Abstract:
For a (formally) real field K, the vanishing of a certain power of the fundamental ideal in the Witt ring of K(-1) implies that the same power of the fundamental ideal in the Witt ring of K is torsion free. The proof of this statement involves a fact on the structure of the torsion part of powers of the fundamental ideal in the Witt ring of K. This fact is very difficult to prove in general, but has an elementary proof under an assumption on the stability index of K. We present an exposition of these results.

Abstract:
AbstractDivision algebras occurring in simple components of group algebras of finite groups over algebraic number fields are studied. First, well-known restrictions are presented for the structure of a group that arises once no further Clifford Theory reductions are possible. For groups with these properties, a character-theoretic condition is given that forces the p-part of the division algebra part of this simple component to be generated by a predetermined p-quasi-elementary subgroup of the group, for any prime integer p. This is effectively a constructive Brauer-Witt Theorem for groups satisfying this condition. It is then shown that it is possible to constructively compute the Schur index of a simple component of the group algebra of a finite nilpotent-by-abelian group using the above reduction and an algorithm for computing Schur indices of simple algebras generated by finite metabelian groups.

Full text
Abstract:
In a microplot experiment conducted in 1999 and 2000 on light soil triticale and field beans were grown as sole crops and in the intercrop system. Two pure stand plant densities were established: 200 and 400 plants/m2 for triticale and 50 and 100 plants/m2 for field beans. Four possible intercropping combinations were obtained by adding densities of both crops. Triticale was a better competitor than field beans in all intercrops resulting in competitive balance index significantly greater than zero. The number of pods per plant of field beans was significantly reduced in all intercropping combinations compared to the pure stands, however quality of grain of the legume was unaffected by competition. Intercrop comprising 200 plants/m2 of triticale and 50 plants/m2 of field beans was most productive in the experiment but addition 50 more plants/m2 of the legume decreased significantly grain yield of intercrop by 16.2%. The results also show that effective triticale-field beans intercrop for light soil may be designed as additive one, based on 400 plants/m2 of triticale.

Abstract:
Present study aims to testify usefulness of particular wheat SSR markers for the detection of genetic diversity degree in the set of 59 triticale cultivars and new lines coming from different European countries and USA. For this purpose, a set of fifteen SSR markers were used. One SSR marker (Xwmc429) gave a uniform spectrum. The set of fourteen polymorphic markers provided 94 alleles with an average frequency of 6.71 alleles per locus. The number of alleles ranged between 2 (Xbarc 195) and 10 (Xbarc 137). Resulting from the number and frequency of alleles, diversity index (DI), polymorphic information content (PIC) and probabilities of identity (PI) were calculated. An average value of PIC for 14 markers was 0.640, the highest value was calculated for wheat SSR marker Xgwm 46 (0.809). Based on UPGMA algorithm, a dendrogram was constructed. It was able to separate 57 of 59 cultivars (96,6 %) from each other. American new-line NE-422T significantly separated from all cultivars and new lines. Only two french cultivars Bienvenu and Wilfried had not been separated from each other. A tested set of SSR markers allowed to better understand genetic relationships among European cultivars and American new lines. In general, a dendrogram along with results of calculated genetic indicators such as PIC, PI and DI point out at SSRs markers as high informative and usefull tool in genetic diversity research between close-related species.

Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of this study was to revisit the mitochondrial genetic divergence of North Atlantic populations of the subtidal gastropod Buccinum undatum, because previous mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) analysis by Pálsson et al. (2014) included 16S ribosomal RNA sequences that were incorrectly assigned to the species. In the present study, population mtDNA variation is now assessed using COI sequences obtained from previous research (Pálsson et al., 2014) and, to increase the geographical cover of the study, data from recently assembled transcriptomes of 96 Icelandic whelks (Jónsson et al., 2019) and GenBank are also used. To estimate the mtDNA divergence in B. undatum across the North Atlantic, two species screening indices were used: automatic barcode gap discovey (ABGD; Puillandre et al., 2012a) and species screening threshold index (SSTI; Witt et al., 2006). Phylogenetic reconstruction revealed monophyletic Eastern and Western North Atlantic whelk lineages, which diverged early in the Pleistocene glaciation (2.1 Mya), followed by a subsequent divergence event between Greenlandic and Canadian populations at 1.3 Mya. Species screening indices, ABGD and SSTI, indicated cryptic speciation or allopatric divergence. Genetic distances between populations from the two continents were similar to or greater than interspecific genetic distances across several North Pacific and North Atlantic Buccinum species.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Spaces of orderings provide an abstract framework in which to study spaces of orderings of formally real fields. Spaces of orderings of finite chain length are well understood [9, 11]. The Isotropy Theorem [11] and the extension of the Isotropy Theorem given in [13] are the main tools for reducing questions to the finite case, and these are quite effective. At the same time, there are many questions which do not appear to reduce in this way. In this paper we consider four such questions, for a space of orderings (X, G).1. Is it true that every positive primitive formula P(a) with parameters a in G which holds in every finite subspace of (X, G) necessarily holds in (X, G)?2. If f: X → ℤ is continuous and Σx∈Vf(x) ≡ 0 mod ∣V∣ holds for all fans V in X with ∣V∣ ≤ 2n, does there exist a form ϕ with entries in G such that mod Cont(X, 2nℤ)?3. Is it true that Cont(X, 2nℤ) ∩ Witt(X, G) = In(X, G), where I(X, G) denotes the fundamental ideal?4. Is the separating depth of a constructible set C in X necessarily bounded by the stability index of (X, G)?The unexplained terminology and notation is explained later in the main body of the paper. In a certain sense Question 1 is the main question. At the same time, Questions 2, 3 and 4 are of considerable interest, both from the point of view of quadratic form theory and from the point of view of real algebraic geometry.

