adul

The study group consisted of a total of 328 university students (249 female, 79 male) between 18-32 years old. The average age of the students in the study group was 20.3 and the standard deviation was 1.65. Participants of the study were selected through convenient sampling methods (Fraenkel et al., 2011). The data of this study was obtained by applying the Valued Living Scale (Wilson &Groom, 2002), The Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener et al.,1985) and the Authent
