The problem of the content and nature of the use of a worker's free time is of scientific and practical interest in the unity and struggle of opposites both with working time, existing in capitalist society outside the real “temporal freedom” of a person of labor, and with leisure time, included in the structure of free time. The actualization of these problems is determined by the increasing importance of creative work, which contributes to the formation of a new society of professionals - potentially “another subject of the production process”, characterized not by im

The aims of this paper are to construct a theoretical model treating sleep as an investment in health capital and analyze how sleep affects a worker's health capital and social welfare. We consider time constraints because sleep only requires time, and we assumed that consumption also requires time. By doing so, we reveal how workers decide their hours slept. Of particular importance is the result that workers store their health capital by sleeping more than the optimal value at a young age, which leads to increased output. Moreover, we identify a complementary relationship between consumption

One way to collect information about individual productivity is to observe how total output changes when the composition of the team changes. While some employers may explicitly shift workers from team to team for exactly this reason, the most common reasons for changes in team composition are at least partly voluntary: vacation time and sick days. With the digitalization of companies and work, the business environment and working conditions have changed. Namely, the progress in ICT changed the ways of work organization and influenced the new work model. Teleworking and mobile work provided workers with the opportunity to adapt their time and place of work to their needs. Accordingly, digitization enables more complex organizational forms and affects an increasing number of tasks. The main goal of our study was to investigate the implications of work flexibility on the worker's health. In other words, are there any risks that this new wo

The wage is endogenized using Nash bargaining and the number of vacancies is tied down by a free entry condition. This allows me to conduct a counterfactual analysis of the optimal unemployment insurance (UI) level. The provision of UI is motivated by the worker's inability to perfectly insure against income shocks, but at the same time UI introduces distortions into workers' search intensity decisions and firm vacancy creation. I find that equilibrium effects are important. When the UI level is r

We present a novel theory of the employment relationship. A manager can invest in attention technology to recognize good worker performance. The technology may break and is costly to replace. We show that as time passes without recognition, the worker's belief about the manager's technology worsens and his effort declines. The manager responds by investing, but this investment is insufficient to stop the decline in effort and eventually becomes decreasing. The relationship therefore continues deteriorating, and a return to high performance becomes increasingly unlikely. These deteriorating dyn

Current approaches to such mobile crowd-tasking are very decentralized: a crowd-tasking platform usually provides each worker a set of available tasks close to the worker's current location; each worker then independently chooses which tasks she wants to accept and perform. In contrast, we propose TRACCS, a more coordinated task assignment approach, where the crowd-tasking platform assigns a sequence of tasks to ea
