Abstract In this article, we focus on the origin of the Wolof subject-focus construction (SFC) from a dynamic perspective. In Wolof, argument focus is expressed morpho-syntactically by means of copulaless cleft constructions consisting of the juxtaposition of the focus and a free relative clause. The free relative clause is headed by a determiner, which takes the form a in the case of the SFC. The determiner a is not found anywhere else in the language outside of SFC. We hypothesise that Wolof borrowed its SFC from Berber languages. The sociohistorical scenario, based on oral tradition, could

A minimum of 22 pups were produced in a total of six areas. Overall mean litter size was 2.0 pups/litter. This was the lowest mean litter size recorded for Wolves in North America through observations of pups in summer and was probably related to low availability and vulnerability of ungulate prey. Tachycardia in the neonate was first noted at the age of 6 days, but the heart rate gradually decreased in 8 hours after oxygen was administered. Electrocardiographic examination revealed a Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. A second attack of tachycardia occurred at the age of 2 months and the infant was immediately hospitalized and treated with lanoxin. Serial electrocardiographic examinati

Qualitative research with descriptive methods is utilized, along with the use of the theory of feminism Naomi Wolf's power as a knife of analysis is used to address issues regarding women's power over women and their functions. The purpose of this research is to reveal the power and function of women's power in the novel Destroy, She Said by Merguerite Duras. The results of this study indicate that women have the power gained from self-charm, assertiveness, obstinacy. This power is used

This article is devoted to the study of prototypes in the novel "The Mental Wolf", the images of which are made up of both fictional and real characters. The author brought them out under other names, but the prototypes are easy to guess: Pavel Matveyevich Legkobytov is Mikhail Mikhailovich Prishvin, Alexander Stepanovich Savely Krud is Green, and Grigory Yefimovich Rasputin is a "peasant/elder/wanderer". The intertextual connections between the biographies of the prototypes and the novel demonstrate the author's intention to recreate the reality that he could not depict within the framework o

We present here starburst models based on the most recent grids of stellar evolutionary tracks obtained by the Geneva group. These new models, computed with enhanced mass loss rates during the main sequence and the Wolf-Rayet WNL phases, very well reproduce the luminosities, surface abundances and statistics of WR stars (Maeder & Meynet 1994). This change of the mass loss rates considerably affects the way the WR stars, born in a starburst's episode, are distributed among the different WR subtypes. We compare the theoretical predictions with recent observations and conclude that: (1) to re

Stress concentration often occurs around bolt holes in load-bearing joint structures of large complex equipment, ships, aerospace and other complex machinery fields, which is an important mechanical factor leading to the failure of joint structures. It is of great engineering significance to study the phenomenon of stress concentration on connected structures for the safety of large and complex equipment; meanwhile, the layout of bolts seriously affects the stress around holes. Many scholars have studied the layout optimization of multi-bolted structures through experiments and simulations, bu

The Austrian-born translators Herberth and Marlys Herlitschka exercised considerable influence over the reception of British modernist literature in German-speaking nations. From the 1920s to the 1960s they undertook translations of challenging modernist works, including the poetry of Yeats and the novels of Lawrence and Woolf. This article surveys their lives and work, with a focus on their post-war rendering of Woolf's final novel, Between the Acts. Abstract After discussing the limits and potentialities of the definitions of travel writing proposed by Paul Fussell (1980). Building on this, a comparison between two Italian travel books and two Italian travel blogs about China is proposed.
