Abstract:
This study examines the relationship between working capital management (WCM) and firm performance during and after the financial crisis of 2007-2008 in Nigeria. During the crisis, lending conditions were deeply affected, and financing operations became challenging for firms. Although research findings on the causes and effects of the crisis on the economy are known, what remains unknown is whether the financial crisis had a significant impact on WCM performance. This knowledge is essential for developing resilience to withstand a possible crisis in the future because vulnerability remains high as a result of the deepened integration of many economies. Thus, this study addresses this issue using a sample of 675 firm-year observations from listed firms on the Nigerian stock exchange for the period from 2007 to 2015. The differences between the two periods, the crisis period and then after the crisis period, is operationalised through two analyses. First, OLS regression analysis was conducted to determine the explanatory powers of WCM for the two periods via their R2s. Second, a test of difference using the Cramer Z-statistic for the two periods was conducted. The findings indicate that WCM variables have more explanatory power (R2) in the period after the crisis than during the crisis. Also, the results revealed that the Z-scores are significant, implying that a significant difference existed between the two periods. This means that WCM was affected during the financial crisis and led to low profitability, whereas, during the after-crisis period, WCM associates with higher profitability.

Abstract:
Working-memory tasks often lead to elevated delay-period discharge rates in cortical neurons. When this altered neuronal discharge rate, called delay activity, shows stimulus specificity, it is a good candidate for a neuronal mechanism of working memory. If the delay activity is indeed the carrier of memory, then experimental manipulation during the delay period that disrupts delay activity should also disrupt behavioral performance. We tested this hypothesis in two macaque monkeys with a delayed matching-to-sample task (delay time: 8 or 10 s) in which only two visual images were used. In each trial, one of the images was randomly chosen as the sample. In control trials (without disruptive stimulation), the monkeys performed at the level of 74.3% correct recognition. Three electrical stimulation levels (mild: a 0.25-s train of electrical pulses; medium: 1-s train; strong: 4 s), delivered to the hippocampal formation or to the orbito-frontal and inferotemporal cortices during delay period, decreased the performance to 71.4, 66.8, and 58.0% respectively (all are significantly less than control performance, P < 0.05 for mild stimulation and P < 0.0001 for other stimulation levels). Three hundred and thirty-four cells were recorded from inferotemporal (211 cells) and prefrontal (123 cells) cortices. Significant ( P < 0.05) stimulus-specific delay activity was found in about one-third of recorded cells. For these cells in control trials, the mean difference in delay-period spike rates between preferred and nonpreferred images was 26%. The electrical stimulation reduced this difference to 20% (not a statistically significant reduction) in trials with mild stimulation, to 14% ( P < 0.05) with medium stimulation, and just to 4% ( P < 0.0005) with strong stimulation. These results, that increasing electrical stimulation reduced neuronal selectivity and at the same time reduced behavioral performance, directly support the hypothesis that delay activity is the carrier of memory through the delay period.

Abstract:
Working memory span assesses the maximum number of items that can be remembered in the face of concurrent processing. Models of working memory differ on several dimensions, yet many rely exclusively on this span procedure for their evidence. Three experiments consider an alternative paradigm that attempts to capture the endurance limits for remembering a fixed number of items during concurrent processing. Eight-year-old children performed two versions of this working memory period measure—operation period and reading period. Period scores show healthy test–retest reliability and external validity for scholastic attainment, comparing well with span scores in these respects. In addition, period is highly correlated with span and shows similar effects of varying the order in which stimuli are presented. We conclude that the durability of representations is an important factor in both span and period.

Abstract:
In this article, the author proposes to present her therapeutic work with adolescents during the Covid-19 period carried out remotely using Skype. Based on the theories that allow us to understand adolescence as a process of growth and transformation, it was possible to acknowledge the changes that took place in three adolescents in different stages of a relational therapy. The imposition of working virtually created a new way of practising psychotherapy, where the notions of transference and countertransference were essential for the understanding of the intra- and inter-psychic processes that take place in the internal world. Skype was the tool that made it possible to continue the relational presence for working with adolescents.

