This thesis presents a hardware implementation of the SoftRate bit-rate adaptation protocol. SoftRate is a new bit-rate adaptation protocol, which uses per-bit confidence hints generated by the convolutional decoder to estimate the channel bit-error rate. Implementing SoftRate requires changes to both the physical and media access control layers. which precludes using existing commodity 802.11 hardware. This project developed a SoftRate implementation on top of Airblue, an FPGA platform for developing wireless protocols. We present a hardware implementation of SoftRate which meets 802.11 timing requirements.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the design and implementation of wireless communication system over the GNU Radio. Wireless applications are on the rise with advent of new devices, therefore there is a need to transfer the hardware complexity to software. This development enables software radio function with minimum hardware dependency. the purpose of this thesis is to design a system that will transmit compressed data via Software Defined Radio (SDR). Some parameters such as modulation scheme, bit rate can be changed to achieve the desired quality of service. in this thesis GNU (GNU’s not unix) radio is used while the hardware structure is Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP). in order to accomplish the goal, a compression technique called H264 (MPEG_4) encoding is applied for converting data into compressed format. the encoder was implemented in C++ to get compressed data. After encoding, the transmitter reads the compressed data and starts modulation. After modulation, the transmitter put the packets into USRP and sends it to the receiver. Once packets are received they are demodulated and then decoded to recover the original data.

Abstract:
Designing efficient and reliable communication protocols for wireless sensor networks in indoor monitoring applications is a challenging task, due to the uncertainty and dynamics of the environment. We consider SERAN, a two-layer semi-random protocol that specifies a routing algorithm and a MAC layer for clustered wireless sensor networks. It combines a randomized and a deterministic approach: the former provides robustness over unreliable channels, the latter reduces the packet collisions. We provide a mathematical model for the protocol that allows us to analyze its behavior and optimize performance. We define an optimization problem, considering the energy consumption as objective function and constraints in terms of error rate and end-to-end delay. A TinyOS implementation of the protocol on a WSN test bed composed by Moteiv’s Tmote Sky wireless sensors is presented. Experimental results validate the model and show excellent performance for low data rate transmissions, with low average node duty cycle, which yields a long network lifetime.

Abstract:
In recent times, there has been a significant amount of research regarding the physical layer of wireless communications . The part of the physical layer, which cannot be ignored, is channel propagation. Different environments have different channels. Path loss, slow fading, fast fading and multipath fading are all involved in decisions regarding the condition of the channel . Based on related research, a number of empirical channel models are put forward to simulate a real environment with regards to communication and there are some simulation softwares that are able to implement those different channels. These include Matlab which is regarded as the best simulation software for the physical layer in wireless communication. OPNET is another network modeling simulation software, which could implement the entire process of the network communication, which Matlab is not able to complete . The network layer of OPNET is very mature and has the ability to implement different routing protocols. However, the description of the physical layer in OPNET is poor and there is only simple path loss model in pipeline modeling in OPNET. Thus, the objective of this thesis is to implement different channel models in OPNET and to make it capable to simulate in as close a manner as possible to a real environment.

In recent years, wireless sensor networks (WSN) has become an active area of research among computer scientists. In this work, JONA, a prototyping kit for wireless sensors, will be described. The intention of this kit is to open WSN research to interested parties outside of the electrical engineering and computer science communities, who may wish to use wireless sensor networks in their own work. The kit's hardware and software are based upon de facto standards for academic research (Crossbow and TinyOS), with an emphasis on low cost and ease of development. This research has the dual goals of describing a classroom kit and developing a self-contained document providing background material suitable for an introductory project-based class on WSN.

Ruprecht, Nathan Alexander. "Implementation of Compressive Sampling for Wireless Sensor Network Applications." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2018. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1157614/.

Full text
Abstract:
One of the challenges of utilizing higher frequencies in the RF spectrum, for any number of applications, is the hardware constraints of analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). Since mid-20th century, we have accepted the Nyquist-Shannon Sampling Theorem in that we need to sample a signal at twice the max frequency component in order to reconstruct it. Compressive Sampling (CS) offers a possible solution of sampling sub-Nyquist and reconstructing using convex programming techniques. There has been significant advancements in CS research and development (more notably since 2004), but still nothing to the advantage of everyday use. Not for lack of theoretical use and mathematical proof, but because of no implementation work. There has been little work on hardware in finding the realistic constraints of a working CS system used for digital signal process (DSP). Any parameters used in a system is usually assumed based on stochastic models, but not optimized towards a specific application. This thesis aims to address a minimal viable platform to implement compressive sensing if applied to a wireless sensor network (WSN), as well as address certain parameters of CS theory to be modified depending on the application.

