Abstract:
Coal gangue-based cemented backfill material (CGCBM) is developed for backfilling the goaf in coal mines. As fresh CGCBM slurry is generally transported into underground openings through a pipeline, and after hardening, it plays the role of supporting the overlying strata. The fluidity, stability, and mechanical (compressive strength) of CGCBM become the most important properties. Adding water-reducing agents (WRAs) is considered to improve the fluidity, stability, and mechanical properties of CGCBM, but there is a risk of increased bleeding. So, two types of WRA (naphthalene series (WRA1) and poly carboxylic acid (WRA2)) are used at different contents (1.0%-2% for WRA1, 0.2%–0.6% for WRA2) by mass of binder. Slump, slump flow, yield stress, and plastic viscosity test are used to evaluate the fluidity properties of CGCBM after adding WRA. Bleeding rate test is used to evaluate the stability of CGCBM after adding WRA. Compressive strength is the most important factor in measuring the mechanical properties. SEM and XRD tests are used to analyse the mechanism of strength change. Results show that the slump, slump flow, and plastic viscosity increase after adding WRA, which reduces the yield stress and improves the fluidity. The bleeding rate increases with the increase of WRA content, leading to a decrease in stability. Adding WRA increases the compressive strength, and it increases first and then decreases with the increase of the content at the later stage. Considering the effects of WRA on the fluidity, stability, and compressive strength properties of CGCBM, the reasonable content of WRA1 and WRA2 is 1.5% and 0.4%, respectively. The research results provide guidance for the design and preparation of CGCBM with favourable performance in practical production.

Abstract:
“Phylloid algae” (Pray and Wray, 1963, p. 209) are problematical fossils that occur profusely in Pennsylvanian carbonate microfacies in the United States (Wray, 1968) and many other parts of the world (Mamet, 1991). Taxonomic affinities of most phylloid alga are uncertain. The questionable affinities of phylloid algae and related paleoecologic problems have been summarized by Riding (1977), Wray (1979), and James et al. (1988) and will not, therefore, be repeated here. Our ability to establish probable taxonomic affinities of fossil calcareous algae is dependent largely upon the recognition of their internal microstructures. Because phylloid algae are very susceptible to dissolution and neomorphism, their original internal microstructures are rarely well preserved.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT We present the results of study of the Galactic candidate luminous blue variable Wray 15-906, revealed via detection of its infrared circumstellar shell (of ≈2 pc in diameter) with the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer and the Herschel Space Observatory. Using the stellar atmosphere code cmfgen and the Gaia parallax, we found that Wray 15-906 is a relatively low-luminosity, $\log (L/\rm \, L_\odot)\approx 5.4$, star of temperature of 25 ± 2 kK, with a mass-loss rate of ${\approx}3\times 10^{-5} \, \rm \, M_\odot \, {\rm yr}^{-1}$, a wind velocity of $280\pm 50 \, {\rm \, km\, s^{-1}}$, and a surface helium abundance of 65 ± 2 per cent (by mass). In the framework of single-star evolution, the obtained results suggest that Wray 15-906 is a post-red supergiant star with initial mass of ${\approx}25 \, \rm \, M_\odot$ and that before exploding as a supernova it could transform for a short time into a WN11h star. Our spectroscopic monitoring with the Southern African Large Telescope does not reveal significant changes in the spectrum of Wray 15-906 during the last 8 yr, while the V-band light curve of this star over years 1999–2019 shows quasi-periodic variability with a period of ≈1700 d and an amplitude of ≈0.2 mag. We estimated the mass of the shell to be $2.9\pm 0.5 \, \rm \, M_\odot$ assuming the gas-to-dust mass ratio of 200. The presence of such a shell indicates that Wray 15-906 has suffered substantial mass-loss in the recent past. We found that the open star cluster C1128−631 could be the birth place of Wray 15-906 provided that this star is a rejuvenated product of binary evolution (a blue straggler).

Full text
Abstract:
Well-watered crops of sweet sorghum (cv. Wray) and forage sorghum (cv. Silk) were grown in south-eastern Queensland. Treatments consisted of four sowing dates, two intra-row spacings and harvests taken at six physiological growth stages from the third ligule to 3 weeks after grain maturity. Plant density effects on the concentration of sugars and nitrogen were slight, and changes in yields of these components were a function of density effects on dry matter yields. At any growth stage, the concentration of sugars in both cultivars was decreased with delay in sowing date. The delay in sowing date led to an increased nitrogen concentration in cv. Wray, but in cv. Silk the nitrogen concentration was highest in early and late sowings. At maturity, the concentration of sugars in cv. Wray averaged 40'70, 10 times the level in cv. Silk. In both cultivars, accumulation was a near linear function of either time or radiation sum. The partitioning of carbohydrate differed little between cultivars but altered with their ontogeny. The efficiency of light use for sugars production was greater in cv. Wray and altered with ontogeny. In contrast, concentration of nitrogen was similar for both cultivars and decreased curvilinearly with time or degree days. The partitioning of nitrogen altered with ontogeny and the amount partitioned to leaf material was greater in cv. Silk pre-anthesis but was less post-anthesis. Yield of stem sugars in cv. Wray exceeded 10 t ha-1 when the crops were sown early in the season, but was only 3 t ha-1 with late-sown crops.