Abstract:
The aim was to study the influence of personal factors on the index of individual biological aging in men and women of mature age who continue to work and those who no longer work. The participants were 347 people, including 212 women aged 56-65 years and 111 men aged 61-69 years. Measurement of biological age, relative biological aging index, assessment of subjective psychological age, expected retirement age, life path questionnaire. Biological age was estimated using a formula that included indicators of metabolism, the work of the cardiovascular, respiratory, and balance organ systems; a psychological health questionnaire was also used. The lowest index of relative biological aging was found in people who continued to work part-time. There is a relationship between the index of relative biological aging and one's characteristics. For men, the index was lowered by the following factors: changing the place of residence, continuing to work after retirement, a high indicator of the expected retirement age, and increased by living in a large city. For women, the index was lowered by the following factors: changing the place of residence, continuing to work after retirement, a high indicator of the expected retirement age, higher education, creative hobbies, studying after retirement.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to determine the differences effect of working capital efficiency on financial performance during periods of crisis. The measurement is made during the crisis compared to the entire period of observation by using cash conversion cycle (CCC) and working capital policy (both investment policy and financing policy) on the profitability (by return on assets) and market value (by Tobin’s Q). Using all annual financial data of 104 manufacturing firms listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) over the period 2005-2013. These periods include the global financial crisis. The panel data set was developed for nine years, which produced 936 firms-years observations. This study uses multivariate regression models with hierarchical regression analysis approach. This approach uses the global financial crisis period as a dummy variable. The results showed that there were differences in the effect of the cash conversion cycle (and its components) and working capital policy on profitability during the crisis period compared to the whole period. In contrast, no differences effect the cash conversion cycle (and its components) and working capital policy on the value of the company in the crisis period compared to the whole period. The manufacturing industries do not apply the efficiency in the management of working capital. The global financial crisis tends the companies to change their working capital policy more efficiently. The researcher can extend this study by doing a qualitative research how to chief financial officers invest and finance day-by-day operation.

Abstract:
Despite intensive study, the data regarding functional role of specific brain regions in the working memory processes still remain controversial. The study was aimed to determine the activation of cerebral cortex regions at different stages of the working memory task (information encoding, maintenance and retrieval). Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with the modified Sternberg task was applied to 19 healthy volunteers. The objective of the task was to memorize and retain in memory the sequence of 7 letters with the subsequent comparison of one letter with the sequence. Activation was analyzed during three periods of the task compared to the rest period, as well as temporal dynamics of changes in BOLD signal intensity in three regions: left dorsolateral prefrontal, left posterior parietal and left occipital cortex. According to the results, significant activation of the regions in prefrontal and posterior parietal cortex was observed during all periods of the task (p < 0.05), but there were changes in its localization and lateralization. The activation pattern during the maintenance period corresponded to the fronto-parietal control network components. According to the analysis of temporal dynamics of changes in BOLD signal intensity, the most prominent activation of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and parietal cortex was observed in the end of the encoding period, during the maintenance period and in the beginning of the retrieval period, which confirmed the role of those areas in the working memory processes. The maximum of occipital cortex activation was observed during encoding period. The study confirmed the functional role of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and posterior parietal cortex in the working memory mechanisms during all stages of the Sternberg task.

Abstract:
Efficient management of working capital is essential for firms to avoid overinvesting in short-term assets for maximum profitability while guaranteeing much-needed liquidity to run their operations. This study examines the impact of working capital management on firms’ profitability in the automotive industry in Europe before and during the COVID-19 pandemic period. The automotive industry is vital to the European economy, being a major component of the total industrial value added to the GDP of the continent. Existing research on this topic is inconclusive, and there is a gap in the literature exploring the working capital management effect on firm performance in periods of crisis. Unlike most research, this study focuses on a single industry to better capture the impact of working capital management on firm profitability. It also adds the COVID-19 dimension to stress the importance of proper working capital management, especially in periods of economic distress. The results show that the receivables collection period, inventory conversion period, accounts payable period, and cash conversion cycle have a significant negative impact on ROA for both the pre-pandemic and pandemic period, suggesting that managers must be prudent regarding their firm’s credit policy by not being overly generous with credit terms and making every effort to promptly collect their receivables. Moreover, excessive levels of inventory impair profitability by locking up valuable cash reserves, which are vital, especially in periods of crisis. Though seemingly counterintuitive, being profitable also means not postponing payables settlement unnecessarily.

