Abstract:
Taking into consideration the Ukrainian Small Encyclopedia, the article recreates the worldview for the Ukrainian state in the interpretation of the encyclopedia’s author Yevhen Onatsky. The USE is a large-scale encyclopedic text by Yevhen Onatsky, which has no analogues. In this text the author concentrated his scientific and journalistic achievements over his life. A comparison of the USE with other encyclopedias gives the right to say that subjectivity in judgments is characteristic not of Onatsky’s work only, but of many other encyclopedias, in particular of the «Encyclopedia, or a Systematic Dictionary of the Sciences, Arts, and Crafts» by Diderot and d’Alembert, of Wikipedia and in general of any encyclopedia that claims to explain processes and phenomena. Owing to its subjective component, the USE is valuable not only as an encyclopedic work, but also as a journalistic one. From this point of view, the most noteworthy are encyclopedic articles of a worldview nature that are of immediate practical importance both in times of statelessness and at the stage of the Ukrainian state-building. In his encyclopedia, Onatsky sharply condemns Marxism as an ideology, the USSR as an attempt to imitate its implementation in practice, Moscow imperialism as the essence of the Bolshevik state. The other author’s warnings, although less accentuated, are evoked by the vices of the free world: soulless egocentrism, hedonism, consumerism, as well as parliamentarism, capitalism and colonialism, if they are built on fraud and exploitation of man by man. Onatsky contrasts the named social phenomena with an ethos of struggle, supported by an unshakable hope of ultimate success; spiritual nationalism, the meaning of which is solidarity between members of society and service to higher ideals; thinking in the interests of the community (nation), and not in the interests of individuals, political parties or classes. Keywords: Ukrainian small encyclopedia, Yevhen Onatsky, journalism, worldview, Ukrainian state.

Abstract:
In this article, we present an analysis of the 10-volumed Australian Encyclopedia published in 1958. The purpose of the analysis is to identify encyclopedic information concerning the Ukrainian people. Since the late 19th century, a part of the Ukrainian ethnic group inhabits the Australian continent, so it is natural to expect the appearance of Ukrainians in encyclopedic publications of Australia. But do Australians mention Ukrainians in their own fundamental encyclopedias? This question is caused not only by the general interest, but also by the fact that Ukraine is shown in the national narratives of many countries through various myths generated by Soviet propaganda. Therefore, the analysis of the representation of Ukrainians in the pages of foreign encyclopedias is a topical issue of contemporary Ukrainian studies in general. In this study, we found that the main body of information about Ukrainians is statistical data about the Ukrainian community in Australia, which settled after the Second World War. Among the 10 volumes there are no mentions of Ukraine, its capital, prominent people of the nation, etc. In addition, general highlights of the Australian encyclopedia publishing sphere are proposed. It is noted that the Australian Encyclopedia as a fundamental work published in six editions during 1925–1996 is the main achievement of the Australian encyclopediography. It is noteworthy that there is currently no national online encyclopedia in Australia. At the same time, there are domain (subject-specific) publications by research teams among other achievements of contemporary Australian encyclopedia publishing, such as the Encyclopaedia of Aboriginal Australia, the Historical Encyclopedia of Western Australia, the Companion to Tasmanian History, etc.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the 5th anniversary of the electronic version of The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine (EMU) on the Internet (website: esu.com.ua). The study reveals the functions performed by the EMU can be better implemented due to its online version. These include accumulating of nationally relevant knowledge (about Ukraine, Ukrainians, Ukrainian phenomena and realities) and disseminating it in society, playing an important educational role, fostering patriotic feelings among Ukrainians based of this knowledge, understanding of national ideas, self-identifying, etc. The EMU website has high traffic, search engine positioning (Google), therefore, provides access to encyclopedic knowledge of a much larger audience than a printed version of this encyclopedia. The disadvantages of the online version of ESU are also highlighted. First of all, the words in the text are shortened like in paper encyclopedias, which have a reason to save space on the pages. There is also no English section. Today, English-language versions of the articles would contribute to destruct the stereotypes about Ukraine, its people, language, culture, history, etc., formed by the Soviet picture of the world (Pax Sovietica) as well as supported and deepened by followers of the Russian world (Pax Russica).

Encyclopedic ideas are implemented in the forms of a summa, encyclopedia, dictionary, as well as a novel. In Gustave Flaubert’s Bouvard and Pécuchet also their spatial modalities have been subjected to fabularisation (a cabinet of curiosities, a library, a museum). The aim of the article is to interpret these spatialisations in the context of the thematic order of chapters in the discussed work and selected elements of the presented world, as well as to evaluate the diagnoses made by Flaubert in relation to systematic knowledge and the very idea of encyclopedism in the period of modernity.

