Abstract:
SUMMARY: Auditors often encounter contentious accounting and reporting issues that require resolution with the client. The purpose of the current study is to examine the impact of auditor rank on pre-negotiation judgments. To address these issues, 25 managers and 18 partners examine a rich experimental case in which they are asked to consider their position and that of the client on a difficult inventory write-down situation. The results indicate that partners take a harder stand than managers in calling for a higher initial proposed write-down, minimum write-down, and expected write-down. Also, partners' estimates of the maximum write-down the client is willing to accept are greater than managers' estimates. Finally, partners indicated a smaller difference between their initial write-down and the estimated amount that would be recorded, as well as a larger difference between the estimated amount that would be recorded and the minimum acceptable write-down, than did managers. Contrary to expectations, there were no differences in the level of persuasion knowledge between partners and managers.

Abstract:
Objectives: To evaluate the impact of external memory devices on the efficacy of a package of internal mnemonic techniques. Participants wrote two types of lists during the study phase: (a) a list of study words and/or (b) a loci list. At recall, participants were not allowed to refer to either of the lists they had written during the study. Design: 2 × 2 factorial with writing study words (“write” or “not write”) and writing down a previously established loci list (“write” or “not write”) manipulated as between-participants variables. Participants: 68 community-dwelling adults 55 years of age and older who wished to improve their memory. Measurements: Free word recall. Results: There were statistically significant effects of writing the loci list, but not of writing the list of study words. Scores were higher when participants wrote the loci lists compared to when they did not. Conclusions: Use of external mnemonics may enhance the efficacy of internal mnemonics, even when the external mnemonic is not used at the time of recall.

Abstract:
This paper offers a multimodal approach of writing as an embodied interactional action, prefigured by the movements of the entire body, projecting going to write. It considers grassroots participatory democracy meetings as an exemplary setting for studying issues related to writing in public, for the public and on behalf of the public. In this context, a facilitator is in charge of writing down the outcome of the participatory discussion, in a way that is public, transparent and intelligible for the audience. On the basis of extensive video recordings, I study the methodic embodied practices that precede and lead to public writing. The analysis shows that the writing of proposals is contingent on the establishment of an agreement about them: clear agreement is followed by a straight and brisk walk of the facilitator towards the board, projecting the inscription. By contrast, when there are problems in establishing the agreement, his walk is more discontinuous. Finally, in case of persisting disagreement, the walk deploys in very different manners. Thus embodied movements of the facilitator are reflexively related to the agreed upon vs. disagreed status of the proposal that the facilitator is going to inscribe. This demonstrates how writing is strongly projected by walking; and how writing is observably done in a public, transparent, and revisable way as the product of a collective action.

Reliance Corporation, a leading manufacturer of analog and mixed signal products and high performance memory products, experienced a significant downturn in 2004, resulting in a substantial inventory write-down of the memory products inventory. This case requires you to examine the issues of inventory valuation and disclosures and managerial motivations in managing earnings. A recovery of inventory values in the first quarter of 2005 provides a setting for evaluating subsequent financial statement reporting and for understanding the importance of ethics in financial reporting decisions. This case also provides you with an opportunity to research accounting literature, apply an accounting standard to a realistic setting, appreciate the judgments involved in financial reporting decisions, and understand difficulties in the evaluation of materiality.

India is converging its practices to be consistent with IFRS, but in the case of goodwill impairment how much consistency is there among Indian companies and auditors, and how much impairment has been disclosed. The paper investigates these questions. Arguably, the issue of how India writes-down goodwill is important as Indian companies and the Indian share market are influential throughout the world. It is a question of recognition, measurement and disclosure. The findings are that different methods of writing down goodwill are recognised implying different methods of measurement. There is even more inconsistency around disclosure as nearly half of the top 50 companies analysed on the Bombay exchange failed to mention any write down of goodwill. Some companies claimed that they were testing for impairment but no case of actual impairment was reported. This, in spite of some compaines reporting declining earnings and share price

Abstract Pseudo-Riemannian spinc manifolds were introduced by Ikemakhen in [7]. In the present work we consider pseudo-Riemannian 4-manifolds with neutral signature whose structure groups are SO+(2; 2). We prove that such manifolds have pseudo-Riemannian spinc structure. We construct spinor bundle S and half-spinor bundles S+ and S- on these manifolds. For the first Seiberg-Witten equation we define Dirac operator on these bundles. Due to the neutral metric self-duality of a 2-form is meaningful and it enables us to write down second Seiberg-Witten equation. Lastly we write down the explicit forms of these equations on 4-dimensional at space

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to describe the mathematical communication skills of high school students in terms of guardian and idealist personality types. Subjects in this study were taken using a purposive random sampling technique of two students from class X senior high school in Bandar Lampung with different personality types, that is one student with guardian personality type and one student with a idealist personality type based on David Keirsey's personality dimensions, with personality type initial guardian (NAP) and initial idealist personality type (DBD). Mathematical communication skills are analyzed based on the following criteria : (1) the ability to write down what is known and asked about the questions; (2) the ability to write answers according to the purpose of the questions; (3) the ability to write down reasons for answering questions; (4) the ability to make mathematical terms and symbols; (5) the ability to make images that are relevant to the questions; (6) the ability to make conclusions in their own language. The results showed that subjects with guardian personality type were only able to master the five criteria of mathematical communication ability. The subject was unable to conclude with his own language. The results showed that subjects with idealist personality type were only able to master the five criteria of mathematical communication ability but the subject does not master the third criterian, the subject is unable to write down the reasons for answering the question.