Abstract:
My experience in working with groups in therapy shows that the individual is inevitably bound to the social. Based on a group of borderline and psychotic patients in a psychiatric hospital, I would like to demonstrate the effects of social trauma (terrorist attack) on the internal life of the group, as well as the different types of transference that we observe in it. The group works with the ‘Photolanguage’ method. Patients have the possibility to put words on their affects, speak about memories and sensations through images that mobilize feelings in a playful manner. The capacity of the group to contain and to transform is precious and promotes the subjective appropriation of difficult affects. Group therapy is important in this type of situation as the diffusion of transference reinforces the capacity of contention in the group. The synergy between the group dynamics and the mediating object offers a field of work on the primitive experiences of each patient and creates a transformation of internal images and representations as the person works on the ‘first psychic material’, which is not elaborated.

More than 5 thousand industrial facilities of various types of activity operate on the territory of the Perm Territory. In the region, as well as in the Russian Federation as a whole, there is a progressive reduction in the number of labor reserves, for the period 2015-2021. the number of employees decreased by more than 200 thousand people. For the period from 2019 to 2021 there was no significant change in the state of workplaces of industrial enterprises in terms of the impact of acoustic factors on the worker's body. In general, there is a favorable trend towards a decrease in the proportion of jobs that do not meet hygienic standards for the physical factors of the working environment. The largest reduction in jobs that do not meet sanitary and hygienic requirements was recorded in terms of vibration parameters and light environment indicators. However, the share of workplaces that do not meet hygienic standards in terms of vibroacoustic factors remains higher, and in terms of microclimate, illumination and EMF, it is lower than the all-Russian indicators.

Abstract:
Working capital efficiency (WCE) and the institutional performance are factors becoming more important for institutional survive in choosing specific types of investments reflecting institutional activities, and even more influential than the effect of other issues such as country specific. Consequently the concept of WCE has received attention in the economic institution. The WCE concept, analyzes the relationship between the risk and the WCE concepts of going the institution insolvent, and therefore giving the institution an alert concerning its surviving in the related industry. The aims of this research is to obtain empirical indicators for predicting future institution insolvency using two proxies, the related economic financial metrics and Altman Z- score equation and to find the answer to the main question: '' is the issues related to the WCE may be judged through different economic financial metrics criteria, and using Altman Z- score equation to assess institution's financial distress? ''. Furthermore, the research tests the possible interactive effect of the relationship between WCE and institution finical distress. The research is focus practically on the institutions’ negligence of the economic financial analysis system implemented and the associated problems seriously. The purposeful sample of this research is an institution where the empirical study is applied to predict its economic financial distress, as expectations and predictions that this institution is unable to pay its liabilities in the near future are based upon the two proxies analysis used. The institution will be given a default name ''Al-Najat institution for Durable Products'' due to the sensitivity of the subject and not to defame it, is chosen as the stratified random sample method for studying its organizational behavior and performance in a practical way to bring the attention for its dysfunctional practice. The tools used for data collection is its final financial balance assigned by the institution for the period (2016-2018). Judgment is based on using the economic statistical analysis of the related economic financial metrics criteria, and using the Altman Z-score for the above mentioned period in examining the conditions of financial distress. The finding indicates that correlation between these two concepts exists; high and stable with other financial evidences represent the weakness of the institution for the given period. The analysis results shows that the Z-score was less than 1.81, (Z-score<1.8). In the liquidity ratio, the working capital is less than (one) indicating the low WCE in the related periods. The leverage ratios the total liabilities to total assets was increased from (39.43%) to (54.42%), indicating that assets is less than the liabilities. For the same period of time (2016-2018), the net profit margin to total sales became negative amount from (31-33.%) to (-75.01%). Inventory turnover is decreased by (0.97 times) to (0.78 times), the net profit to total assets percentage are negative and declining (-8.25%, -2.01%), and the book value ratio declined from (0.795 $) to (0.521 $) for the same period. In conclusion, the financial distress for the concerning institution is reasonably high, and the institutions' management should take a serious steps in order to survive in the industry within the economy. The researcher's conclusions based on the analysis is that employee's poor performance in taking decisions concerning the institution investments assigned, the lack of effective monitoring, and system evaluation performance inside the institution are elements contributing to the expected institution financial distress. This implies that the institution should stay out of risks to achieve economic benefits, also, investment in different sectors of the economy for keeping WCE workable and reducing total risks.

