Abstract:
In contemporary studies in war history, the study of the specifics of the discourse in question is a fairly popular area of research. The evolution of the process of visualisation and mythologisation of World War II in American cinematography is analysed using the methods of historical imagology. It is hard to grasp the peculiarities of the evolution of and interaction between US cinema and propaganda without exploring the basic principles, methods, mechanisms, and tools of this process. The main research goal is to establish the features and methods of propaganda used in the film Wake Island. Wake Island combines old and new methods of war propaganda and visualisation. Wake Island is a good example of the early evolution of both US state propaganda through cinema and the development of the visual image of World War II, which was influenced by both the social mythology associated with the US historical past and foreign policy failures, such as the collapse of US-Japan negotiations in 1941, the attack on Pearl-Harbor, and the defeat in the Battle of Guam in December 1941, as well as socio-economic changes in the country. The film Wake Island created a new image of the Marine: a universal hero for a series of films from 1942–1945.

Abstract:
Have you ever wondered why the well-known Mill Hill Vocabulary Scale was named after a suburb of North London? Little known to most psychiatrists or to local people in Mill Hill, a major part of the Maudsley Hospital was evacuated there from central London during the Second World War. Mill Hill School had been evacuateden masseto St Bees in Cumberland. The vacant buildings were requisitioned by the Emergency Medical Service for the Maudsley Hospital. Much innovative psychiatric treatment and research took place there throughout the war with a star-studded cast, including some outstanding clinicians and researchers. This brief review of historical sources aims to give a flavour of the clinical work of the Mill Hill Maudsley.

O'Sullivan, Brian. "Away All Boats: A Study of the evolution and development of amphibious warfare in the Pacific War." Thesis, University of Canterbury. History, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10092/1641.

Full text
Abstract:
Amphibious operations are a topic central to the history of World War Two in the Pacific Theatre. The majority of research on this topic has been centred on the impact of American experiences and successes attributed to the development and evolution of amphibious warfare. The contributions of the United Kingdom and Japan to the development of amphibious warfare have been either overlooked or marginalized. This thesis will investigate the amphibious activities of all three powers both during and before the Pacific War, and seek to explain the importance of each nation's contribution to amphibious warfare. In addition, the thesis will demonstrate how in its highest forms amphibious operations became a fully fledged system of global force projection. The thesis will explain how each of these powers interpreted the legacy of the failure of the 1915 Gallipoli campaign both in the context of their own wartime experiences, and in their respective strategic worldviews. This interpretation is central to how each power prepared for amphibious operations in the next war. The importance of the geography of the Pacific Ocean to the evolution and development of amphibious warfare will be discussed, as will the advances in technology that allowed the creation of logistical systems to support these operations.

Abstract:
Historical demography in Russia as a scientific field is experiencing rapid growth. Since the late 1980s, numerous works have been published on various issues of demographic history. Considerable attention is now being paid to the demographic aspects of the World War II. While the issue of human losses in the USSR is of great interest, much less attention is drawn to the problem of population reproduction in 1939-1945. Simultaneously, reproduction processes underwent such a significant distortion during the war years that they should be taken into account when determining the scale of the demographic catastrophe that shook Russia. The main purpose of this article is to identify the leading trends and features of marriage and birth rate of the Russian population during the World War II.