Cho, Jin-Hee. "Design, Implementation and Analysis of Wireless Ad Hoc Messenger." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/10058.

Full text
Abstract:
Popularity of mobile devices along with the presence of ad hoc networks requiring no infrastructure has contributed to recent advances in the field of mobile computing in ad hoc networks. Mobile ad hoc networks have been mostly utilized in military environments. The recent advances in ad hoc network technology now introduce a new class of applications. In this thesis, we design, implement and analyze a multi-hop ad hoc messenger application using Pocket PCs and Microsoft .Net Compact Framework. Pocket PCs communicate wirelessly with each other using the IEEE 802.11b technology without the use of an infrastructure. The main protocol implemented in this application is based on Dynamic Source Routing (DSR), which consists of two important mechanisms, Route Discovery and Route Maintenance. We adopt DSR since DSR operates solely based on source routing and "on-demand" process, so each packet does not have to transmit any periodic advertisement packets or routing information. These characteristics are desirable for the ad hoc messenger application for which a conversation is source-initiated on-demand. To test our application easily, we have developed a testing strategy by which a mobility configuration file is pre-generated describing the mobility pattern of each node generated based on the random waypoint mobility model. A mobility configuration file thus defines topology changes at runtime and is used by all nodes to know whether they can communicate with others in a single-hop or multi-hops during an experimental run. We use five standard metrics to test the performance of the wireless ad hoc messenger application implemented based on DSR, namely, (1) average latency to find a new route, (2) average latency to deliver a data packet, (3) delivery ratio of data packets, (4) normalized control overhead, and (5) throughput. These metrics test the correctness and efficiency of the wireless ad hoc messenger application using the DSR protocol in an 802.11 ad hoc network that imposes limitations on bandwidth and resources of each mobile device. We test the effectiveness of certain design alternatives for implementing the ad hoc messenger application with these five metrics under various topology change conditions by manipulating the speed and pause-time parameters in the random waypoint model. The design alternatives evaluated include (1) Sliding Window Size (SWS) for end-to-end reliable communication control; (2) the use of per-hop acknowledgement packets (called receipt packets) deigned for rapid detection of route errors by intermediate nodes; and (3) the use of cache for path look-up during route discovery and maintenance. Our analysis results indicate that as the node speed increases, the system performance deteriorates because a higher node speed causes the network topology to change more frequently under the random waypoint mobility model, causing routes to be broken. On the other hand, as the pause time increases, the system performance improves due to a more stable network topology. For the design alternatives evaluated in our wireless ad hoc messenger, we discover that as SWS increases, the system performance also increases until it reaches an optimal SWS value that maximizes the performance due to a balance of a higher level of data parallelism introduced and a higher level of medium contention in 802.11 because of more packets being transmitted simultaneously as SWS increases. Beyond the optimal SWS, the system performance deteriorates as SWS increases because the heavy medium contention effect outweighs the benefit due to data parallelism. We also discover that the use of receipt packets is helpful in a rapidly changing network but is not beneficial in a stable network. There is a break-even point in the frequency of topology changes beyond which the use of receipt packets helps quickly detect route errors in a dynamic network and would improve the system performance. Lastly, the use of cache is rather harmful in a frequently changing network because stale information stored in the cache of a source node may adversely cause more route errors and generate a higher delay for the route discovery process. There exists a break-even point beyond which the use of cache is not beneficial. Our wireless ad hoc messenger application can be used in a real chatting setting allowing Pocket PC users to chat instantly in 802.11 environments. The design and development of the dynamic topology simulation tool to model movements of nodes and the automatic testing and data collection tool to facilitate input data selection and output data analysis using XML are also a major contribution. The experimental results obtained indicate that there exists an optimal operational setting in the use of SWS, receipt packets and cache, suggesting that the wireless ad hoc messenger should be implemented in an adaptive manner to fine-tune these design parameters based on the current network condition and performance data monitored to maximize the system performance.

