The 20th century is definitely the consolidation of Catalan literary movements in which Catalan identity plays a fundamental role. Modernism and avant-garde movements prompted a renewal of literary genres. The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) was a point of conflict that led to the exile of most writers in Catalan. However, they continued publishing their works in Catalan. That´s the case of La Plaça del Diamant by Mercé Rodoreda and Cròniques de la veritat oculta by Pere Calders. That process of exile came to an end between 1962 to 1975 (death of Franco). Terenci Moix, Montserrat Roig, and others belonged to a generation called “generació literària dels setanta.” Most of them were born in Spanish postwar, educated in Francoism, concerned to recover the Catalan national identity, democratic politics, and social liberation of women and gay people.

This article offers a survey on how Spain is discussed in the Italian press in the second half of the 20th century (the time of Franco’s death, the Transición period, the newly born democracy). In particular, newspapers such as La Repubblica and L’Unità will be analysed, as their interest for Spanish culture and literature was continuous over the years. The analysis concentrates on the press, rather than on institutional discourse and academic criticism, in order to better trace the patterns of Italian cultural reception of Spanish topics, especially when intellectuals (such as Marcoaldi) and journalists decide to ‘report on’ and ‘narrate’ Spain’s literary identity. The essay analyses a selection of articles by a number of different authors, to make perceptible the polyphonic effect of the various ‘Spains’.

The chapter argues that discourses of domesticity were connected to modernizing ideals, resistance to social change, and conflicts over gender and family roles, and these meanings often existed simultaneously and even within the same text or cultural product. Nineteenth-century men and women created images of domestic life to present arguments about the many issues to which they related domesticity and to promote ideas about the potential or actual roles for women in society at large. By claiming continuity between the home and the nation, authors of domestic narratives made the case for the importance of women’s role in constructing and maintaining the nation. The division between private and public space gave rise to domestic discourse and the theme of the angel in the house but because that division was rhetorical, many writers envisioned a connectedness between the two realms that allowed for the possibility of women’s seamless movement from the domestic to the public realm. Magazines from Mexico and El Salvador are analysed along with Ignacio Altamirano’s El Zarco, Soledad Acosta de Samper’s novels Laura and Una holandesa en América, and short stories and Cocina ecléctica by Juana Manuela Gorriti.

This chapter presents research on moral judgment from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. First, the authors will present the contribution of Piaget and Kohlberg's work on moral development from childhood to adulthood as well as the work of Gilligan on moral orientation and the difference observed between men and women. Then, the authors will analyze underlying structures of moral judgment in the light of the Dual Process Theory with two systems: system 1: quick, deontological, emotional, intuitive, automatic, and system 2: slow, utilitarian, rational, controlled, involved in human reasoning. Finally, the model of Dual Process Theory will be confronted with data from moral judgment experiments, run on elderly adults with Alzheimer's disease, teenagers with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and children and teenagers with intellectual disability in order to understand how cognitive impairment affects the structures and components of moral judgment.
