Full text
Abstract:
The dictionary contains more than 5000 eponymous, acronymic and figurative terms used in such a modern and popular sport in Russia and abroad as ice hockey. Special attention is paid to terms from the field of game technology, its history and rules. The dictionary includes figurative expressions that are actively used in modern hockey. Terminology from the field of sports medicine is widely presented-names of symptoms, syndromes, diseases, injuries that occur in hockey. The dictionary is provided with historical excursions-description of rules, traditions adopted in hockey, stories about famous players of the past, awards given in their honor. The dictionary also contains modern and historical names of hockey arenas in the world, indicating the names of the clubs that play on them, and the main technical characteristics of the arenas. The dictionary provides a wide range of typologies of hockey clubs currently playing and clubs that have become history.
The publication contains a large number of examples of the use of hockey terms in modern sports journalism and scientific literature. These examples are taken from articles by North American sports journalists describing each national hockey League championship game. The book is based on more than thirty years of experience of the author-a professional translator who has been a passionate fan of ice hockey since childhood.
The dictionary is intended for students of higher educational institutions who are studying in bachelor's and master's degrees in the areas of Linguistics, Journalism, Philology, International relations, Advertising and public relations, and Physical culture, as well as for teachers of these areas. This dictionary can also be useful for professional hockey players, coaches, referees, hockey commentators, and specialists. The publication will also be of interest to a wide range of readers who are interested in such a popular and actively developing sport around the world as ice hockey.

Borzyh, Stanislav. Alternatives. INFRA-M Academic Publishing LLC., 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.12737/1487716.

Full text
Abstract:
The monograph is devoted to what the world could be in its alternative manifestations. The five central chapters consistently consider the Universe, life, culture, mind and civilization that are different, but not opposite to ours: the first examines the question of the probability of the presence of such phenomena, and the last describes the expected future that awaits them and all of us. A special approach is used, which does not consist in manipulating known elements and their settings, but in postulating, if possible, completely different components of being and the principles of their action compared to those familiar to us, thanks to which an unusual picture of a parallel landscape emerges, unlike anything else. The work represents the emergence of this genre as such, and not as an auxiliary or additional, its reading does not require special training.
It is addressed to a wide audience.

Abstract:
This introductory chapter provides an overview of Aaron Jay Kernis's achievements. His current Schirmer catalog lists more than one hundred compositions: a dozen orchestral works; another dozen concerti with large orchestra or wind ensemble; a group of works for soloist with chamber orchestra; nearly two dozen compositions for two to six players and the same number of pieces for chorus; fourteen pieces for solo voice accompanied by piano or chamber groups; and a dozen compositions for keyboard. Quantity, however, is but one measure of achievement. In Kernis's case, quality has been repeatedly affirmed by a steady stream of awards and commissions, by the enthusiastic reception from renowned performers, and by the strong response his music elicits from audiences. Indeed, he has already won three major prizes coveted by contemporary composers: the Pulitzer Prize (1998), the Grawemeyer Award (2002), and the Nemmers Prize (2012).

Abstract:
This chapter examines Ray Bradbury's failed attempt to publish a mainstream literary anthology of science fiction stories centered on Mars. The development of the Illinois novel was slowed by Bradbury's increased focus on the science fiction stories he was writing and revising with more and more frequency. Despite Don Congdon's influence with a wide range of editors, these stories were still not selling to the major magazines at all. What sustained both his spirit and his reputation during this period was his almost phenomenal success with the premier award anthologies of the day such as the Best American Short Stories annual and the O. Henry Prize Stories. This chapter considers the impact of Bradbury's anthology awards on his writing life by focusing on his membership in the leftist poetry magazine California Quarterly, founded by Dolph Sharp and others. It also discusses Bradbury's idea for an anthology that would consist of twenty-five science fiction stories, a project that he called “The Martian Chronicles. Edited by Ray Bradbury” and never came to fruition.
