Abstract:
The advancement of computer technology for digital artistry in this 21st century has availed new-media technologies for enhancing design practices in technical and vocational studies through the development of sophisticated graphic-application software. Unfortunately, these software are very challenging to learn and employ for creative design practice especially at the Basic and Senior High School levels of education in Ghana. Microsoft Office word belongs to the category of general-purpose application software, developed principally for word processing. Unfortunately, many of its users are oblivious of its capabilities for creative motif and pattern designing. It is embedded with shape designing tools that can be manipulated and modified to create intricate patterns for advancing variety of design concepts. The researcher has explored these tools and adopted them for creating fascinating kente design concepts, based on the design-based research approach. This paper therefore presents a descriptive account of how to use angular and linear shapes in Microsoft Word to create motifs and patterns to develop ideas for kente designing that can be employed by Ghanaian indigenous kente designers to foster idea development to enhance their trade. Keywords: New-media technologies; graphic application software;microsoft office word; creative pattern designing; Ghanaian indigenous kente designers

Abstract:Patient histories, discharge summaries, and medical consultant reports are made up of written texts. Therefore, the gathering and archiving of these texts in machine-readable form has many characteristics of computer-based medical records. In Geneva, approximately 1,540 PCs are connected to the Hospital Information System DIOGENE 2, with the possibility of accessing all the functions offered by the system without losing any of their MS-DOS word processing capabilities. The UNIDOC system, presented in this paper, takes all these features into account, a real marriage of technologies between the MS-DOS environment and the distributed client-server architecture. The INGRES database management system supports the entire archiving process of the medical patient texts, structured by prelabelled paragraphs and automatically indexed. Both the quality and accessibility of the records are enhanced, while the archiving capacity is neither too limited nor too expensive.

Abstract:
The most often used information technologies in the future professional activity of students of pedagogical universities are computer technologies of text, tabular and graphic data processing, work with multimedia data, as well as computer telecommunications. Mastering the skills of working with these technologies involves the study of office suites that allow you to perform data processing work. The use of information and communication technologies provides ample opportunities for the organization of educational and cognitive activities of students. Therefore, it is important to teach students the effective use of information and communication technologies in their professional activities. As far as much attention is paid not only to the knowledge that graduates must master, but also the formation of their professional skills, the most modern requirements for higher education meets a new type of educational tasks – professionally-oriented tasks.
The article clarifies the main aspects of the introduction of professionally-oriented tasks in the educational process of pedagogical higher educational institutions. New possibilities and ways of using a package of office programs in the work of a teacher have been investigated. The professionally-oriented tasks have been applied in creating an educational and methodological complex for students in the study of Microsoft Office 2010. An example of step-by-step and sequential system of tasks for obtaining a certain outcome result taking into account the professional orientation of students has been given. New approaches to the introduction of professionally-oriented tasks in teaching the course “Modern information technologies in the educational process” have been developed. They will allow students to apply skillfully the acquired knowledge and skills to work with office suite programs in their studies, flexibly adapt to situations that arise in the professional activities of teachers, independently acquire the necessary knowledge, effectively use them to solve various problems in practice. A set of interrelated methods was used to solve the tasks included in the study: theoretical: analysis and generalization of scientific and pedagogical literature, modeling of the educational process; empirical: observation of the educational process at school during pedagogical practice and at the university. The introduction of information technology into the educational process of higher education allows teachers to qualitatively change the content, methods and organizational forms of learning.

Abstract:
As co-editor of this IRSH supplement “Uncovering Labour in Information Revolutions”, I have to begin this commentary with a confession. Before I entered the world of abstract knowledge production, commodification, and consumption known as academia, I was myself a worker in a world of much more concrete information processing: I was a computer programmer in the US from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, a time we might now consider the nostalgic heyday of desktop-office information technology (IT). In the spirit of full disclosure, before I leap into an analysis of how we might more broadly conceptualize information technology together with information labor in different historical contexts, I have decided to work through my own historical narrative a bit. After all, if historical practice teaches us nothing else, it teaches that each of us makes sense of the world through the lens of personal experience, leaving historians (among others) with the daunting task of interpreting, translating, and finding patterns of meaning in those experiences. Thus I offer this candid admission: “I was a teenage information worker!”

Abstract The METAL machine translation system originally evolved from a cooperative effort with the University of Texas. After ten years of development, it became a product, intended to serve as a tool for the professional translator. The system is integrated into an office environment, incorporating processes like the automatic deformatting and reformatting of documents and interfaces to various word processing and desk top publishing systems. Recursive grammars and linguistic parallel processing plus a flexible lexicon structure lead to adequate translation quality. Experiences from some twenty installations, while very positive, have pointed out the need for further development beyond the purely linguistic: simplification of the user interface, higher error tolerance and integration with additional tools. Therefore, recent changes in the system have added components like pattern matching, version control, terminology and style checking, automated accounting and interfaces to a terminology data base. Both internal structure and user environment will be described.

