Abstract:
This report has been completed through international collaboration under the International Energy Agency (IEA) Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) Programme - Task 63 on Solar Neighborhood Planning. Specifically, the work contributes to Task 63 Subtask B - Economic Strategies and Stakeholder Engagement by identifying and discussing the potential usage of different urban surfaces in harvesting solar energy. Special focus has been placed on the identification of conflicts and synergies among solutions, and their contribution to the major climate resilience and sustainability objectives defined by so

Our mission assumes a systematic approach to applying solar technologies and designs to whole buildings and industrial and agricultural process heat. Based on this mission, the SHC TCP will carry out and coordinate international R&D work and will continue to cooperate with other IEA Implementing Agreements and the solar industry to expand the solar market. Our activities support market expansion by providing reliable information on solar system performance, design guidelines and tools, data and market approaches, and developing and integrating advanced solar energy technologies and design

In many parts of the world, the centralized grid provides energy to the population only to a limited extent. The electrification for sub-Saharan Africa countries is the lowest in the world, representing half of the world's population withoutelectricity. However, during the last years there has been an increased attention to rural areas in the Global South beyond the centralised grid, especially with respect to improved possibilities of solar power systems. The transition from one dominant form of energy provision to various alternatives includes different dimensions and depends on specific soc

To enable the energy transition in Switzerland, SCCER BIOSWEET (i) assessed the current and future potentials of primary energy from the different woody biomass types in Switzerland; (ii) developed and implemented innovative technologies for biomass utilization in the fields of heat, electricity and fuels; and (iii) investigated the future role of woody biomass in the energy system. SCCER BIOSWEET started with the vision of 100 petajoules (PJ) of primary energy consumption per year from bioenergy by 2050, which means a doubling of the current energy consumption from biomass. This work performed measurement and verification of installed, operational solar wall systems at Fort Drum, NY, and Forbes Field, Air National Guard, Topeka, KS. Actual annual savings were compared estimated savings generated by a solar wall modeling tool (RETScreen). A comparison with the RETScreen modeling tool shows that the measured actively heated air provided by the solar wall provides 57% more heat than the RETScreen tool predicted, after accounting for boiler efficiency. The solar wall at Fort Drum yields a net savings of $851/yr, for a simple payback of 146 years and a SIR of 0.16. RE

We are in the midst of the fastest, deepest, most transformative disruption of the energy sector in over a century. Stellar Energy systems will operate like stars, gathering a critical mass of resources and then igniting to produce energy indefinitely without further inputs. This groundbreaking report from RethinkX explains how solar power, wind power, and battery energy storage can deliver a superabundance of clean energy at near-zero marginal cost to create Stellar Energy systems that will fundamentally transform our world and help build a future where all people in all societies everywhere

We are on the cusp of the fastest, deepest, most profound disruption of the energy sector in over a century. Like most disruptions, this one is being driven by the convergence of several key technologies whose costs and capabilities have been improving on consistent and predictable trajectories – namely, solar photovoltaic power, wind power, and lithium-ion battery energy storage. Our analysis shows that 100% clean electricity from the combination of solar, wind, and batteries (SWB) is both physically possible and economically affordable across the entire continental United States as well as t

How do we build economic systems that recognise and work within the biophysical limits of our finite planet while simultaneously reducing poverty and inequality? This has become a defining question of our time, and the global transition to clean energy is increasingly considered an important vehicle via which we might address this ‘trilemma.’ Concerns about environmental sustainability and fossil fuel insecurity have encouraged countries around the world to transition to low-carbon energy supplies derived from clean renewables such as solar, hydro, bioenergy, geothermal and wind.
