Abstract:
In order to meet the requirement of splitting wood to take out the pests in the plant protection research work, the splitting and taking pest machine is designed, which working mode is based on spiral transmission. According to the wear condition, the main structure parameters of the spiral transmission device for splitting were determined. Furthermore, the strength of the dangerous section of screw rod, the strength of nuts' teeth, the self-lock of spiral pair and the stability of screw rod were checked. The virtual prototype of splitting and taking pest machine is made by using SolidWorks software, the motion simulation results show that no interference among the various parts. The test results of the prototype indicate that the machine can meet the job requirement to split wood and take out the pests. In addition, the machine has many features, such as simple structure, working smoothly and low vibration.

Abstract:
The growing interest about wood as fuel regards not only wood chips and pellets but also firewood, especially in mountain and rural areas where domestic heating plants are widely used. Due to the increased demand for firewood, harvesting activities have extended on broadleaved high forests as well as coppice. As a consequence, the diameter of logs has increased requiring larger and larger splitting machines; nowadays it is not uncommon to find on the market splitters able to process logs with diameter up to 50-60 cm. In order to increase the productivity, the effort of machine producers is directed to obtain the complete splitting of the log into firewood in only one step using multiple ways splitting knives. This technical solution may cause some drawbacks especially when the splitting knives are not properly adapted to the log diameter; it happens that the size of firewood is not homogeneous and splinters are produced, which requires using screens to separate them from the main product. In order to evaluate the work quality of a firewood processor, equipped with multiple ways splitting knives, an experimental test has been carried out using a machine in which the log diameter is automatically detected through a laser device; according to the log diameter the multiple ways splitting knives (formed by fixed and mobile knives, the latter hydraulically operated) is properly set up to obtain regularly sized firewood. Furthermore the log is automatically centred on the splitting knife set-up. The results of the experimental test showed that the firewood processor is able to produce firewood with homogeneous size and with a low production of splinters, regardless of log diameter.

Abstract:
The thesis describes the design of the wood-splitting machine including stress and check calculations and design of the hydraulic circuit. For structural design, it is necessary to choose the maximum dimensions of wooden logs, which have length 1,1 m and diameter 0,5 m and over. The machine structure is vertical. Another task of the thesis is a technical report of similar machines and the justification of the design concepts of splitting machine. In the thesis, there is elaborated an experiment on different types of wood splitters, stress analysis calculated by using finite element method and there is also drawn up technical parameters of wood.

Abstract:
The master thesis done within the master study programme Transport vehicles and handing machinery presents a design of a wood splitting machine. The first part of the thesis is a literary review focused on current state in the field of wood splitting machines and on the overview of the most common wood species including their technical parameters. In the second part of the thesis, suitable machine components were chosen for the conceptual design of the wood splitter, taking into account predefined parameters. Then a machine frame was designed and its strength was verified by analytical and FEM method. Finally, drawing documentation for the machine, machine frame and splitting tool was created.

Abstract:
Hybrid powertrains have already proven themselves as viable solutions for reducing fuel consumption while maintaining the same operating performance of conventional ones, which is achieved by using an additional energy source in combination with energy recuperation. Many forestry machinery and tools which are intended for field use are hydraulics-based and powered by tractors or skidders. These tools may also be hybridized by incorporating a properly-sized hydraulic accumulator. This paper proposes an innovative solution of hydraulic fire wood splitting machine which uses a hydraulic accumulator in order to increase its efficiency. A simple model of conventional and hybridized machine is developed and presented in this paper. The model is then simulated over a defined operating cycle with realistic loads. Simulation results show that hybrid structure may improve the splitting performance with lower power requirements. Finally, the conventional and hybridized machine performances are compared and discussed.