Abstract:
Tension in the muscles of the neck has been found to be a major contributing factor to pain and discomfort among office workers. It was the purpose of this study to produce a mathematical model for the prediction of neck muscle tension based on source document placement at a word processing workstation. 20 subjects were electromyographically sampled for levels of neck muscle tension during both reading and typing tasks in six different source document positions. Measures of head position were also taken in each document position under each condition. From this data a series of regression equations was developed which predict neck muscle tension based on both document position and head position.

Abstract:
This study investigated the hypothesis that excessive physical comfort adversely affects mood states generally associated with superior mental performance. This hypothesis was explored in an experiment on office chairs. Eleven subjects evaluated three chair designs varying in comfort for eight hours on three separate days. The subjects performed a word processing task from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Comfort and discomfort were evaluated using the Shackel Scale and the Corlett Scale. Mood states were evaluated using a mood profile survey. The results suggested that the most comfortable chair induced mental mood states such as boredom, tiredness, sluggishness, (lack of) alertness and (less) energetic feeling which are generally associated with lower mental performance. It is suggested that for knowledge workers, comfort and performance may follow an inverted-U relationship. Too little or too much comfort may be detrimental to both physical and mental performance. This moderation on the view of comfort has considerable implications for the design of the modern workplace, particularly for office furniture. Its relevance to the sedentary work-styles prevalent in the United States is also discussed.

The rise of the use of computer technology in various aspects of human life makes it very important in managing and processing various needs of each organization. This also did not escape the use of computer technology in PKK organizations in the Senen sub-district. The need for each report for all activities carried out is one form of the structure of the use of this computer technology. PKK mothers are required to know and are adept at using computer technology so as not to lose to the generations below. Microsoft office WORD is one of the computer applications that are used in the process of making reports on these activities. Microsoft word may be just an application for writing reports that for some people is very easy to do, but not for the PKK mothers. It takes hard work from training so that they are able and able to report on the activities they want and in accordance with the required report format. Through this community service activity held on November 15, 2018, I tried to write a report on its activities in the form of a journal. By raising the issue of using Microsoft Word in writing an activity report with the type of organization taught there is an organization of PKK mothers.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction A substantial literature supports that sleep biases memory consolidation and retrieval for emotionally-salient stimuli. A smaller, yet growing, literature supports that information deemed relevant to future events may also be favored by sleep consolidation processes. However, it is unclear whether both emotion and predictability would act together to bias sleep-dependent memory formation. Here, we utilized a directed forgetting paradigm with negative and neutral word pairs to examine this open question. Methods Sixty young and healthy adults were exposed to word pair stimuli before a polysomnographically-recorded nap. Before the nap, participants were instructed to remember half of the word pairs presented for a later test, and for the other half of word pairs, participants were told to forget them as there would not be a test on them later. Additionally, during encoding, half of the subjects in the sample were exposed to negative valenced, high arousal word pairs while the other half were exposed to neutral, low arousal word pairs. After the nap, subjects were tested on all word pairs presented, regardless of previous instruction. This also included a set of novel word pairs to which participants had not been previously exposed. Results A series of 2x2 mixed measures ANOVAs revealed that individuals had better accuracy (p<.001) and fewer misses (p<.001) for the words they were told to remember compared to those they were instructed to forget. Additionally, participants had relatively few false alarms to novel stimuli, 7.14 times, on average (SD=6.10), out of a possible 50 word pairs. Importantly, contrary to predictions, post-nap performance was not dependent on the word pair valence (interaction p’s>.70). No correlations between sleep stages and memory emerged. Conclusion These findings suggest that predictability of future events may be a relevant catalyst for sleep-related memory processing. Abstract:
This paper investigates the optimal illumination levels for offices equipped with visual display units(VDUs). Twenty-four paid subjects keyed in typical word processing data for 6 min per condition. General illumination was provided by a mixture of indirect and direct lighting sources. This illumination was held at 350 lux at the workstation. The experimental variables for the 6 conditions were: (1) two illuminations of the room wall and (2) three illumination levels in the area directly ahead of the operator. When VDU workstations are illuminated at 350 lux to eliminate glare, operators prefer an intermediate illumination level (800 lux) in the office space to their front over 415 lux or 1170 lux. Operators also preferred increased brightness contrast on the wall. Design should consider not only the workstation itself but also the surrounding.