Abstract:
For aircraft in light multi-purpose aviation, piston engines are considered more efficient than gas turbine. The main technical requirement for such engines is to ensure trouble-free operation with the best possible fuel efficiency. At the same time, there are no requirements to emission of harmful substances in exhaust fumes except for the absence of visible smoke. When developing multi-purpose aircraft piston engines, it is important to ensure their multi-fuel operation, including opera-tion on TS-1 kerosene and diesel fuel. But the issues associated with setting engine control algo-rithms for operation on TS-1 kerosene are practically unexplored. In order to refine the control algo-rithms, the flow of the working process using such fuel was studied in this work. The effect of se-quencing the working process stages on the formation of the ignition delay period was shown. Based on the analysis of the factors affecting the ignition delay period, a map of the fuel injection advance angle values was generated. According to the experimental data, the activation energy of pre-flame reactions was adopted, which for kerosene TS-1 was 23–28 kJ/mol.

Abstract:
Work fatigue is still prevalent both in the world and Indonesia. International Labour Organization (ILO) data in 2016 shows that 32% of workers in the world experience work fatigue. Workers with more nutritional status and long working period feel headaches, fatigue all over the body, anxiety, legs in the shoulders and back pain during work. This condition is a symptom of work fatigue. This study included quantitative research with an analytical observational type of research. The research design used was cross sectional. The population of this study was all workers of line V production unit at PT X with a total sample of 34 people. The results showed that 26.47% of workers experienced mild work fatigue, 61.77% of workers experienced moderate work fatigue and 11.76% of workers experienced severe work fatigue. There is a significant relationship between working time and work fatigue with a p-value of 0.000 with a value of r = 0.752 which shows a strong correlation. In addition, there is also a significant relationship between nutritional status and work fatigue with a p-value of 0.009 with a value of r = 0.443 which shows a weak correlation. There is a relationship between the variables of working time and nutritional status with work fatigue. Companies are expected to rotate work by paying attention to the length of work and nutritional status of workers, so as to minimize the occurrence of work fatigue.

Abstract:
This study examined the impact of working capital management on the profitability of selected quoted agricultural and agro-allied companies (from 2012 to 2016) in Nigeria. Secondary data were extracted from eighteen quoted agricultural and agro-allied companies in Nigeria, four of which are agricultural companies out of the twenty-three in Nigeria. Descriptive research design and regression analysis were used. Working capital management was measured using the trade receivables collection period, trade payables, payment period, inventory turnover period, and cash conversion cycle, while profit before interest and tax measured profitability. This study found that working capital management and profitability are related to the agriculture and agro-allied sector in Nigeria. The result shows the trade receivables collection period and profitability are negatively related. The result also shows the trade payables payment period and profitability are positively related. The result shows that the inventory turnover period and profitability are related, the cash conversion cycle and profitability are positively related. The conclusion is that working capital management and profitability are related. If the management of firms takes efficient and effective decisions in managing the company’s working capital, all things being equal, the maximization of the firm’s profitability, value, and shareholders’ wealth can be guaranteed. Consequently, agency costs asserted by agency theory would be eliminated automatically. AcknowledgmentAll researchers and non-researchers that contributed to this paper are highly appreciated.

