Abstract:
Platformer level generation has often used a beat metaphor to relate to how players interact with level geometry. However, this conceptualization of beats is different from the musical concept of `beat', limiting the utility of theories and tools developed in music analysis for platformer levels. A gameplay gestalt, a pattern of interaction that the player enacts or performs in order to make progress in a game, may fit the beat metaphor. By taking a very similar lens and viewing players playing platformer levels as enacting a series of gameplay gestalts through time, gestalt music analysis (GM

This article traces the origins and uses of the musical classifications "world music" and "world beat." The term "world beat" was first used by the musician and DJ Dan Del Santo in 1983 for his syncretic hybrids of American R&B, Afrobeat, and Latin popular styles. In contrast, the term "world music" was coined independently by at least three different groups: European jazz critics (ca. 1963), American ethnomusicologists (1965), and British record companies (1987). Applications range from the musical fusions between jazz and non-Western musics to a marketing category used to sell almost any

Abstract:
The German philosopher and mathematican Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, maintained that this world god created was the best of all possible worlds. God could not have created a world that would contain a contradiction. In Descartes`opossed view, it was possible for God to create a world containing contradictions. The two philosophers`s dispute concerned the issue of what is it that is necessary, as opossed to that which is arbitrary, in a created world. Against this background, I would like to discuss William E. Mkufya`s novel, Ziraili na Zirani.

Abstract The chapter analyses the impact that Concorde’s commercial flights starting in January 1976 made on the Italian press and public opinion. The supersonic plane became the icon of the 1970s. Its aim was to beat the barriers of time and space and to connect a much smaller, faster and globalized world. A review of Italian newspapers and documentaries enables one to retrace the technological and political challenges posed by the supersonic flight, as well as the story of the most controversial, expensive, exclusive plane in history.

Critics of privatization argue that poor labor force restructuring is a key concern and that governments should establish better retrenchment programs. Using new data from a random sample of 400 companies in the world, we test competing theories about the wisdom of retrenchment programs and their effect on prices paid by buyers and re-hiring policies by private owners after privatization. Our results show that adverse selection plagues retrenchment programs carried out by governments before privatization.