Abstract:
The data processing systems is a very necessary way to manipulate a data into useful information. The system makes data storage, adding, changing, scheduling to reporting well integrated, so that it can help parts to exchange information and make decisions quickly. The problems faced by GKPI Pal Merah Jambi are currently still using Microsoft Office Word and in disseminating information such as worship schedules, church activities and other worship routines through paper and wall-based worship services. To print worship and report reports requires substantial operational funds, in addition to data collection and storage there are still deficiencies including recording data on the book, difficulty in processing large amounts of data and stored in only one special place that is passive. Based on the above problems, the author is interested in conducting research with the title Designing Data Processing Systems for Web-Based Churches in the GKPI Pal Merah Church in Jambi. The purpose of this study is to design and produce a data processing system for the church. Using this system can facilitate data processing in the GKPI Pal Merah Jambi Church. This study uses a waterfall development method, a method that provides a systematic and sequential approach to system needs analysis, design, implementation and unit testing, system testing and care. Gutmann’s company became involved with industrial wood processing in the mid-19th century, due to the demand for railroad ties for the purpose of building a railway network in the post-revolutionary Habsburg Monarchy. In the wood processing business, the company would hold its steady place word for almost a century, until the Ustasha regime and then the Communist government put an end to its tradition. Its fate was finally sealed in 1946 by the District People’s Court in Zagreb. Belišće was founded in 1884 and within a few years acquired the form of an industrial settlement with factory facilities, warehouses, administrative buildings, cultural centres, and typical apartment buildings. By the end of the interwar period, Belišće had the population of a smaller urban settlement, with a post office serving a number of surrounding villages, factories, a port on the river Drava, and a railway network as a starting point in connecting Slavonia-Podravina with the foot of Mount Papuk in Voćin.Gutmann’s industrial plants, infrastructure and workers were the backbone of a successful family business, which consequently built the township of Belišće.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Extra-Intestinal Manifestations (EIM) occur in nearly 40% of patients with IBD and impact both disease experience and therapeutic decision-making, but are not well captured by administrative codes. We aimed to pilot computational natural language processing (NLP) methods to characterise EIMs using consultant notes. Methods Subjects with a diagnosis of IBD were identified in a single-centre retrospective review of electronic health records (EHR) between 2014–2017. Gastroenterology (GI) notes were annotated by two reviewers for the presence and activity of EIMs. EIM concepts were identified using NLP methods leveraging UMLS libraries and hand-crafted features. EIM characterisation occurred within a ±25-word window around identified EIMs with classifications including inactive concepts (negated, historical, resolved) and active concepts (improved, worsened, active but unchanged). Decisions on EIM status when repeatedly referenced in a document used section-based weighting for status inference, with greatest to least weight ranking for assessment/plan, subjective, past history, exam, and other, respectively. EIM status was classified as ambiguous when multiple conflicting references were present within the same document of approximately equal weight. Model development and testing used an 80/20 dataset split. Results In 4108 unique IBD patients, 1640 (39.9%) had at least 1 EIM identified. The mean age was 41.9 years, 47.2% were male, and 27.0% had biologic exposure. A total of 1240 manually annotated documents (first GI notes) were comprised of 51.1% arthritis, 16.5% ocular, 16.2% psoriasis, with erythema nodosum (EN), pyoderma gangrenosum (PG), and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) together comprising 16.2% of the cohort. NLP models performed well for correctly classifying both EIM presence and status in a testing set, with overall accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 91.2%, 92.9% and 81.8% across all EIMs in notes automatically classified as non-ambiguous (Table 1). NLP methods identified EIM status classification as ambiguous in 38.9% of cases. Conclusion NLP methods can detect and classify EIMs with reasonable performance and efficiency compared with traditional manual chart review. Though source document variation and ambiguity present challenges, NLP offers exciting possibilities for population-based research and decision support.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the sales impact of different types of online word-of-mouth based on their source (user vs critic) and form (structured vs unstructured).Design/methodology/approachThe paper proposed a model by adopting the heuristic-systematic perspective of information processing and tested it using online movie reviews collected from Rotten Tomatoes. A unique dataset was constructed, which matched critic reviews and user reviews with metadata such as box-office sales and advertisement spending for 90 movies. Sentiment information from the textual contents of both user and critic reviews were text-mined and extracted. Data analyses were used to compare the box-office responsiveness of four types of reviews: user numeric ratings, user text reviews, critic numeric ratings and critic text reviews.FindingsCritic reviews and user reviews influence sales through different forms: while user reviews impact sales through their aggregate numeric ratings, critic reviews exert their impact through textual narratives.Practical implicationsThis study provides managerial implications to businesses on how to allocate their resources on different social media-related marketing strategies to maximize the economic value of online user-generated information.Originality/valueThe major contribution of this study is to extend the current understanding of the sales impact of online reviews to their textual aspect, as well as investigate how these textual narratives play different roles when offered by critics and users.

