This review of Manning’s article wonders at the wonder that Manning describes. It does so first in broad terms that question the experience of wonder that Manning describes and goes on to wonder specifically about her understanding of the experienced realities of thinking in movement. In the course of doing so, the review questions her sweeping away ‘the subject’; questions her hard-and-fast distinctions between phenomenology and Whitehead’s metaphysics and voices wonder about her neglecting complementarities between phenomenology and Whitehead’s metaphysics; questions the validity of her clai

God in Gotham issues a challenge: if religion can survive, nay thrive, in Sodom by the Sea, then maybe we need to revise our theory of secularization of the modern world. The book's subtitle articulates its subversive claims: “The Miracle of Religion in Modern Manhattan.” Its alliterative argument suggests a measure of wonder, one of those features of pre-modern life supposedly banished by secularization and the disenchantment of the world.

How do miracles in the Christian tradition, such as the resurrection of Christ, relate to the methods, explanations, and ways of thinking that science and academic scholarship more generally pursue? Do the two conflict? What is the problem? This article explores seven possible obstacles and argues that none of them constitutes a serious challenge to believing both in miracles as specific acts of God and the value and validity of science. Rather, miracles constitute a challenge to an entirely naturalistic worldview.

Abstract The importance of ‘pedagogical tact’ in relation to experiencing wonder in the classroom.Research has both empirically shown and philosophically defended the importance of ‘wonder’ in and for education. This paper aims to contribute to answering the question how, given the important role wonder can play in education, teachers can stimulate experiences of wonder in the classroom. An experience of wonder is an emotional experience, characterized by experiencing something new and unexpected, or incomprehensible, and which puzzles, surprises, fascinates, and/or astonishes the wonderer.

The phenomenon of wonder has fascinated scholars for centuries, yet today the subject is understudied and not rooted in any specific academic discipline. Attempts at building a preliminary account of wonder reveals that the experience of wonder is characterised by seven properties: wonder (1) is sudden, extraordinary and personal; (2) intensifies the cognitive focus; (3) intensifies the use of imagination; (4) instigates awareness of ignorance; (5) causes temporary displacement; (6) makes the world newly present; and (7) brings emotional upheaval. How might we encourage students to "wonder" and “play” their way into deep learning? It is within the context of design education that I explore this question. Design students are expected to develop expertise in designing for wicked problems and long time horizon futures. This requires efficiencies with understanding and navigating complex systems, drawing productively upon vast information resources, agile prototyping skills and evaluative methods, and resilience in a highly iterative, low-‐signal feedback environment. While experts thrive within the complexity of systems-‐ level thinking,
