The aim of this study is to analyse how children’s literature for ages 6 – 8 is adapted to pupils with reading difficulties. The material used for analysis in this study is six children’s books, examining some of the criteria by which a text is classified as easy-to-read. The result of the analysis shows that there is a possibility for pupils with reading difficulties to read something other than easy-to-read literature if it is carefully selected. The result also shows that the different criteria for an easy-to-read text cannot alone indicate whether a book as a whole is easy-to-read or not.

With the end of Moore's Law, computer architects have turned to multicore architecture to provide high performance. Unfortunately, to achieve higher performance, multicores require programs to be parallelized which is an untamed problem. Amdahl's law tells that the maximum theoretical speedup of a program is dictated by the size of the non-parallelizable section of a program. Hence to achieve higher performance, programmers need to reduce the size of sequential code in the program. This thesis explores asynchronous work as a means to reduce sequential portions of program. To gain insight into the complexity of, and similarities between, words, we define pattern indices and distances between two words relative a given set of patterns.
In this paper I offer a soc

G.E. Moore’s argument in Proof of an External World” seems to beg the question against the skeptic and to miss the point of the challenge posed by skeptical hypotheses. I propose an interpretation that frees the argument from both charges. Starting from a distinction between the way Moore understood his dialectical position against the idealist and the skeptic, I attempt to illuminate the conception of skepticism that lies behind his argument. I propose that the argument’s core is found in a strong anti-Cartesian statement, even though its relevance for epistemology is to be found in its poten

Thesis (PhD (For))--Stellenbosch University, 2012.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A primary reason for the existence of the forest industry is to provide a renewable and natural resource for much needed timber and fibre products. Substantial improvements in management practices are required to increase forest volume and pulp yields for increased demand. Eucalyptus grandis clonal trees of age 6.75 years, grown in a Nelder 1a spacing experiment, were sampled and analysed to describe the effect of planting density on i) growth and yield, ii) wood properties and iii) pulp and paper quality. The authorities in charge of managing our Andean basins work in unimaginable water-powered landscapes from the Peruvian legislator point of view. They should generate and apply peculiar mechanisms. Why? Because the national legislator is traditionally positioned on the coast, a region very different to the Andean highlands and punas. The use of ethnographic evidence coming from a drainage basin in the Central Andes (Mantaro River, Junin) lets me depict in detail how public officers appeal to mechanisms of location, adaptation and regulation in order to adjust the official regulations, to cover

The ethics of responsibility presents itself today as anew ethics in the age of science and technology, against traditional ethics of duties. lts advantage is that, in the notion of responsibility, several related members may be distinguished: a subject of responsibility (individual or collective), a state-of-affairs and its consequences to respond to, and an instance of responsibility regarding which the subject is accountable.