Abstract:
This paper compares the weather insurance, weather index insurance and index futures and focuses on why China needs to develop weather indexes and adopt and trade weather index futures. It further discusses how to construct the indexes and futures and how to price them. Different from the Heating Degree Days (HDDs) and Cooling Degree Days (CDDs) used at Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), it develops the Extremely Heating Days (EHDs) and Extremely Cooling Days (ECDs) to derive relevant temperature-based weather index futures. Recently China has started using weather index insurance to cover farmers’ risk. Through comparisons of weather index futures with index insurance, this study shows the necessity and importance of using the weather index futures to better protect farmers and better develop China’s financial markets.

Abstract:
In this paper, the authors deal with a mean-variance enhanced index tracking (EIT) problem with weights constraints. Using a shrinkage approach, they show that constructing the constrained EIT portfolio is equivalent to constructing the unconstrained EIT portfolio. This equivalence allows to study the effect of weights constraints on the covariance matrix and on the EIT portfolio. In general, the effects of weights constraints on the EIT portfolio are different from those observed in the case of global minimum variance portfolio. Finally, the authors present a numerical asset allocation example, where the S&P 500 index is used as the market index to be tracked using a portfolio composed of ten stocks, in which the constrained EIT portfolio shows a satisfactory performance when compared to the unconstrained case.

Abstract:
Background: Spinal anesthesia has become an alternative to general anesthesia. However, spinal anesthesia has the most common side effects including, bradycardia and hypotension. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between changes in the inferior vena cava index (delta inferior vena cava index) to changes in mean arterial pressure in spinal anesthesia. Methods: This study was an observational pre-post test study in thirty-two patients who received spinal anesthesia. The inferior vena cava index (inferior vena cava collectibility index and caval-aorta index) was measured before and after spinal anesthesia (5 and 10 minutes after onset). Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov Smirnov test, Shapiro-Wilk test, T-test, and correlation test with α=5% Result: There was a significant difference in mean arterial pressure (MAP), delta inferior vena cava collectibility index (D-IVC-CI), and delta caval-aorta index (D-CAo-I) before and after spinal anesthesia. D-IVC-CI and D-CAo-I are significantly correlated with MAP. The correlation between D-IVC-CI and MAP had R = -0.371 (P <0.05) at 5 minutes post-anesthesia, while D-CAo-I and MAP had R = 0.472 (P <0.05) at 10 minutes post-anesthesia. Conclusion: The delta inferior vena cava index is correlated with the mean arterial pressure (MAP) value in spinal anesthesia.

Abstract:
Objective : Many studies have indicated arterial stiffness as an independent predictor of hypertension, stroke, cardiovascular events, and mortality. However, the relationship between the severity of coronary artery disease(CAD) and arterial stiffness is still unclear. In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between augmentation index which is a marker of arterial stiffness with CAD and its prevalence. Methods: A total of 80 patients (22 women, mean age 59±8) who were scheduled for coronary angiography with a preliminary diagnosis of coronary artery disease by evaluating their symptoms and findings and coronary risk profiles were included. The other group have 20 healthy patients without any chronic disease history. The augmentation index (AIX), which is an indicator of arterial stiffness, was measured in all cases with the BP+ Central Blood Pressure CardioScope II device in all groups. Gensini score of the patient group was calculated. Results: It was found to be 131% (79-198mmHg) in the AIX patient group and 72.5% (69-96mmHg) in the control group (p<0.001). A positive correlation was observed between AIX and Gensini score, LDL-cholesterol, body mass index and HbA1c in the patient group. In the ROC analysis, the area under the curve (AUC) for AIX was calculated as 0.701 (P<0.001). While AIX was 121% above normal, it predicted coronary artery disease with 94.8% sensitivity and 80.9% specificity. Conclusion: In our study, a relationship was found between coronary artery disease with its severity and arterial stiffness. Augmentation index can be used effectively with low cost in predicting coronary artery disease.

Abstract:
Abstract. Estimates of genetic and phenotypic parameters for growth-related traits involving body weights at 4, 6 (weaning), 8 and 10 (marketing) weeks of age and average daily gains from 4- to 6- and 6- to 10-weeks of age (postweaning daily gain) were computed on 193 males of the Burundian local rabbits . Estimates were then used for constructing thirteen selection indexes, involved body weights at 4, 6 and 10 weeks of age and daily gains, to improve body weights of rabbits at weaning and marketing. The use of weaning weight in an index combined with body weight at 4 weeks of age (W4) and posuveaning average daily gain (index12) or postweaning daily gain solely (index2) resulted in a relative efficiency of about 100 % as using weaning weight combined with body weights at 4 and 10 weeks of age (index,) or with marketing body weight (index2) or W4 (index3). The accuracy of selection (rTI) using these indexes ranged between 0.890 and 0.906. They lead to a progress in weaning weight from 77–79 g and in marketing weight from 54–56 g. However, from a practical stand point, selection on index 3, including W4 and weaning weight, or on index 5, including weaning weight alone, could be recommended for improving both weaning and marketing weights of Burundian local rabbits.