Abstract:
This article discusses the encyclopedic entry on the representation of spirituality in the short stories of Setangkai Melati di Sayap Jibril by Danarto. From the phenomenological analysis of the encyclopedic entries of spirituality representation in the short stories in the book, it can be stated that the spiritual dimension in Danarto's short story collection, for the way of representation, explores his spirituality inspiration through a number of encyclopedic entries. In simple terms, the various entries in the encyclopedia of spirituality can be mapped into four categories, namely (1) representations of spirituality that cultivate the myths of guardians in Java, (2) representations of spirituality that process wayang stories, (3) representations of spirituality that are spiritual from The guardian myth entries and the wayang world, both of them, are two indigenous encyclopedias, so the spiritual dimension in this collection of short stories can be mapped more simply into three entry categories, namely spirituality with indigenous encyclopedias, spirituality with contemporary encyclopedias, and spirituality with encyclopedias. futuristic. The distribution of the encyclopedic entries on the path of spiritual representation shows that the short stories in this book can be regarded as representations that maintain the meaning of spirituality in its essence, namely as something that has a single meaning, and at the same time shows that the representation of spirituality is something that is open to a variety of possible path choices.

Abstract:
From the beginnings of modern Encyclopaedism (Encyclopédie) until the 20th century, the evolution of the this genre has undergone a transformation that, in a certain way, has violated its main principles of objectivity and universality in the transmission and fixation of knowledge. The successful project of the Britannica and the effects in Germany, and Europe, of the 'Lexikon revolution' transform encyclopedic knowledge, and its substance, the encyclopaedic discourse, into a national construction tool. France (Grand dictionnaire universel du XIXe siècle by Pierre Larousse), the United Kingdom and the Anglo-Saxon world with the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Germany with the Allgemeine Encyclopädie der Wissenschaften und Künste, as well as the encyclopaedic products of Brockhaus and Meyers, and Spain (Enciclopedia universal ilustrada europeo-americana) are the referents and the exponents of the so-called national encyclopedism. Among the main European referents, only Italy did not have an encyclopedia that responded to this desire to build, fix and disseminate an encyclopaedic knowledge that interpreted knowledge, and issues that affected its social construction, from one genuinely Italian, and national point of view. The objective of the thesis is, then, to demonstrate how a fact of the capital importance for the evolution of Italy, such as the First World War (1914-1918), determined not only the creation of a knowledge and discourse specific about the war and its consequences, but was decisive for the Italian encyclopedism to become aware of its importance as a factor of national construction. As a conclusion, and through the analysis of the encyclopaedic discourse of the Italian encyclopaedic production from 1915 to 1940, the elements that have allowed to corroborate and contrast what has already been suggested at the beginning have been extracted: political realities, Italian social and cultural interwar interpreted the Italian experience in the First World War in accordance with predetermined interests to their own contingency. In the case of the last liberal Italy (1918-1922), war was justified and interpreted as the last phase in the emancipation of Italy as a nation (Fourth war for independence). With regard to fascist Italy, war was the crucible where New Fascist Italy (Nova Italia) emerged from trenches with an imperial destiny.

Abstract:
Pieter Bruegel the Eider's paintings De verkeerde wereld, Het gevecht tussen Karnava/ en Vasten, Luilekker/and, Dulle Grief and Landschap, met Icarus' val are interpreted as sixteenth-century parodies using the paradoxia epidemica as a tropic means for interpreting the artist's wit, irony, parody and picaresque stance towards his source material and his milieu. Where applicable, other works relating to a particular argument are also discussed. As a result of this investigation, an original contribution has been made in the literature on both Bruegel and parody as a form of visual communication.

Abstract:
As a topic for this conference I chose the first Romanian Encyclopedia, a luxury edition for those times, published in Sibiu in three volumes during “two centuries”: the first volume appeared in 1898, the second – in 1900, and the last – in 1904. This old and rare book is found in Special Collections of the Central Library. The volume was published with the support of the Association for Romanian Literature and the Culture of the Romanian People, edited by Dr. Diaconovich. The first Romanian Encyclopedia is an exceptional edition with an enviable informational volume, a true jewel of cultural and spiritual heritage. Certainly, several hundred scientists, scholars, writers, historians, lawyers, engineers, etc., from all fields of human activity and many countries of the world, have contributed to this titanic work. We will not be wrong if we affirm that all the knowledge of mankind until 1905 was included on these few thousand pages; the work being well located in Romania and in the entire Romanian cultural space.