This paper presents the design and planning of the wireless security systems. The scheme includes IEEE802.11WLAN cell planning, image recognition, software design, web server publish, etc. Indoor wireless LAN offers many advantages, such as roaming, easy maintenance for network, and elimination of wiring around building. The greatest advantage of the wireless security system composed of the CCD equipment and wireless LAN card is that the security system can be located in any private location without wired network. However, link stability and transmission quality between access point (AP) and WLAN card will first be explored. In this paper, we propose a wireless LAN measurement method that uses the wireless LAN card instead of signal generator and surveys the transmission quality within indoor environment in terms of some parameters (RSSI, PER, Link Quality, Data Rate). We also discuss the performance degradation caused by the antenna directivity. In the section of software design, client/server concept is adopted to design a multifunction security software to include the functions of image recognition, E-mail, FTP and SMS to handset, etc. The security software will ftp the newest image to web to provide user with guard function everywhere and compare it with the reference image continuously. When the different pixel numbers of the images exceed a reference threshold, it means the guarded environment is encountering an unusual intrusion or a burst, the software will ftp the unusual images to the internet, send E-mail and short message to user’s handset automatically to allow user to get the information at once. In the section of system structure, the security system will provide functional planning for three different structures based on the wired or wireless characteristic, namely, wireless Ad Hoc security system, wireless Infrastructure security system, and LAN security system. Besides, we will adopt some skills to establish WebPages with an updating function to support users to review the guarded environment immediately and give them different rights through CGI program.

Abstract Wireless and image technology in these years has a great advanced progress. The overall chip not only has been reduced to very small one, but also improves the modulation methodology to let the data transmission more reliable. Many digital video companies focus on the consumer product development like digital camera and digital video camcorder, yet these products are very complexity and expensive. How to implement a low cost and highly integrated wireless camera system is our concern. CMOS sensor has many advantages such as low power, small size and easy integrated with digital circuits. Also, the 2.4GHz GFSK module is a single chip device which is also highly integrated into a single device. We have combined these two small devices into a low cost wireless image acquisition system. From application point of view that can be any digital products front end that needs wireless image function, the system design is also very easy. Wireless capsule endoscopy device is for medical use. We can use this structure to develop a small system; the doctor through the wireless device can monitor the patient status at same time and can control the camera system. The camera system also report the status to the operator, in this control loop we let the doctor has a well status to use this device. In this thesis, we implemented a CMOS sensor-based wireless image acquisition system. A high speed CPLD controller is designed, along with the MCU, to capture the image data from the CMOS image sensor. After image was captured into the video frame memory, the system will transmit the image data via either a 2.4GHz (GFSK modulation) RF module or an NTSC TV transmission module. Finally the image data received by the receiver will be reconstructed by the PC software and displayed on TV or TFT LCD. The thesis will describe the image sensor device principle, interface, and the control method. The image frame grabber design principle is another topic in this thesis. We also introduce in details of the RF module, including the architecture and electrical characteristic. Finally the peripheral devices such as TV-Encoder and Decoder, TFT LCD applications are also discussed. Finally, the simulation and test results are presented

"Full-duplex Wireless: Design, Implementation and Characterization." Thesis, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1911/70233.

Full text
Abstract:
One of the fundamental assumptions made in the design of wireless networks is that the wireless devices have to be half-duplex, i.e., they cannot simultaneously transmit and receive in the same frequency band. The key deterrent in implementing a full-duplex wireless device, which can simultaneously transmit and receive in the same frequency band, is the large power differential between the self-interference from a device's own transmissions and the signal of interest coming from a distant source. In this thesis, we revisit this basic assumption and propose a full-duplex radio design. The design suppresses the self-interference signal by employing a combination of passive suppression, and active analog and digital cancellation mechanisms. The active cancellations are designed for wideband, multiple subcarrier (OFDM), and multiple antenna (MIMO) wireless communications systems. We then implement our design as a 20 MHz MIMO OFDM system with a 2.4 GHz center frequency, suitable for Wi-Fi systems. We perform extensive over-the-air tests to characterize our implementation. Our main contributions are the following: (a) the average amount of active cancellation increases as the received self-interference power increases and as a result, the rate of a full-duplex link increases as the transmit power of communicating devices increases, (b) applying digital cancellation after analog cancellation can sometimes increase the self-interference and the effectiveness of digital cancellation in a full-duplex system will depend on the performance of the cancellation stages that precede it, (c) our full-duplex device design achieves an average of 85 dB of self-interference cancellation over a 20 MHz bandwidth at 2.4 GHz, which is the best cancellation performance reported to date, (d) our full-duplex device design achieves 30-84% higher ergodic rates than its half-duplex counterpart for received powers in the range of [-75, -60] dBm. As a result, our design is the first one to achieve Wi-Fi ranges; in comparison, no implementation to date has achieved Wi-Fi ranges. Consequently, we have conclusively demonstrated that Wi-Fi full-duplex is practically feasible and hence shown that one of the commonly made assumptions in wireless networks is not fundamental.

