'Why men don't listen and women can't read maps.’ ‘Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.’

With respect to gender differences in language use, two theoretical positions can be distinguished: the cultural approach and the dominance view. In the first approach, communication between women and men is regarded as a special case of intercultural communication. In the second perspective, the social superiority of men is reflected in the details of everyday conversations, while women play a more submissive role. Although these two views can be seen as complementary in many respects, there is at least one point of contrast. In the dominance view, the typically male and female conversational

This comparison demonstrates that parables as such cannot simply be used to reconstruct the sociohistorical position of women within either early Christianity or early Rabbinic Judaism.

On the one hand, any substantive definition inevitably comes with a normative claim of what it means to be ‘a real woman’. Since the women’s movement tries to show how women come in all kinds of shapes, it goes without saying that feminists should steer clear from imposing new gender norms themselves. On the other hand, a refusal to define the concept leads to the inability to talk about women as a social category, and hence complicates a feminist plea for women’s rights. If feminists are in

Besides the fact that sexual relationships have been understood and misunderstood in different ways, the possibility of sexual abuse remains a big issue amongst African South Africans. It has been sexual relationships, amongst other factors, that have been widely used by one gender to dominate the other. Sometimes this happens because women, because of their defencelessness, are perceived to enjoy the kind of sexual abuse they are subjected to. It is from this kind of attitude that some people, particularly men, come to the conclusion that sexual intercourse is another form of hospitality that

Feminist hermeneutics aims to illuminate the disparity between the sexes in the socio-cultural narrative as one of more urgent problems in society. In this article the content of the non-sources is analysed, that is, the sources which criticised the prohibition of priestly and clerical marriages butwithoutgiving any information on the lives of thewomen involved.