In this paper, we investigate how to keep the freshness of the knowledge base by synchronizing it with its data source (usually encyclopedia websites). A direct solution is revisiting the whole encyclopedia periodically and rerun the entire pipeline of the construction of knowledge base like most existing methods. However, this solution is wasteful and incurs massive overload of the network, which limits the update frequency and leads to knowledge obsolescence. To overcome the weakness, we propose a set of synchronization principles upon which we build an Update System for knowledge Base (USB) with an update frequency predictor of entities as the core component. We also design a set of effective features and realize the predictor. We conduct extensive experiments to justify the effectiveness of the proposed system, model, as well as the underlying principles. Finally, we deploy USB on a Chinese knowledge base to improve its freshness.

Abstract:
The article highlights the first Romanian Encyclopedia, a luxury edition for those times, published in Sibiu in three volumes during “two centuries”: the first volume appeared in 1898, the second – in 1900, and the last – in 1904. This old and rare book is found in Special Collections Section of the Central Library. The volume was published with the support of the Association for Romanian Literature and the Culture of the Romanian People, edited by Dr. C. Diaconovici. The first Romanian Encyclopedia is an exceptional edition with an enviable informational volume, a true jewel of cultural and spiritual heritage. Certainly, several hundred scientists, scholars, writers, historians, lawyers, engineers, etc. from all fields of human activity and many countries of the world have contributed to this titanic work. We will not be wrong if we say that all the knowledge of mankind until 1905 is contained on these few thousand pages; the work being well located in Romania and in the entire Romanian cultural space.

Abstract:
In Vietnam nowadays, the phone is a vital and necessary device for students. This is due to smartphones' excellent capabilities, which serve to link people all over the world while also being helpful tools for students, such as the internet, taking photos, maps, payments, etc. According to research, students' smartphone purchases are influenced by elements such as hardware sector, software, technology, brand, money, and certain fundamental aspects. As a result, technology has had a significant impact on today's pupils as a result of these elements. Recognizing these trends, manufacturers are progressively launching improved items to deliver services to the younger generation. Smartphones are now compared to an online encyclopedia, allowing students to serve their studies and readily obtain the information they are looking for. According to this background, the purpose of this research is to discover Vietnamese students' behaviors in smartphone purchase decisions, specifically the factors and tendencies that have the most influence on their decisions. This study's procedures include not just conducting a poll with a series of questions but also examining secondary sources to determine the outcome of this investigation. The analysis will also be valuable for telecom executives and phone makers in understanding smartphone reactions and sales tactics. As a result, it will expand customer areas.

Abstract:
Kant distinguishes two notions of the sublime: the mathematically sublime and the dynamically sublime. In the case of both notions, the experience of the sublime consists in a feeling of the superiority of our own power of reason, as a super sensible faculty, over nature. (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy) The concept of the sublime was associated with nature in late 18th and early 19th century aesthetics. Political philosopher and states-man Edmund Burke evoked human mortality in A Philosophical Inquiry into the Origin of our Ideas of the Sublime and the Beautiful, defining the sublime as experience of the overwhelming magnitude of phenomena in the natural world which causes “a sort of delightful horror, a sort of tranquility tinged with terror; which, as it belongs to self-preservation, is one of the strongest of all the passions.” Kant, in contrast to Burke, defines rationality is an important component of the experience of the sublime: “The sublime is to be found in an object even devoid of form, so far as it immediately involves, or else by its presence provokes a representation of limitlessness, yet with a super-added thought of its totality.” That is, reason--super-added thought--allows us to comprehend and challenge the entirety of that which is beyond comprehension. He writes that “the feeling of the sublime in nature is respect for our own vocation . . . this feeling renders as it were intuitable the supremacy of our cognitive faculties on the rational side over the greatest faculty of sensibility.” For Kant, in other words, the experience of the sublime was the oscillation between sensation and rationality in the face of the overwhelming-ness of phenomena in the world.

Abstract:
Papua New Guinea lies just north of Australia (Fig. 1). It is a developing island nation, with 462,839 km of land area, a population of 3.9 million people, and vast natural resources (Compton’s Interactive Encyclopedia, 1996). It is the largest island in the Oceania region of the world, which also includes Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. Most of these islands share similar resources, and prudent development of the resources requires utilization of nondestructive evaluation (NDE). NDE provides the means for flaw detection and size assessment, as well as evaluation of material degradation such as corrosion and hydrogen attack. These are factors which affect the service life of components and systems. Being aware of the state of degradation of these components and systems will enable cost effective maintenance, and reduce costly and dangerous failures. Recognizing the need for NDE expertise, the Papua New Guinea University of Technology at Lae has initiated a Center for Nondestructive Evaluation. Once operational, the center should serve the entire Oceania region, and provide resources, trained students and expertise that will enable the growth of the NDE industry within that area. It is widely accepted that NDE adds value to a product or process, not just cost. The amount of value is directly related to the engineering education of the personnel making NDE decisions. The growth of the NDE industry in these South Pacific Islands will add to the economy, as well as aid in the further creation of a population of engineers who are well educated in NDE.