The modulation techniques in wireless communication systems usually can be classified into three classes, namely amplitude modulation, frequency modulation and phase modulation. In this report we propose a new modulation technique it uses the same concept as the phase modulation but we use different technique, in stead of the conventional pulse shaping, to generate our transmitting signal to make it easy at the receiving side to detect the transmitted signal. At the transmitter side it is through FPGA and uses an on-off keying circuit to control the input signal, it is then in the on-off circuit to generate a phase shift keying like signal and then it is transmitted through an inductor circuit. At the receiving terminal the received signal is amplified and converted into digital signal, it is then through the FPGA circuit to decode the transmitted signal.

Recently, various types of consumer electronic products are appeared on the market by the technological improvement. These consumer electronic products are required to maintain its power for general operations. The power sources are mostly from secondary batteries to keep working. Although secondary battery can be reduced to the environmental pollution with the characteristic of repeated use, the various electronics companies are not designed to the same specifications, so that different manufacturers have different cable charger. When these electronic products are broken, these chargers will not be used any more, and that will results in many unused charger. The wasted charger is not only higher cost to a product, but also not environmentally friendly to the Earth. At present, people have wireless charging applications, such as PHS mobile phone charger and electric toothbrush charger. These methods avoid that the charging cable contacts the power terminal and have more integrated sense to a mobile device. The charger will waste the power when the product is not in use but the charger is in working condition if the charging is completed. That people have to manually disconnect the AC power also caused inconvenience. This thesis provides a smart wireless charger which can charge different types of handheld devices and go into sleep mode to save power consumption after the charging process is completed to meet the current world trends is to reduced carbon and to save energies.

The purpose of Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) architecture is intended to provide mobile users to access Internet content anytime and anywhere. The mobile phone acts as a simple web browser in WAP environment and a WAP Gateway is used as a bridge between wireless and wired network. Therefore, the mobile phone retrieves Internet content through WAP Gateway using the WAP protocol. The WAP Gateway not only plays the role of protocol gateway but also takes charge of the content encoding. In this thesis, we implement a passive WAP Gateway and test the Gateway in IP network environment using PC-based mobile client simulator. The result shows that the gateway works well in IP network.

ABSTRACT With prevalence of wireless communication system such as 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), which can effectively combat against Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI) as well as Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI), has grown to be one of popular techniques. Progress in VLSI manufacturing, furthermore, enables multi-carrier system to be of paramount importance in future mobile communication. Implementation in this paper is based on OFDM 802.11g specification. Base band modulation signals created by MATLAB were transformed into signals in the form of voltage through any Tektronix waveform generator. In order to observe the spectrum of signals in 2.4GHz, we cascaded voltage analog signals to RF module produced by AIROHA Corp. After verifying its validity, the other RF module was utilized to down convert signals from transmitter so that we can extract In-phase and Quadrature signals. Destined for analyzing characteristics of received signals from network card, I-Q signals were afterward stored in Tektronix TDS3032B digital oscilloscope and processed via MATALB. In theory and practice, this experiment enhanced our understanding of RF circuit characteristics, base band signal processing and how radio channel affects wireless LAN.

IEEE standard 802.11 defined that Basic Service Set (BSS) can be connected by Distribution System Service (DSS) to form an Extended Service Set (ESS) in infrastructure mode in order to extend service area. Most of the products in the market implement DSS by connecting to Ethernet. However, requirement for deploying access point to a place without Ethernet plug is still growing. On the other hand, original 802.11 defined frames for Wireless Distribution System (WDS) but did not define how to form the topology and how to use the WDS frames. For the growing requirement of Wireless Distribution System (WDS), 802.11 TGs is now working on developing the specification of 802.11 mesh network, which is called ESS Mesh. Now, SEE-Mesh / Wi-Mesh joint proposal is a basis for 802.11s specification. In this proposal, mandatory protocol is defined under a flexible framework, which provides extensibility for future specification upgrades or user define applications. In this thesis, a platform for 802.11 mesh network is implemented, and several enhancements proposed to provide better performance. By using this platform, issues that only occurs in reality is easier to be figured out and evaluating the effect of new enhancements is more practical.

