Workers? compensation insurance (WCI) is the highest cost to an employer following accidents. It is needed to predict the benefits value without taking into account the past records of an employee, which is not readily available in most cases. Employment and workers? compensation data were acquired from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Academy of Social Insurance, respectively. The statistical model was developed with SAS using multiple regression and the process was simplified using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The model predicted future values of workers compensation given

Abstract The greenhouse industry is a multibillion-dollar sector of U.S. agricultural production. Greenhouse workers often experience hazardous working conditions placing them at risk for injury. These injuries include but are not limited to mechanized operations causing machine and tool related injuries, on-site shipping and loading practices placing excessive strain on a worker’s body, working from height leading to slips and falls, and a strenuous indoor working environment exceeding workers’ physical capabilities. This project focused on identifying greenhouse worker injury trends using wo

Blocked by novel judicial defenses that deprived them of the common law remedies that the general public enjoyed, workers agitated for decades until growing political pressure led employers and the courts to accept worker’s compensation in America at the beginning of the twentieth century. Two remarkable side-effects of the Worker’s Compensation Acts were the ignition of the safety movement and the reformulation of tort law in regards to technological harms. These changes came just as some of the dangers formerly reserved for industrial workers began to be visited upon consumers in the form of

The constitutions of many States set out the obligation of the government to guarantee a well-functioning and reliable system of protection against industrial injuries. Whether the government provides workers ' compensation insurance directly, or when it is delegated to a third party (special authorities or insurance companies), the government is still responsible for the operation of the system. The latter is of particular importance, since the settlement of claims for workers ' compensation insurance is of a long-term nature. An effective system of protection against industrial injuries and

Abstract:
Abstract During 1999, the Hampton/NASA Steam Plant achieved a distinguishing safety milestone by completing the year without a single OSHA recordable accident. At the end of the year, the plant had also worked 422 consecutive days without a lost time accident. The Steam Plant Manager, John Austin, called this significant milestone the “Ace Safety Year”. Over the decade Worker’s Compensation and medical expenditures decreased form $153,000 to just $234 by 1995. The savings in insurances premiums is now equal to the amounts spent annually on all safety equipment, employee physicals and uniforms.