Abstract:
Objective: To review available resources and provide evidence-based recommendations that may optimize otorhinolaryngologic out-patient health care delivery in the “post”-COVID-19 era while ensuring the safety of our patients, healthcare workers and staff.
Data Sources: Relevant peer-reviewed journal articles; task force, organizational and institutional, government and non-government organization recommendations; published guidelines from medical, health-related, and scientific organizations.
Methods: A comprehensive review of the literature on the COVID-19 pandemic as it pertained to “post”-COVID 19 out-patient otorhinolaryngologic practice was obtained from peer-reviewed articles, guidelines, recommendations, and statements that were identified through a structured search of the data sources for relevant literature utilizing MEDLINE (through PubMed and PubMed Central PMC), Google (and Google Scholar), HERDIN Plus, the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Health Library, and grey literature including social media (blogs, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook). In-patient management (including ORL surgical procedures such as tracheostomy) were excluded. Retrieved material was critically appraised and organized according to five discussion themes: physical office set-up, patient processing, personal protection, procedures, and prevention and health-promotion.
Conclusion: These recommendations are consistent with the best available evidence to date, and are globally acceptable while being locally applicable. They address the concerns of otorhinolaryngologists and related specialists about resuming office practice during the “post”-COVID-19 period when strict quarantines are gradually lifted and a transition to the “new” normal is made despite the unavailability of a specific vaccine for SARS-CoV-2. While they target practice settings in the Philippines, they should be useful to ENT (ear, nose & throat) surgeons in other countries in ensuring a balance between service and safety as we continue to serve our patients during these challenging times.

Abstract:
The global business community is experiencing a massive shift towards adoption of outsourced 'back office' transaction services.Called 'strategic outsourcing', it is driven by the desire of global companies to focus on core activities, and to outsource non-core business processes to specialist global service organisations. It is a significant new market for these organisations, expected to be worth US$40 billion globally, by the year 2000.While cost reduction is a major benefit, the outsource service provider offers value-added service by its ability to re-engineer business processes to world best practice, its ability to rapidly transition the client organisation to new technology, and by extracting the efficiencies of shared services processing. The global service organisations see strategic outsourcing as a natural evolution of their service offering.Outsourcing extends beyond the cost reduction strategies of their consulting service projects: downsizing organisation structure, re-engineering to introduce world class business processes, and transition management for introduction of new technology.By evolving from these project based assignments, into provision of on-going outsourced transaction services, the service organisations have the opportunity to establish a different strategic relationship with their clients, and add value that a client organisation cannot achieve by itself.Cost savings come from the operational efficiencies of shared services processing, and the lower operational cost achieved by specialising the processing of non-core, 'back-office' transactions, and sharing overheads between several clients.Additional business benefits result from the partnering relationship, which can produce new industry specialist services3 valuable to other clients within the same industry. It is likely that the role of the service organisation will further develop, from the position of strategic outsource business partner, to that of general contractor, where a client selects one major supplier as the single point of contact for all outsourced services. The general contractor becomes responsible for all outsourced outputs, subcontracts the services of all other outsourcing organisations, and remains solely responsible for their service provision.

Abstract:
Currently, an electronic document management system has been widely implemented in the practice of tax authorities, which allows you to reduce time and labor costs for processing and preparing documents; to provide operational services to the population; to ensure the availability and openness of information to the public about the activities of tax authorities, as well as services provided by tax authorities; to reduce the cost of interaction between the population and tax authorities. However, despite the automation of office work, a number of unresolved problems remains in the field of document management of tax authorities. The relevance of this study is that the main problems of the tax authorities are a large number of routine manual operations performed by employees, as well as a large volume of incoming documents that are received by the tax authorities. The creation of documents, as well as their storage, transmission and search for such documents require significant labor, time and financial costs. That is why recently tax inspections have been working on a comprehensive automation of the inspection’s activities by introducing a system for processing and accounting documents, which will allow you after a while to abandon documents and information presented on paper. The study analyses the electronic document management systems used in the practice of public administration, describes the advantages and disadvantages of each system. The paper also analyses the features of the document management process in the tax authorities. Based on the conducted research, the authors propose the introduction of a modern domestic system built on the “Logic of SED”-platform. This system is aimed at improving the efficiency of work in various areas of joint activity of employees of the organization in terms of automation of project document flow and the possibility of collective work.

A brief review of the UK agricultural industry and the organisations which support it is given. The increasing use of computers, large and small, to assist in all aspects of scientific and technical information (STI) and library work in organiza tions of all kinds and sizes is discussed, with examples. The move beyond on-line bibliographic literature searches to those involving specialist factual databanks and the link with word processing to provide indexes to in-house reports is included. The differing needs of small and large organizations, and those with several office locations are considered. The problem of software packages' (lack of) robustness and comprehensiveness together with their specificity which prevents easy data transfer between computers or over networks is highlighted. The possi bilities of videotex as a bridging device for end-users to bypass computing type problems' are discussed, along with the need to keep data secure from unauthorised users. It is argued that the opportunity for total integration of information services in an organization, beyond traditional STI and library areas, with the help of computers, should now be taken.