Wireless communication system is an attractive communication means in indoor environments. To achieve a optimum communication coverage area for an indoor wireless communication system, it is quite important to place the transceivers at the proper locations. This thesis focuses on the study and design of a prediction system for indoor wireless LAN communication system. By a manner of measurement, we collect plentiful experiment data to find the propagation rules of radio wave emitted from wireless LAN cards. We can observe the real characteristics of the practical radio wave propagated in indoor environments by this skill. A novel prediction tool for the programming of indoor wireless LAN, which is called multi-index wireless LAN prediction system, is proposed and proved to be informative. The tool demonstrates an integral technique including measurement, prediction, and calibration. To increase prediction accuracy, the technique of neuron network is employed. Moreover, we utilize genetic algorithm to calculate the environment parameters to shorten prediction time, and simplify prediction process. Without any complex equipment, this system can complete all the prediction works on normal notebook computers. In our prediction system, different transmission quality index, such as received signal strength index (RSSI) and frame error rate (FER) can be chosen to use. Besides, the interference caused by microwave ovens, which would degrade the performance of wireless communication, has also been discussed. Based on our measurement results, the microwave oven effect is successfully involved in our prediction system for the first time. Many experiments are designed and performed in variant indoor environments to verify the performance of our system. By using this system, the prediction results can be obtained within a few minutes. Moreover, according to the experiment results, this system can still achieve accurate prediction results in different indoor surroundings even if using different wireless LAN cards. Further, with a view of convenience to use and the quality variety of radio wave communication caused by indoor interference, it can be more practicable for designers that base on the communication quality repartition rule, proposed in this thesis, to analyze the prediction results.

This paper discusses the efficiency improvement of the wireless mouse using contact-less charging technology. Based on the coil mutual inductance theory, different types and sizes of coils were experimented. Coupling efficiency was measured and compared to verify the contact-less charging improvement. with the improvement in the power supply circuit, a new structure of wireless mouse is proposed. With the high-resolution CMOS sensors, wireless mouse that can detect fast movements on the desktop surface. The computer display can accurately represent cursor displacement caused by slight movements of a mouse, so the dimension of the contact-less primary coil can be reduced in the mouse pad area, which closes the air gap between the primary coil and secondary coil, and improve the rate of mutual inductance, thus enhance the efficiency of contact-less power coupling. Different coil dimensions, different number of turns, and wires with different diameters were experimented in the secondary coil to analyze how they affect and change the curve of coupling efficiency, in order to determine parameters for enhancing the efficiency of the design. Coupling contact-less power implementation with improved efficiency can provide more energy to the wireless mouse battery charger in a short period of time and allows the rechargeable wireless mouse become a practical application. Solve the energy shortage issue with former contact-less wireless mouse design which has to rely on a charging mouse pad for backup power.

This thesis provides a design of a wireless sensor network by wireless routers, RF transceivers and sensor nodes. To communicate with the cloud service, the microcontroller of the sensor node needs to attach to network interface as well as sensors. The major purpose of this embedded system research is to follow the current and future trend of the electronic gadgets. Common smartphones and tablets can connect to our sensor network via Wi-Fi. The main reason of integrating TCP/IP network with RF transceivers is to form a local network using minimum cost. For example, we can simply put a low-cost RF transceiver to let home appliances connect to the Internet. Therefore, this interconnection system can apply to not only the sensor network, but also IoT, smart home, factory monitoring, smart grid, medical care, and so on. Paper mainly contain three main part, first using 8-bit Microcontroller and Kaise’s MQ-5 gas sensor module to build Sensor nodes, second using 8-bit Microcontroller and Nordic’s nRF24L01 RF Module to achieve RF transmission system; third using 32-bit Microcontroller and Microchip’s MRF24WB0MA Wi-Fi chip to accomplish Wireless gateway system architecture, finally Integrate RF systems with Sensor nodes to achieve Sensor Networks.