Abstract:
Students with learning difficulties typically approach writing by retrieving from memory whatever seems appropriate and writing it down. This retrieve-and-write process minimizes the role of reflection and planning in the composing process. In the current study, we taught three students with learning difficulties a strategy designed to help them become more reflective when writing opinion essays. Following instruction in the strategy, students wrote essays that were longer, provided more support for their premise, and were qualitatively better. Two of the students also changed their approach to writing, developing an initial plan prior to writing that they continued to elaborate and refine as they wrote. Changes in both writing performance and behavior were maintained over time.

Abstract:
Narrating self-experiences inherently involves tension between real time and remembered time, between narrative event and narrated events. Narrators employ various strategies of footing and voicing to position their current “self” vis-à-vis their former selves and their audience. These characteristics are particularly pertinent in the case of significant life changes, such as learning to read and write for the first time as an adult. This paper treats personal narratives of an Israeli immigrant woman elicited during a meeting with a former literacy teacher. The encounter, forty years later, provides an opportunity for both to reestablish their relative identities and reframe their shared history. Analyzing the events — and narratives thereof — within their sociocultural contexts, reveal a delicate balance between gratitude and agency in the construction of a literate identity. These transformational narratives draw upon the Israeli hegemonic narrative of assimilation and modernization as well as the Mizrahi counternarrative of integration, creating a unique version of the consequences of (il)literacy.

Abstract:
Brand personality can be defined as a set of human characteristics associated with a brand (Aaker, 1997).This study reports on the perceived brand personality of symbolic brands as seen by Generation Y students from one higher education institution campus located in South Africa. The respondents were asked to write down the first brand that came to mind for eight symbolic product categories. The top two brands in each category were used in a self-administered questionnaire. A second group of respondents were then asked to write down personality traits they associate with each of the identified brands. These findings, present a unique viewpoint regarding a number of brands and how the respondents perceive their brand personalities.

Full text
Abstract:
Multi-level cell (MLC) phase change memory (PCM) can not only effectively multiply the memory capacity while maintaining the cell area, but also has infinite potential in the application of the artificial neural network. The write and verify scheme is usually adopted to reduce the impact of device-to-device variability at the expense of a greater operation time and more power consumption. This paper proposes a novel write operation for multi-level cell phase change memory: Programmable ramp-down current pulses are utilized to program the RESET initialized memory cells to the expected resistance levels. In addition, a fully differential read circuit with an optional reference current source is employed to complete the readout operation. Eventually, a 2-bit/cell phase change memory chip is presented with a more efficient write operation of a single current pulse and a read access time of 65 ns. Some experiments are implemented to demonstrate the resistance distribution and the drift.

Abstract:
In this article authors take into consideration usage of the verb "point out" in journalistic materials on the basis of reference literature and their own editorial experience. The article focuses on explanation of the meaning of these word in Ukrainian dictionary in eleven tomes and Dictionary of the Ukrainian language online. Materials for analysis are selected from the Ukrainian national daily newspaper "The Day", which is one of the most popular publications in the ranking of national media. It is noted that the token "point out" is correctly used to denote "a gesture, a movement directed somewhere, at someone, something, to draw attention to someone or something; show… point the way… a model for something… mark, highlight, name something, making known, noticeable… paying attention to something, explain, reveal its essence… order someone, make remarks, give orders, to teach…". And in other cases it is necessary to use not Russianism "point out", but "to mark", "to note down", "to fix", "to write", "to submit", "to testify" etc. Correctly write "on the back of the picture the journalist wrote (noted, took notes)…"; "Indicate (submit, write) in the feminine name"; "In the declaration to submit (indicate, write) types of income", "in the section record data on types and amounts of income", "indicate place of residence, series and number of passport, identification code…", "information will not be submitted"; "Indicate (write) in documents", "record (indicate) the year of birth on the envelope"; "Less than 25 patients per 100,000 inhabitants of the country testify…". It is emphasized that the accuracy of word usage depends on the availability, aesthetic impact and effectiveness of newspaper publications.

Using adiabatic switching technique, the power consumption of the register file is significantly reduced as the energy transferred to the large capacitance buses is mostly recovered. HSPICE simulation results have shown power savings of more than 77% as compared to the conventional CMOS implementation. Although the proposed register file is designed with only one read port and one write port, multiple read and/or write ports can be easily constructed by adding additional read and/or write port transistors.

