Abstract:
The latest years are marked by the considerably aggravated demographic situation in Ukraine, which enhanced the competition among higher education establishments (HEEs) on the education services market and intensified the vocational guidance work in HEEs among student youth. The vocational guidance work, gaining special significance as early as in times of Ukraine’s transition to the market economy, still remains an important element of the government policy. It helps identify and purposefully develop talents and inclinations of a person, his/her professional and cognitive interests regarding the choice of future specialty, effectively increase his/her social and professional mobility and form his/her needs and willingness to labor activities. The authors justify the need for essential change in the higher education system of Ukraine. The social background for the professional choice, the dynamics of value orientations and values of student youth, specifics of the vocational guidance work in HEEs are studied by case of the National Academy of Statistics, Accounting and Audit (NASAA). Details of the system for vocational guidance work in NASAA are given, with formulating its core objectives and outlining the phases and areas of implementation. Results of a survey lead the authors to the conclusion about a gap between the needs of the labor market in highly skilled specialists, on the one hand, and the professional orientations and choices of student youth, on the other, resulting in a higher probability of casual entrances of applicants to HEEs. This gives birth to moral and psychological collisions of the personal nature, with the subsequent dissatisfaction with the chosen profession, staff turnover and migration of young specialists across economic sectors. It is revealed that full-fledged and comprehensive information and education efforts and qualified vocational guidance services on professional choice rendered to student youth can be most effective given the concerted actions of HEEs, schools and other social institutes. The authors’ studies allow them to identify problematic points in the vocational guidance work and outline the main areas of further improvements in the vocational guidance.

Abstract:
Vocational guidance in the Soviet system of education was considered a high priority of institutional socialisation. Industrialisation and technical modernisation dictated and regulated changes in perception of labour training and vocational guidance and encouraged to promote economically required and favourable occupations in the public discourse. However, in reality, the attempt of the educational staff to direct pupils to vocational education facilities did not correspond with the expectations of parents and children regarding their future. Moreover, children’s choices for future occupations were far from accompanying socialist slogans. In order to reveal this complex phenomenon, the article analyses the systematic, theoretical, and practical implementations of vocational guidance in the educational environment of Soviet Lithuania. The research revealed that educational framework for vocational guidance in Soviet Lithuania was receptive to the changes introduced by educational reforms throughout the Soviet nion. It reflected the government’s economic, technical, and agricultural modernization as well as the increasing necessity of specialized manpower and blue–collar workers. The 1970s was the turning point for vocational guidance infrastructure in Lithuania – a huge institutional development took place. Moreover, state administration sectors responsible for economic welfare imposed their considerable influence on the educational system. The modernisation of the educational discourse in Soviet Lithuania in the 1960s–1970s changed the perception of vocational training in the educational system. Labour ducation and vocational guidance became the focus of the Soviet educational discourse and offered a child–oriented vocational guidance framework, which was based on the knowledge of the child, motivational, and interest related education. However, this sophisticated approach was used to manipulate children and to ensure adequate supply of professionals for various key industries, alongside with the implementation of ideological tasks. The actual practices of labour education and professional choices among children were influenced by family values, teachers’ approaches, and different socioeconomic conditions that surrounded children in the rural and urban environment. Due to the agricultural structure and collectivization in rural areas, children there were used to physical work. Therefore, their labour education included helping collective farm workers and their own parents during harvest periods. Meanwhile faster modernisation of urban educational spaces and more advanced technical possibilities determined that labour education of children from urban areas was less intense in terms of physical work. The development of the infrastructure of post-school activities in urban areas allowed children to get acquainted with different professions and activities. These circumstances were crucial when making a decision for future professional choices. Children’s future occupational decisions were also influenced by the concept of “prestige profession” (lawyer, doctor, engineer etc.) that circulated among parents and children during our research period. This concept was exceptionally strong among cultural and political elite families; therefore, their children most frequently went for higher education. Meanwhile childhood in rural areas based on physical work, determined the urge to escape these difficult conditions. nsequently, these pupils were considering non–manual occupations. However, their strong urge to help the family sometimes left them in an ambivalent position and their work choices were made in favour of the family. These contradictory practises led to the emergence of “vocational misguidance” when only unapt, ill-behaved or ideologically upstart pupils were guided to vocational training institutions.

