AbstractNitrogen (N) application and irrigation to winter wheat may decrease leaf temperature and enhance photosynthesis: as a result, more photosynthates will be allocated to the grains, resulting in higher grain yields. To investigate this hypothesis, a 2-year field study was conducted with three levels of N fertilizer application (no fertilizer, N0; 240 kg N/ha, N1; 360 kg N/ha, N2) and two different water regimes (rainfed with no irrigation, R; irrigation at the over-wintering, stem elongation and grain filling stages, W). The results show that both N application and supplemental irrigatio

Abstract The performance characteristics of two bone alkaline phosphatase (ALP; EC 3.1.3.1) assays, a wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) precipitation assay and a new immunoadsorption assay (IAA), were compared. The within- and between-run imprecision of the IAA (3.6-4.2% and 3.6-7.7%) was comparable with that of the WGA assay. The mean cross-reactivity with liver ALP appeared to be 4% in the WGA assay and 11% in the IAA. The reference ranges in a group of 155 healthy Caucasian (pre)pubertal schoolgirls were: 149-401 U/L (total ALP, 30 degrees C), 105-349 U/L (bone ALP, 30 degrees C, WGA assay), and

This paper presents an evaluation of the performance of grooved warm-mix asphalt (WMA) under heavy aircraft loading compared with that of grooved hot-mix asphalt (HMA). Runway surface grooving is often required to provide high skid resistance for aircraft braking, particularly in wet conditions where hydroplaning must be minimized. An area of potential concern with the use of WMA on the surface of airfield runway pavements is the material response to surface grooving. If the asphalt binder in WMA is softer than that of comparable HMA because of reduced binder aging during production and placem

The binding of nerve growth factor (NGF) to specific cell surface receptors initiates a variety of effects that lead to the morphological and biochemical differentiation of clonal pheochromocytoma, PC12, cells. The lectin wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) alters the characteristics of NGF-receptor interaction. We have found that treatment of PC12 cells with WGA dramatically and reversibly inhibits the ability of NGF to elicit three distinct biological effects characteristic of NGF action. Mature αβ and γδ T cells arise from a common precursor population in the thymus. Much debate has focused on the mechanism of T cell lineage choice made by these multi-potential precursor cells. It is widely believed that the decision of these precursor cells to commit to the γδ or αβ T cell lineages is regulated primarily by a specific instructive signal relayed through the appropriate T cell receptor. Contrary to this model, we present evidence for a TCR-independent lineage commitment process. Comparison of global gene expression profiles from immature αβ and γδ lineage thymocytes identified

The aim of this case study is first, to determine the extent to which web 2.0 can be the technology that would enable a strong relationship between government and its citizens to develop in managing road safety and second, to examine the endeavours of the WA Office of Road Safety (ORS) in fostering the relationship. It shows that in ORS’ road safety strategy for 2008-2020, community engagement is strongly advocated for the successful development and execution of its road safety plan but the potential of web 2.0 approaches in achieving it is not recognised. This would involve the use of blogs and RSS as suitable push strategies to get road safety information to the public. Online civic engagement would harness collective intelligence (‘the wisdom of crowds’) and, by enabling the public to annotate information on wikis, layers of value could be added so that the public become co-developers of road safety strategy and policy. The case identifies three major challenges confronting the ORS to become Road Safety 2.0 ready: how to gain the publics’ attention in competition with other government agencies, how to respond internally to online citizen engagement, and how to manage governmental politics.

Abstract:
Main objective of the proposed work is to develop an approach for video coding based on Fractal coding using the weighted finite automata (WFA). The proposed work only focuses on reducing the encoding time as this is the basic limitation why the Fractal coding not becomes the practical reality. WFA is used for the coding as it behaves like the Fractal Coding (FC). WFA represents an image based on the idea of fractal that the image has self-similarity in itself. The plane WFA (applied on every frame), and Plane FC (applied on every frame) coding approaches are compared with each other. The experimentations are carried out on the standard uncompressed video databases, namely, Traffic, Paris, Bus, Akiyo, Mobile, Suzie etc. and on the recorded video, namely, Geometry and Circle. Developed approaches are compared on the basis of performance evaluation parameters, namely, encoding time, decoding time, compression ratio, compression percentage, bits per pixel and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR). Though the initial number of states is 256 for every frame of all the types of videos, but we got the different number of states for different frames and it is quite obvious due to minimality of constructed WFA for respective frame. Based on the obtained results, it is observed that the number of states is more in videos namely, Traffic, Bus, Paris, Mobile, and Akiyo, therefore the reconstructed video quality is good in comparison with other videos namely, Circle, Suzie, and Geometry.

Digital media have drastically changed occupational landscapes. Mobile technologies in particular enable employees to work anywhere at any time. Consequently, expectations for when and when not to work have become increasingly uncertain. This chapter focuses on how self-proclaimed workaholics of Workaholics Anonymous (WA) rely on social support. Through participant observation and thematic textual analysis, the author examines the symbolic interactions that shape members' recoveries. A grounded theory analysis of the data reveals how members reconstruct their work habits through introspective reflection, interpersonal dialogue, and communal sense-making. Drawing from a structuration perspective (Giddens, 1979), the author interprets how these findings can be explored in future research and applied by individuals facing personal and occupational pressures associated with work.

Abstract:
Seeing wireless technology in action around us today, it is difficult to image that just about 20 years ago, the technology and the industry were still in their infancy. Wireless technology has grown in leaps and bounds in the last few years. It is also mind bogging to imagine what will happen to the technology in the next 10 years, if it keeps the current pace. Wireless technology is a new technology that started in the early 1970s. The rapid technological developments of the last 20 years have seen wireless technology as one of the fastest developing technologies of the communication industry. Because of its ability and potential to make us perform tasks while on the go and bring communication to areas where it would be impossible with traditional wired communication, wireless technology has been embraced by millions. There are varying predictions all pointing to a phenomenal growth of wireless technology and the industry. To meet these demands and expectations, comprehensive communication infrastructure based on wireless networking, technology based on wireless local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and Web, and industry based on wireless communication devices are being developed.

Abstract:
West Natuna Basin (WNB) is located in the centre of Sunda Shelf in South China Sea; bordered by the Sunda Shelf's basement to the south, the Natuna Arch to the east, and the Khorat Swell to the north. Tectonic evolution of the WNB has imparted a complex structural history of extension, compression and wrenching related to Cenozoic regional tectonic events, for which the structural evolution reflects a history of Late Eocene-Early Oligocene rifting and Middle-Late Miocene inversion. The regional strike-slip movement that associates to the Three Pagodas Fault System has long been recognised at W

Abstract:
Abstract The jet of kerosene into high-temperature and high-speed air crossflow was studied experimentally, to study the characteristics of penetration and evaporation in afterburner. A fuel injection bar with a 0.6 mm diameter plain orifice was used in the experiment. The angle between jet and air flow was 90°. The tests were conducted at atmospheric pressure. The air temperature was between 400 °C to 800 °C, and the air velocity increased from 100 m/s to 250 m/s, which was close to the working condition of the afterburner. The jet flow rate also increased from 5 kg/h to 40 kg/h. Fuel-PLIF wa