ABSTRACTObjective: Our research explored how mental health care providers continued to work during and after Hurricane Katrina. Methods: We interviewed 32 practitioners working in the New Orleans mental health care community during and after Hurricane Katrina. Through qualitative data analysis, we developed three temporal periods of disruption: the evacuation period, the surreal period, and the new normal period. We analyzed the actions informants took during these time periods. Results: The mental health care providers adapted to disruption by displaying two forms of flexibility: doing different tasks and doing tasks differently. How much and how they engaged in these forms of flexibility varied during the three periods. Conclusions: Informants' actions helped to create system resilience by adjusting the extent to which they were doing different tasks and the ways in which they were doing tasks differently during the three time periods. Their flexibility allowed them to provide basic care and adapt to changed circumstances. Their flexibility also contributed to maintaining a skilled workforce in the affected region.(Disaster Med Public Health Preparedness. 2012;6:311–315)

Abstract Objective To determine the awareness of working gained by female breast cancer survivors by continued to work. Methods Study design Qualitative descriptive study. Study participants: Three women who were affected by breast cancer in their thirties and continued to work. They have had no recurrent disease for at least five years since the incident. Date collection: From 2020 to 2022. After informed of the purpose, significance, and method of the study, the participants were interviewed using a narrative approach. The interview recorded with an IC recorder was used as a verbatim record, and the record was analyzed by the SCAT method to derive theoretical descriptions for each participant. Common theoretical descriptions among three participants were extracted in two separate periods: Period 1 <Working with treatment after diagnosis> and Period 2 <Working after completion of treatment>. Results The extracted common theoretical descriptions were “Physical and mental suffering” and “Support from important family and friends” for Period 1 and “Awe of life,” “Reaffirmation of the meaning of working,” and “Challenge to living their lives.” Discussion -Conclusion For Period 1, physical and mental suffering were intense, and support from their family and friends was important, although the three participants received different treatments. For Period 2, having gotten through cancer treatment put them in “awe of life” and allowed them to find new value in working, in other words, “reaffirmation of the meaning of working.” In addition, it also led to the “challenge to living their lives” and demonstrating that cancer survivors found new value in working.

We analyze the incentive and welfare consequences of job references in a large economy marked by moral hazard, limited liability, exogenous job separation, and structural unemployment. In the firm-optimal equilibrium, employers provide references whenever production is successful, and workers holding references are hired with certainty in the ensuing period. Compared to a setting without references: the bonus-contract offers are lower, yet the workers’ equilibrium effort is higher. Profits and welfare are higher, yet aggregate worker welfare is lower. Also, firms do not fully internalize the incentive effect of references and could typically increase profits and welfare by jointly raising bonuses. (JEL D82, D86, E24, J33, J41, L25, M51)

Abstract:
We construct cohort working life tables for Canadian men and women aged 50 and older and, for comparison, corresponding period tables. The tables are derived using annual single-age time series of participation rates for 1976-2006 from the master files of the Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey. The cohort calculations are based on stochastic projections of mortality coupled with alternative assumptions about future participation rates. Separate tables are provided for the years 1976, 1991, and 2006, thus spanning a period of substantial gains in life expectancy and strong upward trends in female participation. Life expectancies based on the cohort tables are greater than those based on the period tables, for both men and women, and that is reflected in increased retirement expectancies. For example, a male aged 50 in 1976 could have expected to live three years longer and to have almost four more years in retirement, based on the male cohort table under medium assumptions, as compared with the corresponding period table.

Abstract:
Academic tenacity, at its most fundamental level, concerns how hard and how smart an individual works over a long period. While this notion is meant for a broad range of academic contexts, it is particularly recognizable to those who make a lifelong commitment to learning a foreign language (FL). This study reports an initial attempt to conceptualise and measure foreign language tenacity (FLT). The Foreign Language Tenacity Scale (FLTS)—a self-report instrument—was developed and validated with a sample of 272 tertiary-level students studying English as a foreign language (EFL). FLT emerged as a multifaceted construct that positively correlated to foreign language enjoyment (FLE), mental well-being (MWB), language achievement and self-perceived language proficiency, and negatively correlated to foreign language classroom anxiety (FLCA). Tenacity appears to effectively represent the key characteristics of successful FL learners. A hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that FLT and FLCA were significant predictors of language achievement and that including FLT in the analysis (rather than solely FLE and FLCA) explained additional variance.

