Abstract:
Chapter 3 focuses in on Burke’s Irish identity and asks how it affected interpretations of his character and thought. Many of his early admirers were Irish, and indeed many of his later ones too. Burke had been subject to taunts that he was a Jesuit and characteristics associated with Celtic stereotypes were ascribed to his work—from literary eloquence and a type of genius which ‘blended’ national characteristics, to fervent irrational passion and even madness. Included are commentaries from figures such as Matthew Arnold, Goldwin Smith, W. E. H. Lecky, and F. D. Maurice. The result shows the

Abstract:
This chapter proposes a distinction between syntactic phases headed by C and D as final, in contrast to other non-final phases. Final phases act as stronger boundaries for head movement and provide final landing sites for A′-movement, but non-final phases, while still constituting spell-out domains, impose weaker boundaries. This chapter particularly investigates the phonological effects of final and non-final phases in Ojibwe, and the different processes that can apply at the spell-out of each type of domain. An analysis is provided for an ordering paradox between palatalization and apocope,

Abstract:
Three successive parts are presented within this article, all intended to raise the visibility and show the utility of classical geopolitics as a deserving and separate international-relations model: (a) a common traditional definition, (b) relevant theories that correspond to that definition, and (c) applications of certain theories that will delve at some depth into three case studies (the Ukrainian shatterbelt, contemporary Turkish geopolitics, and a North American heartland). The placement of states, regions, and resources, as affecting international relations and foreign policies, defines

Abstract:
John Stuart Mill is a liberal icon, widely praised in particular for his stirring defense of freedom of speech. A neo-Millian theory of free speech is outlined and contrasted in important respects with what Frederick Schauer calls “the free speech ideology” that surrounds the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and with Schauer’s own “pre-legal” theory of free speech. Mill cannot reasonably be interpreted to defend free speech absolutism if speech is understood broadly to include all expressive conduct. Rather, he is best interpreted as defending an expedient policy of laissez-faire with