Abstract:
A decade ago, access to technology was limited and wiring schools was one of the nation's highest education priorities (NCREL, 2005). Ten years of substantial investments have vastly improved this picture. According to the Secretary's Fourth Annual Report on Teacher Quality, virtually every school with access to computers has Internet access (99%), compared to only 35 percent of schools in 1994, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) (Parsad & Jones, 2005). The Office of Technology Assessment report to Congress in 1995 stated that "Technology is not central to the teacher preparation experience in most colleges of education. most new teachers graduate from teacher preparation institutions with limited knowledge of the ways technology can be used in their professional practice" (Office of Technology Assessment, 1995). The report, in which this statement appeared, titled Teachers and Technology: Making the Connection, was a wake-up call, and over the past years, much remunerative progress has been made. Many states are attempting to address educators technology skills through the creation of teacher or administrator standards that include technology; as of 2003, 40 states and the District of Columbia have such standards (Ansell & Park, 2003). A number of states have adopted technology requirements for initial licensure. For example, 13 states require teachers and/or administrators to complete technology-related coursework, and nine require them to pass technology-related assessments. In addition, a number of states have implemented policies to improve veteran teachers technological skills (Ansell &Park, 2003). Addressing the issues of technology integration into the curriculum, the Maryland State Department of Educations (MSDE) PT3 consortium infused technology into the state's teacher education programs in three ways. First, the consortium used the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards to redesign both arts and sciences and education courses so they incorporate technology-related knowledge and skills. The Maryland Teacher Technology Standards included learning outcomes and, core learning goals and skills for success; it also specifies what students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade need to know and be able to do in English/Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The Maryland State Department of Education (1999) provided expectations for how technology can and should be used to support student learning and instruction. Second, the group developed performance assessments in order to measure the technological competence of teacher candidates. Third, the consortium developed a system for electronic portfolios that incorporates a student teacher's technology performance assessment. These portfolios can be made available to future employers to demonstrate technology-related proficiency. The consortium is statewide and diverse, including several public universities and two communities. According to a report titled, Tech-Savvy: Educating Girls in the New Computer Age (AAUW, 2000), Washington, DC; as violent electronic games and dull programming classes turn off increasing numbers of adolescent girls, the way information technology is used, applied, and taught in the nations classrooms must change. Furthermore, commensurate with rapid changes in technology, a remarkably consistent picture emerges: more boys than girls experience an early, passionate attachment to computers, whereas for most girls attachment is subdued. Margolis and Fisher (2002) reported that computing is claimed as male territory very early in life: from early childhood through college, computing is both actively claimed as guy stuff by boys and men and passively ceded by girls and women. Society and culture have linked interest and success with computers to boys and men. In the words of Margolis and Fisher (2002), curriculum, teachers expectations, and culture reflect boys pathways into computing, accepting both assumptions of male excellence and womens deficiencies in the field (p. 4). Social expectations towards educational leadership in academic and economics terms depend on the integration of technology in every facet of society. The American family survival depends on the abilities and incomes of all adults. The type of technical skills needed to be creative and to survive in the job market escalates daily. Educational leaders must be aware that gender equity among middle school students with respect to the use of computer technology should be grounded in the development of programs that not only address the educational aspect of schools, but also allow students to develop their appreciation for, and understanding of the interrelationship among computer usage, careers, and values. With the implementation of such programs, schools could operate as equalizers for the sexes regarding computer competency and attitudes. Educational leaders have the ability to direct resources to show how computer technology may release the creative impulse in children and allow them to think and learn. Educators need to link the curriculum and technology with student interests. Both male and female students use computer applications that can be linked to the educational setting, such as word processing, Internet, completing homework, reports, and projects, as well as communication through email, self-expression, and personal interest. Educators who are developing these programs must understand how girls lose interest in technology and recognize the different learning styles of each gender. The role of training district school teachers to effectively utilize computer technology within the classroom is important if strides are to be made in supporting girls and women in choosing computer-related careers and using computers as a medium of expression. Institutions of higher education would provide opportunities and hold the responsibility of reviewing the technical construction of each teachers plan. Educational leaders will meet frequently with university representatives to review, discuss, record experiences, develop, modify, and evaluate plans and performances to ensure that teachers receive the training necessary to instruct all students utilizing appropriate computer technology. Degree attainment, certification, and re-certification should be linked to the variation of experiences, the structure, depth, detail, and impact of the program developed by the practitioner in consultation with representatives from higher education and the school district. Partnerships with local school districts and institutions of higher learner should be established to develop programs, which incorporate many of the tenets discussed above.

Abstract:
With the COVID-19 pandemic announced in the world, the task of developing a state policy that can stop the rapid spread of coronavirus infection has actually become the primary task for every state in the world. The problems of interaction between public authorities during a pandemic, the normative regulation of their functioning in emergency conditions in different countries have received different solutions. In the scientific and professional communities of Russia and foreign countries, a consolidated approach to solving the issue of forming a unified legal model of interaction between public authorities and society in the context of the coronavirus epidemic has not taken any shape. The legal regulation of the treatment and prevention of COVID-19 in various countries has revealed problem areas in the healthcare management system. Various models of organization of counteracting the spread of infection have formed in the world. The article is devoted to the analysis of the model of state and legal activity of Sweden, which has chosen an independent original path in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. Attention is paid to the lack of rule-making practice of executive authorities; proving wide powers in fighting the coronavirus epidemic to the Public Health Office under the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, which is involved in organizing work, collecting and processing information about patients, and developing recommendations and measures for the anti-epidemic program. The medical and psychological, economic, financial, cultural, household and other social consequences characterizing the effectiveness of the state’s activity in the conditions of extraordinary events, the necessity of overcoming the negative consequences of lockdowns in the economy and the psychological mood of society and the restoration of a stable social life are characterized.

