Abstract:

A lo largo de Chile podemos encontrar una variedad de paisajes y climas que van de un extremo a otro, evocando un potencial característico de recursos naturales, propia de aquella abundante diversidad natural visible en los contrastes a lo largo de la franja continental. Recursos que se encuentran de diversas formas, aunque bien sabemos que este escenario es mayoritariamente comprendido a nivel de lo que significan tales elementos dentro del modelo socioeconómico adoptado no solo en Chile, sino en gran parte del mundo. Lo que partió por un interés personal en cómo sería posible vincular la arquitectura con el estado de los bosques nativos del país y su manejo sostenible, resultó en una investigación preliminar, que arroja algunas importantes claves para desarrollar en conjunto con las instituciones pertinentes. Se hizo clara la necesidad de contar con una infraestructura adecuada no solo para un programa de investigación sino además la posibilidad de acercar al público general a lo que realmente implica el conocimiento y conservación de los bosques naturales a lo largo del país, así como el estado del los recursos naturales como suelos o aguas que conforman parte de los ecosistemas silvestres. El sitio sugerido para tal proyecto se ubica en una reserva forestal que pertenece a la Universidad de Chile hace poco mas de 50 años, ubicada en Frutillar bajo junto a la costa del lago Llanquihue: La reserva forestal Edmundo Winkler. Actualmente la reserva se presta para la experimentación silvícola y prácticas estivales de los mismos alumnos de la Facultad de Ciencias Forestales. Sin embargo, su presencia en la localidad es casi desconocida para el público general y tampoco cuenta con una infraestructura adecuada para los programas de investigación nacionales e internacionales que busca promover en este momento la Facultad de Ciencias forestales de la Universidad de Chile. La idea de tal desafío implica desarrollar una respuesta arquitectónica no solo compatible con las necesidades institucionales, sino además plantear un modelo capaz de reconocer las capacidades del entorno del bosque y conllevar una serie de aspectos que evoquen a la sostenibilidad de tal enclave. Por ende, el siguiente proyecto se enfoca en la compatibilidad de aspectos técnicos bioclimáticos en pos de una solución a la altura de un centro de experimentación de estándar internacional.

Abstract:

Cette thèse propose une recherche en deux temps, tout d'abord la reconstructionde la biographie et bibliographie complète du philosophe et pédagogue allemandGottfried Winkler (1739-1814), notamment par des documents inédits. Père du francmaçon,librettiste de Karl Maria von Weber et citoyen d'honneur de Dresde TheodorHell (1775-1856), son oeuvre n'est aujourd'hui connue que par un ouvrage considérépeut-être à tort comme une simple réédition du théologien réputé Johann Lorenz Mosheim(1693-1755). Cette mécompréhension de son oeuvre littéraire découle d'unetechnique d'écriture particulière que nous avons cherché à décoder.C'est pour cette raison que nous proposons dans un deuxième temps l'élaborationd'une méthodologie d'analyse littéraire fondée sur la théorie de l'" écritureoblique " ainsi que l'a formulée le philosophe Léo Strauss dans son essai La persécutionet l'art d'écrire. Cette méthode nous permet un éclairage différent des textes deGottfried Winkler ainsi qu'une analyse historique et philosophique nouvelle de l'auteur.L'accent de la recherche est donc mis sur une méthode de lecture " post-straussienne", augmentée de concepts anthropologiques, sociologiques et philosophiquesmodernes de l'oeuvre majeure de Winkler pour démontrer qu'il ne s'agit nullementd'un simple éditeur de Mosheim, mais bien d'un penseur représentatif, presque symptomatique,de la réalité d'une génération philosophique discrète, déchirée entre l'espritdes Lumières et la peur de la censure.

Abstract:

A general approach to numerically simulating wear in rollingand sliding contacts is presented in this thesis. A simulationscheme is developed that calculates the wear at a detailedlevel. The removal of material follows Archards wear law,which states that the reduction of volume is linearlyproportional to the sliding distance, the normal load and thewear coefficient. The target application is the wheel-railcontact.

Careful attention is paid to stress properties in the normaldirection of the contact. A Winkler method is used to calculatethe normal pressure. The model is calibrated either withresults from Finite Element simulations (which can include aplastic material model) or a linear-elastic contact model. Thetangential tractions and the sliding distances are calculatedusing a method that incorporates the effect of rigid bodymotion and tangential deformations in the contact zone.Kalkers Fastsim code is used to validate the tangentialcalculation method. Results of three different sorts ofexperiments (full-scale, pin-on-disc and disc-on-disc) wereused to establish the wear and friction coefficients underdifferent operating conditions.

The experimental results show that the sliding velocity andcontact pressure in the contact situation strongly influencethe wear coefficient. For the disc-on-disc simulation, therewas good agreement between experimental results and thesimulation in terms of wear and rolling friction underdifferent operating conditions. Good agreement was alsoobtained in regard to form change of the rollers. In thefull-scale simulations, a two-point contact was analysed wherethe differences between the contacts on rail-head to wheeltread and rail edge to wheel flange can be attributed primarilyto the relative velocity differences in regard to bothmagnitude and direction. Good qualitative agreement was foundbetween the simulated wear rate and the full-scale test resultsat different contact conditions.

