As a culturally distinctive region, Asia was chosen as the sample for this study. This empirical study investigated what the major trends of democratisation were in Asia between 1981 and 2005: why some countries became democratic while other countries failed to follow suit during that period. The main research hypothesis was: “That is it was mainly economic development that drove democratisation in Asia between 1981 and 2005”. Although some studies have studied the impact of economic development on democratisation in Asia, their findings have been inconclusive and focuses sometimes different.

University of Technology, Sydney. Faculty of Science.<br>The aim of this thesis is to price contingent claims under the real-world probability measure. Real-world pricing results naturally by selecting the numeraire as the growth optimal portfolio (GOP). Under this approach, the existence of an equivalent risk-neutral probability measure is not required. Furthermore, the GOP can be used to define other basic contingent claims, such as exchange prices, primary security accounts, and even zero-coupon bonds. We begin with application of the real-world pricing formula to derive forward prices for

The Japanese government’s apologies are considered to still not be enough. Old age is claiming survivors of the war before their demands for justice are being satisfied making it all the more urgent to resolve this situation. What Japan and and other involved nations do will affect regional relations in Asia and how future generations view truth and history. Legally Japan occupies a strong positio

The intellectual impulsiveness of man to understand the unknown and the continual need of the society to improve healthcare have encouraged extensive investigation on numerous and diverse cause-and-effect relationships. The nature of this endeavor, however, renders the inability of investigator at all levels to escape beyond the narrow conceptual boundary described by an early French philosopher as the vicious cycle. To enjoy the theoretically plausible benefits of refined labor division, data-driven healthcare management, and real-time evidence-based practices, it must first be acknowledged t

In recent years, there have been several proposals for large-scale human genotyping projects in the developing world. The dissertation presented here explores the motivations, opportunities and challenges of initiating locally led, large-scale genotyping projects documenting human genomic variation in the developing world. I analyze two case studies: the Indian Genome Variation Consortium in India and the University of Cape Town, Department of Human Genetics and the African Genomics Education Initiative in South Africa. Language development in children depends on domain-specific language mechanisms, biases and domain-general cognitive development (i.e., executive functions [EFs]). Additionally, both language proficiency and EFs underpin new learning and predict academic success and lifelong wellbeing. However, despite the intuitive assumption that EFs are involved in the development of language, the relationship between word-learning abilities and EFs is not fully understood. Therefore, the present thesis addresses this gap by examining novel word learning under three different scenarios integrating three mai

The aims of this thesis is to prove that storyworld construed as a mental model manages to avoid some problems that relate to fictional worlds theories. First chapter provides an insight into the issue of definitions and theories of character and places cognitive approaches to character within it. The first appearance of Augmented Reality (AR), a technology that mixes the real and virtual world through a device, goes back to 1968. An increasingly impact of digitalization in our society lead to the change of many business models and it has had an impact on retail. Retailers are now experimenting new ways to meet customer needs and expectations to remain competitive in the digital environment.