Abstract:
Abstract The presented method reconstructs a network (a graph) from AIS data, which reflects vessel traffic and can be used for route planning. The approach consists of three main steps: maneuvering points detection, waypoints discovery, and edge construction. The maneuvering points detection uses the CUSUM method and reduces the amount of data for further processing. The genetic algorithm with spatial partitioning is used for waypoints discovery. Finally, edges connecting these waypoints form the final maritime traffic network. The approach aims at advancing the practice of maritime voyage planning, which is typically done manually by a ship’s navigation officer. The authors demonstrate the results of the implementation using Apache Spark, a popular distributed and parallel computing framework. The method is evaluated by comparing the results with an on-line voyage planning application. The evaluation shows that the approach has the capacity to generate a graph which resembles the real-world maritime traffic network.

Abstract:
Cloud computing technologies although in their early stages, have managed to change the way applications are going to be developed and accessed. These technologies are aimed at running applications as services over the internet on a flexible infrastructure. Microsoft office applications, such as word processing, excel spreadsheet, access database and many more can be accessed through the internet, even though the files and applications are housed in the cloud. Cloud computing provides a low cost solution to academic institutions for their researchers, faculty and students. This setup provides an additional benefit because all these browser-based applications can also be accessed through mobile devices in addition to being available to a variety of laptop and desk top computers, provided internet access is available. In this paper we present a solution that is based on cloud computing and can be used for building a virtual environment both for teaching and learning. We present an interactive tool that can be used for science education; we combined various technologies to achieve this goal. The environment and the design proposed can also be used as a platform for exploring and sharing new ideas as well as for designing, modifying and monitoring educational or course contents. In our design under the same environment we also allow integration of different pedagogical approaches to both learning and teaching.

Different English software products are localized into many native languages spoken around the world, the most popular software products localized so far are word processing software and web browsers. The effort has begun to localize these software products in Kiswahili language which is widely spoken in Tanzania, East and Central Africa. Kiswahiliis an official language of Tanzania, and is a national language in Uganda and Kenya. To make these software products useful to Kiswahili speaking community particularly in Tanzania a new Kiswahili spell checker has been developed and, it uses most of the Kiswahili words spoken in Tanzania and its locale identity is sw-TZ for OpenOffice.org and Mozilla Firefox while Kiswahili spoken in Kenya has a locale identity sw-KE which is common for Microsoft office products. It was developed due to the shortcomings of first ever Kiswahili spell checker developed by Open Kiswahili Localization Project(KILINUX). A spell-checking tool called MySpell has been used in developing a new spell checker. The dictionary of a new spell checker consists of 4894 stems and its affixes were created based on Kiswahili noun classification system and by selecting different groups of verb stems that follow the same trends in generating other Kiswahili valid words. Thispaper addresses the shortcomings of the existing spell checker and the approach carried out to develop a new spell checker.

Abstract:
Background Couples struggling with infertility are increasingly turning to the internet for infertility-related content and to connect with others. Most of the published data on infertility and the internet only address the experiences of women, with limited studies focusing exclusively on internet discussions on male factor infertility. Objective The aim of this study was to understand the concerns and experiences of discussants on an online male infertility community and to provide insight into their perceptions of interactions with health care professionals. Methods Using the large-scale data analytics tool BigQuery, we extracted all posts in the r/MaleInfertility community (877 members) of the social media website and discussion board Reddit from November 2017 to October 2018. We performed a qualitative thematic analysis and quantitative semantic analysis using Language Inquiry and Word Count 2015 of the extracted posts to identify dominant themes and subthemes of discussions. Descriptive statistics and semantic analytic Z-scores were computed. Results From the analysis of 97 posts, notable themes and subthemes emerged: 70 (72%) posts shared personal experiences, including feeling emasculated or isolated or describing a negative (28/97, 29%), positive (13/97, 13%), or neutral (56/97, 58%) experience with a health care professional; 19% (18/97) of the posts posed questions about personal semen analysis results. On the basis of semantic analysis, posts by men had higher authenticity scores (Z=3.44; P<.001), suggesting more honest or personal texts, but lower clout scores (Z=4.57; P<.001), suggesting a more tentative or anxious style of writing, compared with posts by women. Conclusions To our knowledge, this study represents the first evaluation of a social media community focused exclusively on male infertility using mixed methodology. These results suggest a role for physicians on social media to engage with patients and connect them to accurate resources, in addition to opportunities to improve in-office patient education.

