Abstract:
The aim of this dissertation is to study postmodern historical novels, which are labeled &ldquo
historiographic metafictions&rdquo
(Hutcheon 1989: 92), in terms of their allowing for different voices and alternative, plural histories by subverting the historical documents and events that they refer to. The study analyzes texts from feminist and postcolonial literature, Jeanette Winterson&rsquo
s The Passion and Sexing the Cherry, and Salman Rushdie&rsquo
s Midnight&rsquo
s Children and Shame as examples in which the transgression of boundaries between fact and fiction is achieve

Abstract:
Abstract:
This thesis aims to explore the categories of sexuality and gender through an analysis of Jeanette Winterson&rsquo
s well-known novels, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit and Written on the body, against the background of Butler&rsquo
s concept of performativity and Cixous&rsquo
s &eacute
criture feminine. By underlining the constructedness of these categories and questioning the boundaries of patriarchal concepts and transgressing them, Winterson deconstructs the binary oppositions created by phallocentric discourse and problematizes the verdict that sexuality is inborn. Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the use of parody in Jeanette Winterson&rsquo
s Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit and Boating for Beginners. Winterson uses parody as a means to re-contextualise and re-interpret the Biblical material in a playful manner in these two novels. Moreover, parody becomes a means for her to revise certain other texts and discourses. Due to these parodic references to other texts and discourses, the novels have an intertextual structure and they are open to a variety of interpretations instead of releasing a single meaning.

Abstract:
As many theorists have pointed out, queer history is often erased within traditional, heteronormative historiography. Consequently, historians cannot recount the gay and lesbian past by conventional techniques of evidence and documentation. Instead they recuperate and reinvent queer history using strategies normally associated with the writing of fiction. This thesis examines three works of late twentieth century lesbian historical fiction that rewrite the past in order to render visible queer intimacy, sexuality, and desire. Abstract:
The objective of this paper was to examine a selection of contemporary utopian texts by David Mitchell, Jeanette Winterson and Kazuo Ishiguro in an effort to understand how their alternative realities might address man’s amalgamation of postmodern identities. In the texts, the human protagonists attempted to cast the pastoral landscapes of their youth as sites of safety and sanctity in order to sustain their modern reality, yet their attempts to return to or embrace the pastoral were a failure in part because of the intrusion of modernity into the spaces and in part because they themselves ha