Abstract:
The author of the article has presented the results of the analysis of national approaches to the implementation of vocational guidance work among young people for the selection of police specialties. On this basis the author has singled out problematic issues in each of the vocational guidance areas (professional information, professional counseling, professional selection and professional adaptation). A number of general problems of vocational guidance among young people has been considered. The author has emphasized the general and special shortcomings in the organization and conduction of vocational guidance in regard to professional choice in general and professions related to the service in the units of the National Police of Ukraine, in particular. The general shortcomings include both the peculiarities of the organization of vocational guidance (lack of a unified system of vocational guidance work, insufficient level of interaction between the participants in the process of vocational guidance, lack of an individual, differentiated and phased approach to each individual while implementing professional choice, etc.) and its content component (low level of awareness of children, parents and teachers regarding the existing social professional inquiry; improper attention to the motivational component of the profession selection, etc.). The special shortcomings include the following: lack of awareness among young people about the peculiarities of different specialties (an investigator, an employee of operational units, a district police officer, etc.); lack of opportunity to try themselves in different types of law enforcement activities within the framework of interaction, for example, between district police station, educational institution, school and parents; insufficient use of media opportunities to adequately cover various aspects of police activities. The author has emphasized the necessity of creating an effective strategy of vocational guidance and qualitative selection procedure, referral and enrollment of young people to higher educational institutions with specific learning conditions.

Abstract:
Global changes taking place in all spheres of life have influenced the education sector. The school must prepare a graduate who can successfully socialize and be in demand and competitive. That is why the problem of professional self-determination and choice of a future profession by students is especially acute. According to the authors of the article, one of the most important conditions for the successful professional self-determination of students is the vocational guidance environment of the school. The authors give a definition of the concept of "vocational guidance environment". They describe the stages of its formation, and also present the experience of creating a career guidance environment in one of the schools in the Moscow region. The material of the authors can be useful for creating a career guidance environment, early career guidance and pre-professional training of students in educational organizations, which will ensure the emergence of a "new type" graduate - a young person who has the ability to consciously choose a professional path in unity with professional mobility.

Abstract:
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a multi-faceted and complex injury with unique incidence, prevalence, and consequence that affects health, independent function, and participation in society. Currently, limited long-term funding sources are available to support the vocational rehabilitation needs of individuals with TBI. To improve our understanding of the diverse needs of this population, eight vocational organizations throughout Florida received community capacity-building grants awards. Through these grants, 81 individuals with TBI received vocational guidance counseling and disability adjustment services for a period of one year. Participants completed a project survey upon entry into and exit from the program, with a completion response rate of 48%. Results indicate that the participants’ internal thoughts and beliefs about ability to work showed significant improvement after receipt of customized services. Survey findings suggest that the individuals who received tailored vocational guidance and disability adjustment services showed better adjustment to return to work.

Abstract:
Work placements for students bridge the gap between school and the world of work and the vocational training system. They are part of a comprehensive set of measures for vocational orientation and are organized by a multi-professional team of different actors, such as teachers and other educational staff involved in the process of secondary education and professionals working in institutions that accompany the transition. Though little research has been done on inclusive vocational guidance, it can be assumed that complexity of this process will increase with new cooperations. This article presents results from multi-professional group discussions with participants from various institutions and derives competences for inclusive vocational guidance in schools. The results point to the necessity of identifying fields of action, investigating cooperation between actors within the school system and, above all, determining knowledge references that arise subject-specifically for inclusive vocational orientation from the needs of students with special educational needs.

We also explain how Vocational Guidance works as well as the training methods used in the guidance framework, with reference to the school curriculum, vocational choice and to the activities of academic transition and from here to the individuals working life with special reference to professional placement. This Vocational Guidance training focus comes from the need to join the worlds of Education and work which, in todays world, are basically rather uncoordinated.