Abstract:
Purpose. Substantiation of the methodology for predicting the state of mine workings based on the study on geomechanical processes when assessing the consequences of mine closure taking into account the entire period of their existence, during which the development of displacement with various intensity occurs in the surrounding coal-bearing mass. Methodology. The study is based on methods of analysis and synthesis, methods of comparison, abstraction, analogy, calculation and construction. The methods of mine tool observations of the manifestations of rock pressure and their processing by methods of correlation and dispersion analysis for establishing the relationship of displacements of the mine working contour with geomechanical factors were used. Findings. A possibility of stage-by-stage decommissioning of mine workings when grouping mining-and-geological conditions is substantiated. An example of calculating the displacements in a mine working during its decommissioning is presented. The given calculation expressions make it possible to assess the mine working state, taking into consideration the patterns of the geomechanical factor influence on making a technical decision on the expediency of its further operation. Originality. The patterns of the rock pressure manifestation development in sequentially abandoned mine workings have been determined. Based on the methods of correlation-dispersion analysis, the dependence of the mine working contour displacements on geomechanical factors have been revealed throughout the entire period of its existence. Practical value. A methodology for assessing the state of mine workings at the time of their decommissioning has been developed, which is an integral part of the recommendations to limit the negative influence of mine closure. The peculiarity of the methodology is in taking into account the entire period of mine workings existence, which leads to a well-grounded technical decision on the possibility of dismantling the metal structures with the complete exclusion of emergency situations.

Abstract:
The long-term financial health of a corporation is assessed by its capacity to meet short-term financial commitments. Optimum working capital that maximizes enterprise value varies across companies. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether Indian manufacturing enterprises’ firm values are influenced by working capital management efficiency. The data are taken from 2016 to 2022 (a seven-year period) for 223 top BSE-listed manufacturing companies. Firm value (explained variable) is proxied using Tobin’s Q, and the constituents of working capital, which include the net trade cycle, inventory period, debtors’ collection period, and creditor payment period, are taken as explanatory variables. The study also controls for any differences in firm characteristics and economic conditions by employing firm size, age, current ratio, net profit ratio, sale growth and GDP growth rate. Balanced-panel data analysis is conducted by employing a two-step generalized method of moment technique. Net trade cycle, inventory period and debtors’ collection period are found to have a strong and significant positive impact on Tobin’s Q. The findings however did not report any evidence of the significant relationship between creditor payment period and Tobin’s Q. Additionally, the outcomes also evidenced that firm value is positively impacted by company size, net profit ratio, sales growth and GDP, whereas negatively affected by firm age. This paper suggests that manufacturing firms may potentially enhance their firm value by prolonging the net trade cycle, period of inventory and lengthening the credit period to customers till the level of attainment of an optimum working capital.

Abstract:
There have been many studies exploring the advantages that bilingualism confers to individuals’ working memory and metacognition (see Ransdell, 2006; Del Missier et al., 2010). The hypothesis of language critical period states that if no language learning and teaching happen during the critical period, an individual will never be able to fully grasp any language to a full extent (Fromkin et al., 1974). This study investigates whether late bilingualism (second language acquisition after the critical period) will positively affect a person’s working memory and metacognition just like early bilingualism (second language acquisition before the critical period) does. Sixty Chinese persons between the ages of 18 and 35 participated in my online experimental protocol, including a language experience questionnaire, a reading comprehension exam, and a reading span task. I found that late bilingualism poses a similar advantage to an individual’s working memory as early bilingualism, while it negatively affects an individual’s metacognitive awareness of their own language ability.