Abstract:

Foundation uplift is the partial separation of a shallow foundation from soil due to excessive load eccentricity. Foundation uplift can significantly change the seismic response of slender structures, and frames as well. In literature, different support models for foundations are employed in order to simulate foundation uplift in seismic analysis of structures. One of the most widely used models is the Winkler model which assumes distributed tensionless springs beneath a shallow foundation. In this study, two simple algorithms are developed in order to compute static and dynamic response of foundations on tensionless supports. Any formula given in literature for calculation of foundation impedance coefficients can be easily introduced in these algorithms. Hence, the use of Winkler model is critically evaluated through comparisons with the response of a foundation on elastic halfspace. For that purpose, available impedance formulas given for a shallow rectangular foundation on elastic halfspace are used. It is concluded that, the coupling between vertical displacement and rocking of foundation is very significant during uplift. Therefore, the accuracy of Winkler model in uplift v simulation is limited, since the model cannot simulate vertical and rocking response of a shallow foundation concurrently with a single spring coefficient.

Im Oktober 1875 erschien Clemens Winklers Schlüsselpublikation zum Schwefelsäure-Kontaktverfahren. Der Freiberger Chemiker lieferte nicht nur die wesentlichen Grundlagen des Prozesses, sondern initiierte eine Entwicklung, die der chemischen Industrie ein modernes Produktionsverfahren für eine wichtige Grundchemikalie in die Hand gab und damit ihre Entwicklung entscheidend beförderte. Neben Winklers Leistungen werden auch die bisher wenig gewürdigten Anstrengungen der Freiberger Hüttenwerke herausgestellt, denen es nach einigen Umwegen 1879 gelungen war, die erste wirklich funktionsfähige Kontaktanlage in Betrieb zu nehmen.

This study represents the first systematic Formicidae survey in the Bodoquena Mountain Range National Park state of Mato Grosso do Sul - Brazil. We have compared two distinct areas in domain of Deciduals Forests along the Bodoquena mountain range with 10 sites: 5 in the north portion and 5 in the south portion. Our first goal was to describe the leaf-litter ant fauna and compare the community structure between the North-South portions. We believe that it is possible to compare several areas using structured sampling as ALL protocol for the measure of litter ant communities, to estimate the distributions of species abundance, community species richness and the variation in species composition among sites. A total of 169 cryptic leaf-litter ant species were identified in this surveing distributed into 46 genera and 11 subfamilies: Amblyoponinae, Cerapachyinae, Dolichoderinae, Ecitoninae, Ectatomminae, Formicinae, Leptanilloidinae, Myrmicinae, Ponerinae, Proceratiinae, Pseudomyrmecinae. A high incidence of rare species was observed and new species were recorded. The leaf-litter ant communities showed a high richness and diversity indices values. Species accumulation curves showed about 73% of total fauna estimate was registered. The richest genera in species number following: Hypoponera (21), Pheidole (17), Cyphomyrmex (12), Solenopsis (11) e Octostruma (8). New records were obtained for the region including Asphinctanilloides, Amblyopone, Cryptomyrmex and Probolomyrmex. Our results presents that the areas studied showed different arrangements in the composition of the ant fauna, with a replacement of species dominance for each sampling point, indicating high beta diversity. The results suggest that the Bodoquena mountain range complex has influence of the neighbors systems as Amazonian, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest and Pantanal complex, acts as a connection area between these different kinds of environments
O presente estudo representa o primeiro levantamento de Formicidae do Parque Nacional da Serra da Bodoquena, Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil. Nós comparamos duas áreas distintas sob o domínio de Floresta Estacional Decidual através de 10 sítios de amostragem: sendo 5 na porção norte e 5 na porção sul. Um dos primeiros propósitos do estudo foi descrever a fauna de formigas de serapilheira e comparar a estrutura da comunidade entre as porções norte e sul. Acreditamos que é possível comparar várias áreas usando um protocolo de amostragem estruturado, como o ALL (Ants of leaf-litter), para avaliar a fauna de serapilheira, estimar a riqueza de espécies na comunidade e comparar a variação na composição de espécies ao longo das localidades. Um total de 169 espécies crípticas de serapilheira foi identificado neste levantamento, distribuidas em 46 gêneros, dentro de 11 subfamílias: Amblyoponinae, Cerapachyinae, Dolichoderinae, Ecitoninae, Ectatomminae, Formicinae, Leptanilloidinae, Myrmicinae, Ponerinae, Proceratiinae, Pseudomyrmecinae. Uma alta incidência de espécies raras foi observada e espécies novas foram registradas no inventário. A curva de acumulação de espécies indicou que cerca de 73% da fauna de formigas de serapilheira foi amostrada. Os gêneros mais ricos em número de espécies foram Hypoponera (21), Pheidole (17), Cyphomyrmex (12), Solenopsis (11) e Octostruma (8). Novos registros de ocorrência foram obtidos para a região Centro-Oeste dos gêneros Asphinctanilloides, Amblyopone, Cryptomyrmex e Probolomyrmex. Nossos resultados mostram que as áreas estudadas apresentaram diferentes arranjos na composição da fauna de formigas, com uma substituição de espécies dominantes para cada ponto amostral, indicando uma alta beta diversidade. Os resultados sugerem que o complexo da Serra da Bodoquena sofre influências dos biomas adjacentes como Amazônico, Cerrado, Floresta Atlântica e do complexo Pantanal, atuando como um ecótono entre estes diferentes tipos de ambientes
