Around the world, the right to health and especially reproductive health right are far from a reality for many women. Reproductive health is of growing concern today. Reproductive health therefore implies that people are able to have a satisfying and safe sexual life and that they have the capability to reproduce and the freedom to decide if, when and how after to do so. Reproduction is a dual commitment but so after in much of the world, it is seen as wholly the women’s responsibility. Results indicate considerable regional variation in ability to afford adequate food, varying between 26 and 58%. Similarly, regional variation was reflected in the percentage of women who had access to hunting or fishing equipment. Participants described culturally relevant FS indicators: foo

Peace agreements are gendered and typically marginalise women and their concerns. The silence on gender issues in peace agreements often leads to the exclusion of women from post-conflict reconstruction and entrenches gender discrimination. A decade ago, in October 2000, the UN adopted Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. The Resolution called for the inclusion of a gender perspective in all peace activities including in peace agreements. This thesis contributes to the literature seeking to reconceptualise human security from a critical feminist perspective. It argues that security is a field of power, implicated in context-specific ways in the (re)production of gendered violences, and that human security must account for how such violences are (re)produced in and through the everyday. It explores how socially and historically embedded security institutions, discourses and practices are implicated in ‘the (violent) reproduction of gender’ (Shepherd 2008), taking as a case study Delhi Police’s initiatives to address violence/cri

Considered the single greatest achievement in ‘engendering’ global security policy, UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (SCR 1325) is celebrated as a triumph of women’s peace movements and transnational feminist organizing. My central claim is that SCR 1325 has both over performed and under delivered. The remarkable achievements it catalysed in establishing new international standards have not been fully appreciated, explored, or understood, while its successful utilisation by women rights and peace activists in the context of 'informal peace building' has not fundamentally challenged the work

In 2000, the adoption of Security Council resolution 1325 on the issue of ‘Women, Peace and Security’ (WPS) heralded the Council’s adoption of a new gender-sensitive approach to security. While an extensive literature has ‘assessed the impact’ of the implementation of this new agenda, limited attention has been paid to interrogating the ways in which WPS policy and its resulting implementation have functioned to discursively reproduce certain understandings of the power relations between women and men.
