In the traditional instructional approach to school mathematics, students Jearn and practice a series of separate mathematical skills, then perhaps use them to solve simple, usually unrealistic, application problems. This approach has produced students whose mathematical knowledge is not only unconnected to the real world but unconnected within itself. Students seldom make intuitive sense out of mathematics approached this way. It is no wonder that they do not believe that mathematics can help them make sense of the world around them and are always asking, “When are we ever going to use this?”

This note examines some statistical features of the major league baseball World Series. We show that, based upon actual historical data, we cannot reject the hypothesis that the two World Series teams are evenly matched. Yet, we can also calculate the relative strengths of the teams that would best match the actual outcomes, and we find that those relative strengths are not equal. Including the home field advantage in the calculations indicates that the differential in relative strength between the competing teams can be explained by this advantage. We present the relative team strengths that

ABSTRACTLive‐action superhero films currently play a significant role at the box office, which means they also play a significant role in culture's understandings about justice. For the most part, however, superhero films are dominated by philosophies based in irrational fears and stereotypes, perpetuating an antiquated concept of justice that contributes detrimentally to societies around the world. Wonder Woman enriches the pantheon of superheroes by representing restorative justice, which is part of a more comprehensive approach to crime‐fighting, in which mediators work with victims and off

The main aim of this paper has tried to find the effect of macroeconomic factors like trade, population growth rate, domestic credit to private sector, and consumer price index on GDP growth using time series data of the last four decades (1975-2018) of Nepal which has been retrieved from a legitimate source of World Bank. This study has used descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression model to access the relationship between predictors and predictand variables. It has been found that there was no significant relationship between GDP growth and macroeconomic factors. This implies that

The food production process across the developing world is under huge pressure pertaining to mounting challenges like water shortage, low fertility of the land, climatic variations, lack of technological progress, and many other unforeseen challenges. This study explores the impact of water crises on food production. The food production index was used for food production and water crises relationship measured in water availability (million-acre feet). Other explanatory variables, remittances, fertilizer, number of tractors, agricultural land, were used as control factors for the period 1975 to

Our study examines the conventional wisdom that causality runs from selected macroeconomic variables to economic growth in Ethiopia. Time series data from 1975 to 2018 were used to determining short and long run relationship among variables. A Johansen’s Cointegration test was used to investigate the presence of long run equilibrium relationship between variables while the Vector Error Correction Model and Granger Causality were used to test the short and long run causality direction between variables. The data were derived from the National Bank of Ethiopia (2020) and World Bank report (2020)

This article presents an analysis of WB Yeats’ ‘Leda and the Swan’ for the 21st century, adopting a Text World Theory perspective (Gavins, 2007; Hidalgo Downing, 2000; Werth, 1999) on this iconic poem. In so doing, I also trace the evolution of the discipline of stylistics – from its roots in formalist linguistics, through functionalist and contextualised stylistics, to the development of cognitive poetics – by examining a series of shifting analyses of the text. I argue that the varying treatments of Yeats’ poem to be found in Halliday (1966), Widdowson (1975) and Burke (2000) can be seen to