In this thesis, a novel design of the wireless charging system has been proposed, constructed and experimentally studied. The wireless charging system for mobile communication devices and household appliances with battery-powered sources utilizes the electromagnetic coupling effect for achieving wireless recharging operation that is switched by the infrared circuit. The principal reason motivating us on this investigation is due to the advantages of preventing the risk from getting an electric shock and the particulate pollution by using the proposed wireless recharging system. Owing to the lack of key technologies, such as electromagnetic coupling effect, charging efficiency, and resonance compensating circuit, prototypes of the wireless charging system with a battery have been implemented and put in research. The wireless charging system will be divided into three parts: the supply circuit, the charge circuit, and the control circuit, which have been studied and implemented, respectively. Supply side: Use the Isolated flyback converter to include the power switch, pulse width and adjust becoming and drive the circuit for the main structure, isolate the high-frequency voltage transformer. Charge side : the use of half-bridge rectifier with the smart charging for the main structure, components include rectifier diode and output filter, with the charging control IC. Control side: the use of PIC microcontrollers to achieve supply side and the charging side at both ends of communication, include wireless data packet, encoding, decoding of the design, as well as infrared transceiver optimized adjustments to enhance the overall performance of wireless systems. Wireless data packet that contains the format: Preamble, Sync. Header, Payload, Data Frame Check and Guard time. Finally, the recharging process has been tested for the efficiency of electromagnetic coupling performance by using a 3.7 V lithium battery as the charging load. Moreover, for the enhancement of the efficiency and security in the proposed system, the supply circuit will turn off the power automatically after the recharging procedure has been completed. The prototype of the integrated wireless charging system has been designed, constructed, and experimentally verified.

With the progressing high technology of semiconductor, the size of electrical components is significantly reduced and the consumption of power is also getting lower and lower. For low power measurable/ wearable device, we usually encounter the following problems. One is the size of measurable/ wearable device is too large, it is not comfortable for people to wear and the other is the shortage of battery life. In order to solve these problems; the platform must be reduced size of PCB and more powerful efficiency The systematic architecture of this platform includes Sensor& Micro Controller & Bluetooth 4.0. By means of adjusting the firmware and algorithm, the platform could complete many applications such as thermostat, pedometer and motion detection. All of these can be completed by the same system platform to achieve the beneficial result. In order to show the diversities of this platform, we use three kinds of sensors to evaluate. Humidity sensor is for the test of long-time measurement; Accelerometer is used to build algorithm of pedometer for speed measurement and PIR motion sensor is used to build algorithm of motion detection. All of these are designed to adjust to the diversities of future access interface. For gathering the physical data more efficiently, we use RF to transmit the data and analyze result. What’s more, we use mobile device to gather and analyze the remote data. For the time being, most sensor platforms are designed for single function, and our target is to design single hardware platform which is of multi-functional smart platform. With the progressing of research, the features will be fine-tuned and revised to achieve better performance.

This paper describes a development of a surround sound electronic stethoscope, which split the monaural heart sound signal via transversal filters to produce a pseudo stereo sound for both ears that enables the listener to differentiate the different sounds of the heart easier. Identify and determine the occurrence of various events by hearing is a natural human instinct. For example, we make corresponding actions after hearing the thunder, baby crying or a door opening. In the clinical medicine application the stethoscope is used for a non-invasive signal detection to listen to the sound of human body, especially generated from the heart and lungs. Through a stethoscope, heart murmur, irregular heartbeat can be found. The physicians can also determine whether the relevant organ is abnormal by hearing the sound of air flow through the human respiratory tract and lungs.

Caused by the rapidly development of wireless network applications, and the availability of mobile computing devices, such as PDA’s, cellular phones and notebooks, traditional network system has made tremendous changes in recent years. More and more computers are possessing mobile ability, so the place to connect to the internet will not be confined anymore. Instead, we can connect to internet in many different places. But according to the current internet protocol, users have to re-configure their IP addresses before establishing the connection if they move from one network area to another. In order to break the constraint of different locations or network areas, the Mobile IP technology was born in nature. Nevertheless, there are still some problems of Mobile IP technology in practical, such as triangle routing, double crossing and equipment swapping. So we keep eyes on the mobile service of wireless network, and propose an SIP-based total solution under current network environment. Two major functions included in our framework: (1) Mobility detection: detecting whether the mobile device is roaming between two different network areas or not and carrying out the handoff process by SIP if needed; (2) the mechanism for NAT penetration: constructing a mechanism to overcome the problem of NAT penetration. Through the experiment, the total solution proposed here can get a satisfactory quality to all mobile services and meet the requirements of network transmission.

