The history of women in architecture in Germany began more than a century ago. Although the earlier history of the pioneering women architects is well documented for Berlin, their contribution to the city's post-war rebuilding has so far received little appreciation. Family businesses are operating throughout the world and suggested to be the predominant way of doing business. This is also true in South Africa with its unique challenges and informal sector providing work to many South Africans not able to find work in the formal sector. Women operating in the corporate environment have traditionally encountered challenges in breaking through the glass ceiling in order to be counted as a successful person in her own right. Microcredits is a widely researched topic within development research, however it seems like little research is done on how it helps to empower prisoners’ wives. The literature is mixed, with both positive and negative results of microfinance as a contributor to development, and the most known research on prisoners’ wives is almost 30 years old. This study shows the link between microfinance and empowerment of prisoners’ wives in Medellín, Colombia, a country with a high crime rate and overpopulated prisons. The study was conducted in Medellín through qualitative interviews with 19 borrowers,

African American women (AAW) suffer from disproportionately high death rates due to coronary heart disease (CHD) compared to Caucasian women. Although there have been a number of studies targeting African American adults with CHD in clinical interventions, very few studies have addressed the social determinants of health and the influence of AAW's perceptions of health factors on health outcomes. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to fill the gap in the existing knowledge base by examining the lived experiences of 10 AAW diagnosed with CHD with a focus on the perceptions of environ