Abstract:
The usage of portable devices increasing rapidly in the modern life has led us to focus our attention to increase the performance of the SRAM circuits, especially for low power applications. Basically in six-Transistor (6T) SRAM cell either read or write operation can be performed at a time whereas, in 7T SRAM cell using single ended write operation and single ended read operation both write and read operations will be accomplished simultaneously at a time respectively. When it comes to operate in sub threshold region, single ended read operation will be degraded severely and single ended write operation will be severely degraded in terms of write-ability at lower voltages. To encounter these complications, an eight transistor SRAM cell is proposed. It performs single ended read operation and single ended write operation together even at sub threshold region down to 0.1V with improved read-ability using read assist and improved dynamic write-ability which helps in reducing the consumption of power by attaining a lower data retention voltage point. To reduce the total power consumption in the circuits, two extra access transistors are used in 8T SRAM cell which also helps in reducing the overall delay.

Abstract:
A new 10T SRAM cell is proposed in this paper for simultaneously addressing the half select problem and improving the read/write stability. Without the half select condition, the proposed 10T cell allows efficient bit-interleaving to provide soft error rate protection and the dynamic power is also decreased significantly due to the reduction in the number of bitlines discharged and charged during the read and write operation. In the new 10T SRAM cell, one side of the cross-coupled inverters cuts off the pull up path or pull down path through adding two gated transistors according to the write ‘0’ or ‘1’ operation. It brings a great improvement for write stability without considering the half select disturb during the write operation. The simulation results indicate that the RSNM and WM of the proposed SRAM cell are enhanced by 130% and 58%, respectively, as compared to the conventional 6T SRAM cell in SMIC 65nm CMOS technology.

Abstract:
Clive Barker often wrote about Joan Littlewood and his time at Theatre Workshop with a mixture of warmth and bewilderment at her unorthodox methods. While preparing her doctoral thesis, Text and Collaboration: an Examination of the Roles of Joan Littlewood and Theatre Workshop in the Genesis and Production of Brendan Behan's ‘The Hostage’, at the National University of Ireland, Galway, June Favre wrote to Clive praising the article ‘Closing Joan's Book: Some Personal Footnotes’ (NTQ, May 2003). As a result of that first letter, Clive and June began a correspondence – exchanging questions, notes, published and unpublished material, with a final email to June dated 4 March 2005, less than two weeks before his death on 17 March. Clive had accepted the position of external examiner for the thesis with the viva voce to take place 10 May 2005 in Galway – a city Clive had never visited. An email sent on 21 February 2005 informed June that Clive was looking forward to ‘seeing the sun go down on Galway Bay’. His sudden death deprived him of that pleasure. Concluding the ‘Acknowledgments’ of the thesis, June wrote: ‘Above all my heartfelt gratitude for the dozens of emails, letters, and articles Clive Barker shared with me. He promptly supplied information on Joan Littlewood and the productions of Brendan Behan plays from first-hand experience.’ There follow some of the informative and humorous exchanges between Clive and June, who was awarded her doctoral degree later in 2005.

Abstract:
A low-power 1Kb phase change random access memory (PCRAM) chip is designed. The chip uses 1T1R (one transistor one resistor) structure and titanium nitride (TiN) bottom electrode (BE) for reducing power consumption. Besides, the write property of the chip is improved by employing a ramp down pulse generator. The chip is fabricated in 130nm CMOS standard technology. The test result shows a 56% power reduction based on TiN BE compared with tungsten (W) BE, which predicts a new direction to realize the commercialization of PCRAM.

Abstract:
In the pulp magazine period (1926-1946), science fiction’s publishing practices excluded female authors from the burgeoning genre. Using a network analysis of over 2,400 authors and 14,000 stories, this article demonstrates that women’s publication numbers in science fiction went down over the pulp period. Women, unlike their male colleagues, were published in ways that made it nearly impossible to gain economic stability and prestige in the pulps. The consolidation of sf into a marketing genre thus came at the expense of a female sf community who troubled the purity of a newly exclusive field.

Abstract:
This study aims to describe students' mathematical problem-solving abilities based on mathematical dispositions at Riyadlul Mukhlishien Middle School. This type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects used were 21 students of class VIII A. The data sources of this research are in the form of questionnaires, test descriptions and interviews. The results of the questionnaire were used to classify the level of students' mathematical dispositions. After that, two students from each category of mathematical disposition were selected to be the subject of tests and interviews. The results of tests and interviews of mathematical problem-solving abilities were analyzed based on the mathematical disposition of the students. The results of this study indicate that the mathematical disposition of SMP Riyadlul Mukhlishien students is divided into three categories, high, medium and low. Students who have mathematical problem-solving abilities in the high mathematical disposition category are able to meet the indicators of mathematical problem-solving abilities well and write them down completely. Students who have mathematical problem-solving abilities in the moderate mathematical disposition category are able to meet the indicators of mathematical problem-solving abilities but do not write them down completely. Students who have mathematical problem-solving abilities in the low mathematical disposition category are less able to meet the indicators of mathematical problem-solving abilities because they do not write them down completely and still experience errors in calculations