Abstract:
In a time of rapid development of technologies, new forms of contracting online emerge. Two of these are analyzed in this thesis: click-wrap agreements (where an offer is accepted by way of clicking on an icon “I agree”) and browse-wrap agreements (where the offeree supposedly accepts the offer by browsing on a website, while the terms to the contract are accessible through an inconspicuous hyperlink). Click-wrap agreements are formed, they are accepted in a manner recognized as binding and the offeree knows the terms she assents to. Browse-wrap agreements are generally not formed. Even though the action of browsing on a website could indicate assent, the offeree must know that the act of browsing will be construed as acceptance. But the offeree is generally not made aware of the terms to the contract and thus cannot assent to what she is not aware of. However, if the offeree is in fact aware of the terms to the contract and still knowingly performs the action of browsing, a contract is formed and the offeree is bound. There are some doctrinal problems with an element of an offer – intent to be bound. E-contracting involves a great deal or recklessness by the offerors as well as offerees, leading to the conclusion that the action of clicking “I agree” does not really indicate the intent of the party who performs the act, to actually agree. There is no adequate answer to this problem presently. To sum up, the enforceability of click-wrap contracts is settled in courts, it is a... Arshad, Awan Muhammad. "WiMAX Traffic Calculations in WRAP." Thesis, Department of Computer and Information Science, 2009. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-19941.

Full text
Abstract:
<p>The aim of the thesis is to develop and describe WRAP’s capabilities in handling the WiMAX standard as defined in IEEE 802.16e related to traffic capacity calculations. WRAP International has developed the software WRAP for spectrum management and radio network planning. WRAP includes various technical calculation functions that are applied for design and analysis tasks with the purpose of achieving the desired quality of service within radio communication networks, navigation and radar systems. WRAP already includes functions for radio wave calculations to establish for instance coverage; best server maps etc, as well as traffic calculations for cellular networks (2G) using channel-orientated calculations that are modeled by Erlang B and Erlang C formulas. Since WiMAX supports multiple broadband data services including voice, video, web data, interactive network gaming and streaming media so there is a need to build a tool for the estimation of WiMAX traffic capacity calculations. Some methods and algorithms are analyzed and a tool has been built to ease the network planner’s job. It works based upon the calculations and algorithm presented in the report. Total number of users and data rate supported by a base station is calculated and total number of base stations, required for the coverage of a specific area is determined. This new tool is compatible with WRAP’s current functions.</p>

Abstract:
This thesis intends to investigate some of the legal issues raised by e-commerce, specifically the validity and enforceability of the electronic adhesion contracts and the terms and conditions of use. Such electronic juridic acts can be grouped into three subspecies: a) the shrink-wrap licences, reserved for purchase in the store, but yet the consumer can not view the terms and conditions that she or he will be bound by, once the product (often a software) is installed; the consumer is granted with a period of time within she or he can return the product to the store if she or he does not agree with the terms and conditions; b) the click-wrap agreements are contracts presented to the consumer, when dealing on-line, stating the terms and conditions of the purchase, and then, once its read, she or he may point and click in a dialog box indicating her or his consent (such as I agree or some other synonymous expression); and c) the browse-wrap, composed by terms and conditions listed in a hyperlink on the bottom of a web page, which obliges the consumer only because she or he surfs on the Web, nevertheless it is not require that the consumer shows any kind of consent to the terms and conditions. Even though some courts have ruled in favor of the validity and enforceability of browse-wrap, it is very questionable to accept the fact of being bound by something that one never knew that it even existed. Thus, some other courts are of the view that browse-wrap is not technically a contract according to the legal doctrine. Instead it is a sort of private regulation of the disposal of products and services written by the supplier. On one hand, there is a need to enforce electronic commerce in order to stimulate and consolidate it by making electronic contracts binding on consumers. On the other hand, there is a need to protect consumers from the abuse of unequal bargaining power in such contractual relation, which may pit them against a multinational corporation, which operates throughout the world. Thus, jurists and academics must combine efforts to find a sustainable balance between these two sides. Besides there is a need for a uniform and scientific solution, given that a prerequisite to valid contract formation is the unequivocal meeting of the minds which may not happen in this means of contract formation, especially if the supplier does not require any clear and effective sign of assent from the consumer. The touchstone of e-commerce is the law and jurisdiction conflicts since such contracts often include a forum selection clause or a mandatory arbitration clause, which can deprive the consumers of their day in court. In short, it highlights the need for a uniform legislation and a strong consumer protection system to ensure the growth of ecommerce. This would foster a reliable electronic environment meeting the consumers expectations and the market standards.