Abstract The present work examines how a group of Italian parents and their adolescent children view work, study, and leisure in order to check for possible relations between the ideas of parents and their children’s. A total of 160 adolescents and 160 parents were recruited. Semi-structured interviews that assessed the participants’ concepts about work, study, and leisure were conducted. The analyses carried out demonstrate that there are connections between the parents’ and adolescents’ perceptions regarding work, study, and leisure. The results confirm the importance of considering both constructs and the parents’ perspectives on them, and of involving parents in their children vocational guidance actions.

The article analyzes the features of the introduction of innovative forms of career guidance work with student youth. It is determined that the problem of preparing high school students to choose their own professional future is important in today's world. It is noted that the success of a young person's life largely depends on how correct was the choice of profession, institution of higher education, profession. At the same time, the chosen profession should correspond to the personal qualities and capabilities of a young person, be interesting, and create opportunities for competitiveness in the labor market. On the other hand, it can become a form of practice for students enrolled in educational programs of socionomic specialties of the first and second levels of higher education (social work, practical psychology, social pedagogy, etc.). The activity of the vocational guidance hub "PROFIT QUEST" on the basis of SHEI "Priazovsky State Technical University" is considered. The purpose and tasks of the career guidance hub are analyzed. The activity of the Vocational Guidance Hub "PROFit quest" is aimed at vocational guidance work with high school students, especially from families in SJO, on professional information, professional diagnostics, professional counseling and professional activation in the form of games and training. Among the technologies used in the activities of the career guidance hub, the following are considered: use in the role; information and educational technologies; technologies for awareness of one's own professional abilities; technologies for involving specialists of interested organizations in the project and others. Abstract:
The paper analyses the application of virtual reality technologies to career guidance of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). An overview of studies using virtual reality technologies conducted with children and adolescents with ASD, including diagnosis and teaching of schoolchildren with autism spectrum disorders, is made. The authors follow “The Theory of Central Coherence” by U. Frith, realizing symptoms of autism spectrum disorders not as disorders but as peculiar features and a special cognitive style. The study describes the features of vocational guidance of ASD individuals on the basis of the sources about the difficulties of people with ASD in the transition from school to secondary and higher education. The authors’ project of a complex vocational guidance using virtual reality technology for students with ASD introducing “a city-farmer” profession is represented. The tripartite structure of the vocational guidance complex is showed, the need for interaction of specialists with the parents of a child with ASD, as well as identification of “savant skills” at the first stage of career guidance work was emphasized. Examples of virtual spaces developed by one of the authors are given, with which people with ASD interact by the determination their possible professional trajectory. The tasks and responses of users in the vocational guidance complex for schoolchildren are described. A conclusion about the possibility of expanding the list of professions in the vocational guidance simulator for children with ASD is made.

Abstract:
The Australian construction industry is highly reliant on the local labour force and those employed within it undertake a wide variety of roles ranging from labouring to management. In the past 20 years construction has seen record levels of employment; however lack of skilled labour is becoming problematic. Australia, like most industrialised countries, has an ageing population due to falling birth rates, increased life expectancy and the ageing of the large post-World War II ‘baby boom’ generation. Deciding on a career is one of the most fundamental activities in a young person’s life and the role of the school career counsellor is crucial in this process. This research examined secondary school career counsellor’s knowledge of construction, their perceptions of it as a good career choice and how often they directed male and female students to investigate construction as a career. Comparisons using paired t-tests found career counsellors perceived construction to be a better career option for young men, and directed them more frequently than women, to explore construction careers. The findings also indicate that an educative model, where students and counsellors gain firsthand knowledge from people working in the industry, may counter negative gender stereotypes associated with this area of work and encourage more young people, both male and female, to consider a career in the construction industry.

