Hearing loss has a negative effect on the daily life of 10-15% of the world’s population. One of the most common ways to treat a hearing loss is to fit hearing aids which increases audibility by providing amplification. Hearing aids thus improve speech reception in quiet, but listening in noise is nevertheless often difficult and stressful. Individual differences in cognitive capacity have been shown to be linked to differences in speech recognition performance in noise. An individual’s cognitive capacity is limited and is gradually consumed by increasing demands when listening in noise. Thus,

Possible reasons include: differences in auditory perception of the speech signal, differences in coding the signal at the phonological, lexical and/or sentence levels, interaction between processing at different levels, differences in rehearsal capacity for speech, and/or, differences in generating and/or evaluating alternative interpretations to ambiguous signals. With regard to the matter of how processing at different levels might inter

Abstract:

Abstract:
Humans are capable of remembering information in an active, easily accessible form. However, this is a limited capacity system, which temporarily maintains and stores information, and supports human thought processes by providing an interface between perception, long-term memory, and action. Using the task-span procedure developed by Logan (2004), the current thesis aimed to examine some of the most salient features of working memory. Specifically how processing and storage interact with working memory, the influence of organisational factors on working memory and the relationship between task

Abstract:
There is a well-documented bidirectional relationship between pain and cognitive dysfunction, especially working memory. Despite this extensive body of research, the pain–working memory relationship is poorly understood. Pain catastrophizing – exaggerated negative cognitive and emotional responses towards pain – may contribute to working memory deficits by occupying finite, shared cognitive resources, but this has yet to be investigated. The present study sought to clarify the role of pain catastrophizing (assessed as both a trait-level disposition and state-level process) in working memory dy

Abstract:
ADHD is a highly prevalent disorder in both children and adults that involves significant impairment throughout the lifespan, and yet the core cognitive deficits of the disorder are not well understood. Accumulating evidence of dysfunctioning dopamine systems motivated the theory that delay-of-reinforcement gradients are altered in ADHD in such a way that reinforcers must arrive earlier in time following a response for an association between the two to be learned. The current work is motivated by the conjecture that dopamine dysfunction has consequences for the maximum timescales over which

Abstract:
L’indice spatial utilis