Abstract:
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 21, 2002 / Town & Country Hotel and Conference Center, San Diego, California<br>The Joint Advanced Missile Instrumentation (JAMI) program is integrating Global Positioning System (GPS) technology into missile telemetry systems. The weakest link appears to be the GPS antenna. The antenna on a missile is required to be flush mounted for aerodynamic reasons. Due to the missile’s tendency to roll, the antenna needs to be a multi-element omnidirectional antenna array. Therefore an antenna used on missiles is a wrap-around antenna since it will meet the flush mount and rolling requirements by giving omnidirectional coverage. JAMI has used readily available techniques for designing wrap-around telemetry antennas to develop a GPS wrap-around antenna and has discovered a major problem. The Phase Center of a wrap-around antenna tends to be a surface, not a point, and not necessarily at the centerline of the missile body. GPS measurements have been conducted to determine the Phase Center of the antenna. When the Phase Center is large, the GPS receiver perceives it as multipath and integer ambiguities cannot be resolved. This paper addresses the problems that have been uncovered and outlines the steps that are planned to resolve them.

Full text
Abstract:
My dissertation critiques Western culture’s vertical command of “growing up” to adult completion (rational, heterosexual, married, wealthy, professionally successful) as a reductionist itinerary of human movement leading to subjective sedimentations. Rather, my project proposes ways of “moving rhizomatically” by which it advances a notion of a machinic identity that moves continuously, contingently, and waywardly along less vertical, less excruciating and more horizontal, life-affirmative trails. To this end, my thesis proposes a “rhizomatic semiosis” as extrapolated from the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari to put forward a notion of language and, by implication, subjectivity, as dynamic and metamorphic. Rather than trying to figure out who the child is or what it experiences consciously, my project wishes to embrace an elusiveness at the heart of subjectivity to argue for continued identity creation beyond the apparently confining parameters of adulthood. This dissertation, then, is about the need to re-examine our ways of growing beyond the lines of teleological progression. By turning to Deleuze’s child, an intangible one that “makes desperate attempts to carry out a performance that the psychoanalyst totally misconstrues” (A Thousand Plateaus 13), I wish to shift focus away from the hierarchical, binary, and ideal model of “growing up” and toward a notion of movement that makes way for plural identities in their becoming. This endeavour reveals itself in particular in the work of John Wray, Todd Field, Peter Cameron, Sara Prichard, Michael Cunningham, and Cormac McCarthy, whose work has received little or no attention at all—a lacuna in research that exists perhaps due to these artists’ innovative approach to a minor literature that promotes the notion of a machinic self and questions the dominant modes of Western culture’s literature for, around, and of children.

Abstract:
<p>Radio planning is designing of network structure and elements under various design requirements. With the increasing shortage of frequencies, radio planning has become more and more complex. Hence, to maintain accuracy and optimization computerized planning tools are needed.</p><p>This thesis focuses on developing a simplified and economical solution on web for radio planning tool using WRAP- the software for spectrum management and radio planning developed by WRAP International AB, Linköping, Sweden. In order to make WRAP calculations available for remote users it had developed APIs. The web-based WRAP needs to communicate with WRAP API server, for exchanging API messages in order to perform calculation. To make the system user friendly and interactive, latest web technologies are implemented.</p><p>In this thesis, we started development process right from requirements gathering to find out required components that need to be analyzed to find suitable web-based conversion. Further, we designed and implemented a software solution. The final part is evaluation to discover if requirements are fully implemented or not as well as to gather the performance result of the new system. It is found, the performance of web based WRAP is equally fast as desktop version for smaller coverage areas whereas, for larger coverage areas, web-based WRAP is slower than desktop version</p>

Thesis (M. Arch.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Architecture, 2010.<br>This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.<br>Cataloged from student submitted PDF version of thesis.<br>Includes bibliographical references (p. 180-181).<br>Dubai is in crisis. The overall vacancy rate of the city continues to grow as more buildings come online with few or no tenants; moreover, the population has declined by one quarter of a million in 2009 alone. Dubai's economic engine, which quickly transformed huge amounts of capital into new architectural "bling," has stalled, revealing the underlying instability of a city built on speculation rather than foresight. Large swathes of the city remain incomplete and largely uninhabited, creating vast urban blights. Dubai risks damage to both its image and its ability to function. The city's decline, however, presents a unique opportunity for immediate and sweeping intervention against urban decay. My thesis proposes a dialectical planning process of retrofitting and shrink-wrapping Dubai. The retrofit strategy engages stopped building projects crucial to Dubai's function and image. The technical goal is to generate corridors of urbanity that permit the city to operate while the population and economy recover. The theoretical aim is not to produce new models for planning, but to generate design proposals that overtly critique and improve upon the existing built environment. The shrink-wrap strategy repositions Dubai's vast oversupply of real estate as an investment for the future. This directive removes redundant buildings or even whole developments from the market and preserves them for eventual redeployment. The goal is to create an image of progressiveness and anticipation, while also physically maintaining these built assets to prevent further economic loses. These planning strategies are posited as theoretical and marketable rationales for investment in Dubai's urban future.<br>by Charles H. Curran.<br>M.Arch.