Abstract:
Automation is ubiquitous and indispensable in modern working environments. It is adopted and used in not only advanced industrial- and technology-oriented operations, but also ordinary home or office computational functions. In general, automated systems aim to improve overall work efficiency and productivity of labor-intensive tasks by decreasing the risk of errors, and cognitive and physical workloads. The systems offer the support for diverse decision-making processes as well. However, the benefits of automation are not consistently achieved and depend on the types and features of automation (Onnasch, Wickens, Li, & Manzey, 2014; Parasuraman, Sheridan, & Wickens, 2000). Possible negative side effects have been reported. Sometimes, automation may lead to multi-tasking environments, which allows operators to be distractive with several tasks. It ultimately prolongs task completion time and causes to neglect monitoring and follow-up steps of the pre-processing tasks (Endsley, 1996). Furthermore, the operators who excessively depend on automation are easily deteriorated in skill acquisition, which is necessary for the emergency or manual operations. Thus, inconsistent performance in automation is a major issue in successful adoption and trust in automation (Jeong, Park, Park, & Lee, 2017). This paper presents an experimental study that investigates the main features and causes of the inconsistency in task performance in different types of automation. Automated proofreading tasks were used in this study, which is one of the most common types of automation we experience in daily life. Based on the similar algorithm of the auto-correct function in Microsoft Word, a custom-built program of five proofreading tasks, including one non-automated and four automated proofreading tasks, were developed using Visual Studio 2015 C#. In the non-automated task used as a reference for individual difference, participants were asked to manually find a typographical error in a sentence. In the automated tasks, auto-correcting functions are provided in two levels (i.e., low and high) of automation and two statuses (i.e., routine and failure of automation). The type of automation is defined as the combinations of a status and a level. Participants identified typographical errors by only an underlined word at the low-level automation, whereas an underlined word with a possible substituting word was given at the high-level. Additionally, in the routine automation status, a correct substituting word is provided. On the other hand, a grammatically incorrect word is given in the failed automation status. Nineteen participants (11 females and 8 males; age mean = 33.8, standard deviation = 19.1) took part in this study. Results of statistical analyses show a clear advantage in high-routine automation, in terms of both task completion time and accuracy. While task performances of high & routine automation types are quite obvious in both task completion time and accuracy, those in the failed automation types are mixed and indistinguishable. Different levels and statues of failed automation do not much influence task performance. Moreover, task completion time and mental demand are strongly correlated, and the accuracy rate and perceived trust show a strong positive correlation. The approaches and outcomes of the current study can provide some insights into the human-automation interaction systems that support human performance and safety, such as in-vehicle warning systems and automated vehicle controls.

Abstract:
1555 Background: Screening every patient for clinical trials is time-consuming, costly and inefficient. Developing an automated method for identifying patients who have potential disease progression, at the point where the practice first receives their radiology reports, but prior to the patient’s office visit, would greatly increase the efficiency of clinical trial operations and likely result in more patients being offered trial opportunities. Methods: Using Natural Language Processing (NLP) methodology, we developed a text parsing algorithm to automatically extract information about potential new disease or disease progression from multi-institutional, free-text radiology reports (CT, PET, bone scan, MRI or x-ray). We combined semantic dictionary mapping and machine learning techniques to normalize the linguistic and formatting variations in the text, training the XGBoost model particularly to achieve a high precision and accuracy to satisfy clinical trial screening requirements. In order to be comprehensive, we enhanced the model vocabulary using a multi-institutional dataset which includes reports from two academic institutions. Results: A dataset of 732 de-identified radiology reports were curated (two MDs agreed on potential new disease/dz progression vs stable) and the model was repeatedly re-trained for each fold where the folds were randomly selected. The final model achieved consistent precision (>0.87 precision) and accuracy (>0.87 accuracy). See the table for a summary of the results, by radiology report type. We are continuing work on the model to validate accuracy and precision using a new and unique set of reports. Conclusions: NLP systems can be used to identify patients who potentially have suffered new disease or disease progression and reduce the human effort in screening or clinical trials. Efforts are ongoing to integrate the NLP process into existing EHR reporting. New imaging reports sent via interface to the EHR will be extracted daily using a database query and will be provided via secure electronic transport to the NLP system. Patients with higher likelihood of disease progression will be automatically identified, and their reports routed to the clinical trials office for clinical trial screening parallel to physician EHR mailbox reporting. The over-arching goal of the project is to increase clinical trial enrollment. 5-fold cross-validation performance of the NLP model in terms of accuracy, precision and recall averaged across all the folds.[Table: see text]