The first section of this thesis is describing the main components of wireless powering system, the roles that they perform in this system and the design method of them. The components of transmitter of this system are RF (Radio Frequency) signal generator, RF power amplifier and dipole antenna. At receiver, the components are spiral antenna, high sensitivity RF rectify circuit, voltage regulator, battery charging, discharging curve acquisition circuit and Labview analyzing program. The realized charging system is wireless powering charging, discharging system at 916.5MHz. The signal source of this system is ASK RF modulator which modulating base band signal to 916.5 MHz. The measured maximum output power of this ASK modulator is 4 dBm. By using the 800~950MHz power amplifier of RFMD to add 26 dBm, the output power is up to 30dBm to be transmitted to the antenna. And the receiver mainly consists of rectenna and charge circuit. The rectenna is the abbreviation of rectify antenna composed of one receiving antenna and RF rectify circuit. The RF rectify circuit can rectify microwave by Schottky barrier diode to DC source. The Schottky barrier diode used here is HITACHI diode of 1SS106. This diode is usually used as RF detector or high-speed switch. The completion of this charge system can be the begging of the research of wireless powering. The developed rectenna are at 915MHz and 2.44GHz that can rectify the RF electromagnetic wave to DC. The rectenna can be used to charge with a regulator. In the charging application, we cooperate with chemical engineering to research the effect of wireless charging and discharging of Lithium Ion battery by recording the voltage curve of that battery. Let the researcher to analyze the characteristic of that battery easily. The second section of this thesis is focused on the design method of rectify circuit. Making use of Agilent Network Analyzer to get the S-parameter of the diode to design the matching network from antenna to diode, then comparing the difference at different frequency. In experiment, we find that the diode has different impedance at different power level. This characteristic of diode will have significant influence in practical situation. This will be a good project to be discussed in the future.

Abstract:

Secure user authentication, authorization and access control have become the major challenges in any wireless security system, often due to certain wireless network characteristics such as lack of infrastructure, low power availability and mobility. Taking advantage of such network characteristics, an attacker can launch several security attacks like Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, packet spoofing and session hijacking attacks. Packet Level Authentication (PLA) provides an elegant network level solution to the aforementioned attacks by allowing every node in the network to validate the authenticity and integrity of a packet without any prior contact with the originator of the packet.

The cornerstone of PLA is public key cryptography based digital signature which is added do every outgoing packet by the packet originator. Therefore, signature generation and verification schemes of PLA become infeasible in resource-constrained devices if dedicated hardware accelerator is not used.

In this thesis, we present Wireless Packet Level Authentication (WPLA) that extends PLA to offer an adaptive hop-by-hop signature verification scheme. WPLA includes a lightweight signature verification approach for resource-constrained devices while retaining the public key cryptography based signature verification scheme for strong authentication. Furthermore, to ensure end-to-end data confidentiality over the unsecured channels, we integrate a symmetric encryption scheme along with secret key generation and distribution process. Finally, we implement the proposed solution and evaluate the performance of our implementation.

In this thesis we proposed a complete High-Speed-PCB design method and procedure, to improve the circuit design quality, and reduces the miss ratio of the design; High-Speed-PCB design is different from past PCB, traditional low-frequency circuit design only uses EDA tool drawing, and than uses the layout software routing, so it does not need to consider the effect of the circuit, but high-frequency circuit is different. When frequency is up to 50MHz, the circuit will produce a lot of high-frequency effects, but a lot of products are developed towards the trend of light and compact, and products of frequency above 100MHz can see everywhere, so to train the capacity for High-Speed-PCB design is very urgent. “Design and Implementation of SOPC Wireless Communication Platform” combines High-Speed-PCB design with SOPC system design to achieve a wireless communication platform; High-Speed-PCB design focus on the hardware circuit planning, and SOPC system design need to used not only VHDL logic design but also C language design. It makes SOPC have better modifiable flexibility than SOC; such design will be the direction of application and development in the future.