Abstract:
The subject of the work was to improve the methodology of the career guidance center of the URFU (Yekaterinburg, Russia) by overcoming contradictions in the recommendations on the profiles of activities for people with different types of personality. An adequate recommendation is based on combination of the generalized opinion of experts (12 career centers at the US universities, authors of 8 books) on the profile of the applicant's activity (manager, agent, etc.) and 24 fields of activity. Due to this solution it was possible to evaluate each sphere for the applicant by saturation with suitable profiles. And it extremely increases his chances to realize the most significant project by the age of 39. The methodology was based on the typological concept of the personality structure from the personality type, the character type and the dominant type of intelligence. This concept in contrast with the five-factor model of the personality structure demonstrates a significant result of the work. About 70% of graduates of the Russian universities do not work on the received specialty. For 7 years the presented methodology of the vocational guidance center of the URFU (Yekaterinburg, Russia) was improved to the level at which these "lost" 70% were detected at the testing stage before entering the university. The typological model defines a large field of variations PT+CT+TI in which talent can be multidirectional. This makes the career center mission not always feasible. The center should have the ability to design a personalized project. In career centers at the US universities the applicant is recommended a variety of options where he can be useful. Thus, they shift the responsibility of the problem of choice to applicants’ shoulders. The proposed methodology allows forming a project in which he will be most effective and competitive.

Abstract:
The article highlights the relevance of carrying out work on career guidance among the population and the importance of creating an effective system of vocational guidance. The brief history of the background of the birth and formation of vocational guidance in Ukraine and career development in Canada as well as the construction of a state system of professional orientation in these countries at the present stage are presented in this thesis. The concept of professional orientation as a system of interrelated economic, social, medical, psychological and pedagogical measures directed on activation of the process of professional self-determination of the person is presented. The views of modern scholars on the problems of professional orientation in Ukraine are analyzed. The activity of the government and public organizations in the field of career guidance of the population is explored. It is concluded that in Ukraine today there is no general vision of the development of professional orientation and clear quality criteria and a system of measurement of the effectiveness of providing vocational guidance services, and state bodies provide unsystematic services for professional orientation to different segments of the population. The essence of the concept of Career Development is the lifelong process of managing learning, work, leisure, and transitions in order to move towards a personally determined and evolving preferred future. It has been found that in Canada one notices a convergence of four sectors of society: government, education, organized labor and the non-profit-making sector. It has been established that a number of state, non-governmental and international organizations and projects have been created and effectively functioning in Canada’s Career Development, and their effective interaction has allowed to strengthen and develop a career development and career guidance. The role of career tutors using the latest career development strategies adapted to the diverse population of Canada is highlighted. A number of differences in the vocational guidance of Ukraine and Canada are revealed, which is connected with different historical, social and economic development of the countries.

Abstract:
The article discusses vocational guidance work and its importance in the rapidly developing world for vocational guidance of young people. In the classical sense, this work is aimed at identifying a way of thinking that has already been formed. The article considers methods for determining types of thinking and argues for the possibility of developing a technical way of thinking. There are proposals for developing “engineering” thinking in the framework of work with students in further education programs and a discussion on the age at which the development of technical thinking should begin. There is a detailed description of the author’s experience in the developing engineering thinking in grade 5 schoolchildren within the framework of the network educational project “Engineering”. Assessment data at various points in the project implementation are analyzed. The problems that arose during the implementation of the project are described, their root cause is analyzed, and methods of resolution are proposed. The conclusions show that the way of thinking is not an inherent genetic constant; the way of thinking is formed by the social environment of a person, by the tasks he is solving. It shows the possibility of developing students’ “engineering” thinking through classes in technical programs.

Abstract:
This article compares how vocational guidance is provided in schools in Britain and three Continental European countries. The comparisons are based on classroom observations and interviews with teachers in some two dozen secondary schools in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, together with a similar number in Britain. Careers guidance on the Continent begins earlier, is taught by careers specialists in separate lessons devoted to the topic, and is geared specifically to providing youngsters with detailed information on the content and requirements for particular types of work. The lack of focus on occupationally-specific information in ‘careers guidance’ in British schools, particularly in the now-widespread ‘Personal and Social Education’ (PSE) courses, leaves many British youngsters at a distinct disadvantage in making a successful transition to the world of work. The article suggests a number of relatively simple measures which could significantly improve careers education in British schools.