Abstract:
Objectives - to assess the level of doctors' qualification by means of sociological survey. Material and methods. The study was conducted in a large city out-patient hospital, where 105 doctors of different specialities were interviewed. The respondents' average age was 44.7+1.9 years; average period of work -16.4+1.8 years. A special questionnaire comprised of 35 questions. The respondents were asked to assess, using a five-point scale, their skills and knowledge of various topics, including special clinical knowledge, prevention, sanitary-epidemiological regimen, psychology, healthcare organization and economics, legal regulation of medical activity. The statistical processing of collected data was performed with the Microsoft Office 2016 programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel. Results. The average self-assessment score for various aspects ranged from 3.1 to 4.4. The lowest score was registered in the knowledge of public health organization, regulations and healthcare economics. Among the respondents, the maximum self-assessment scores were given by emergency doctors, and the lowest - by therapeutists (general practitioners). Conclusion. The revealed deficit of knowledge in some aspects (especially in matters of healthcare organization) is a factor that may impede the implementation of one of the basic principles of total quality management - the principle of staff involvement. This requires not only a review of educational programs in medical universities, but also the appropriate adjustment of the programs of postgraduate training, as well as tasks (tests, OSCE stations) performed by doctors of different specialities in the process of their accreditation.

The purpose of this paper is to obtain thematic maps and topographic analyzes determined on the field and processed through the basic programs of AutoCAD, TopoLT and Global Mapper which along with topogeodezical details high up in on the field create a database required to implement a feasibility study, as a previous step of the general cadastre in the Farcasesti village, Gorj county.Topographical surveying were made with GNSS technology using the RTK-Kinematic method, South V-82 type in Real Time and data processing was performed by specialized graphics programs.Field data collected with GPS RTK were transferred to a computer using specialized software LeicaGeo Combined Office and other software like Notepad, Excel, Word, AutoCad 2013. The imported data from the field in three spatial coordinates, respectively X, Y and Z, were the basis for drawing up planimetric situation plans by outlining the details of the terrain and elevation. In the present paper, we demonstrate that the use of GPS technology made possible topogeodezical data collection from a large area with high precision in a short time using reduced material and human resources. This allowed us to import data from the field by using topogeodezical specialized programs and accurately achieve the outlines of buildings and perimeter, as verified by superimposing them on orthophotomap. Achieving digital plans using AutoCAD Architectural demonstrated that they can be made with accuracy and precision permitting various analyzes of land, including the construction of contour in 2D and 3D.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop a text extraction tool for scanned documents that would extract text and build the keywords corpus and key phrases corpus for the document without manual intervention. Design/methodology/approach For text extraction from scanned documents, a Web-based optical character recognition (OCR) tool was developed. OCR is a well-established technology, so to develop the OCR, Microsoft Office document imaging tools were used. To account for the commonly encountered problem of skew being introduced, a method to detect and correct the skew introduced in the scanned documents was developed and integrated with the tool. The OCR tool was customized to build keywords and key phrases corpus for every document. Findings The developed tool was evaluated using a 100 document corpus to test the various properties of OCR. The tool had above 99 per cent word read accuracy for text only image documents. The customization of the OCR was tested with samples of Microfiches, sample of Journal pages from back volumes and samples from newspaper clips and the results are discussed in the summary. The tool was found to be useful for text extraction and processing. Social implications The scanned documents are converted to keywords and key phrases corpus. The tool could be used to build metadata for scanned documents without manual intervention. Originality/value The tool is used to convert unstructured data (in the form of image documents) to structured data (the document is converted into keywords, and key phrases database). In addition, the image document is converted to editable and searchable document.

Abstract:
The paper investigates individual psychological features of self-regulation in people with personality disorders and accentuated personality traits. Our goal is to specify the data on regulation disorders taking into account the nature of committed offences so as to substantiate the validity of expert conclusions, promote individualization in punishment, and build models for secondary psychological prevention. We survey 134 men including 94 individuals with personality disorders, 20 individuals with accentuated personality traits and 20 individuals without mental disorders. We use a set of methodological tools to assess the extent of self-control deficiency); the set includes J. Kagan’s Matching Familiar Figures Test, situation analysis, a new questionnaire for tolerance toward uncertainty, J. Stroop’s Color and Word Test, behavioral self-regulation style. We carry out statistical processing of the data with the help of descriptive statistics method, frequency analysis, an independent samples t-test, the Mann–Whitney U-test, and the Kruskal-Wallis test to compare three independent samples. We have found out that regulation disorders in people with personality disorders who committed violent crimes are associated with the ability to predict the consequences adequately and find socially acceptable ways to resolve problem situations. We show that when an individual has to deal with information shortage, contradictory information, perceptual interference or increased emotional intensity of the situation the probability of disorders in their conscious regulation of behavior increases significantly. Accordingly, to address the tasks of penal science and practice, we consider it expedient to use the indicators identified in the course of our present research, because they can be not only predictors of behavioral dysregulation and aggressive responses, but also targets for psychological therapy. Key words: self-regulation, personality disorders, accentuated personality traits, situation analysis, type of offence.
