Abstract:

Cette thèse est dédiée à l'étude de la coexistence de phases dans un régime où la température s'approche du point critique. Pour le modèle d'Ising en dimension deux nous établissons, dans ce régime, un principe de grandes déviations (PGD) duquel nous déduisons l'apparition d'un cristal de Wulff parfaitement rond. Nous étudions aussi le modèle d'Ising soumis à un champ magnétique inhomogène. Lorsque ce champ représente les niveaux de gris d'une image, nous montrons que les configurations de spines se concentrent près des solutions d'une version simplifiée de la fonctionnelle de Mumford-Shah. Dans le premier chapitre nous établissons des estimées de blocs pour la percolation FK sur-critique en dimension deux. Ces estimées nous permettent d'implémenter des arguments de renormalisation en dimension deux dès que le paramètre est au-dessus du point dual du seuil de décroissance exponentielle des connections. Le deuxième chapitre est consacré à l'analyse du cristal de Wulff lorsque la température s'approche du point critique. Nous établissons un PGD dont la fonction de taux est le périmètre isotrope, le système devient ainsi invariant par rotation. Le lien avec le problème de segmentation d'images s'obtient du PGD précédent en soumettant le modèle d'Ising à un champ magnétique inhomogène construit à partir de la fonction représentant les niveaux de gris de l'image à segmenter. Dans le dernier chapitre nous étudions la tension de surface du modèle d'Ising en dimension deux. Nous montrons que la tension de surface devient invariante par rotation lorsque la température s'approche du point critique
This thesis is dedicated to the study of phase coexistence in a regime where the temperature approaches the critical point. For the Ising model in dimension two we establish in this regime a large deviation principle (LDP) that proves the apparition of a perfectly round Wulff droplet. Then we study the Ising model submitted to an inhomogeneous magnetic field. When this magnetic field represents the gray levels of a picture, we show that the spin configurations concentrates near the solutions of a simplified version of the Mumford-Shah functional whose surface energy term is rotation invariant. In the first chapter we establish estimates for block events in the context of the 2d supercritical random cluster model. These estimates permit the use of block renormalization techniques as soon as the percolation parameter is above the dual point of the exponential decay of connectivity threshold. The second chapter contains the study of the Wulff crystal when the temperature approaches the critical point. We establish a LDP whose rate function is the isotropic perimeter. The system thus becomes rotation invariant. The link with image segmentation is obtained from the previous LDP by perturbing the Ising model with an inhomogeneous magnetic field. In the last chapter we study the surface tension of the 2d Ising model when the temperature approaches the critical point. Using explicit calculations, we establish that the surface tension becomes rotation invariant near the critical point

Abstract:

La presente Tesis Doctoral constituye en una investigación interdisciplinaria, tanto fundamental como aplicada, de los óxidos ternarios complejos: BaMoO4, CaMoO4, ZnMoO4, ZnMoO4:Eu3+, BaWO4, BaW1-xMoxO4 (x=0.25,0.50,0.75), CaZrO3 y CaZrO3:Eu3+. Para obtener los resultados se utilizó un enfoque teórico y experimental, para caracterizar y discutir las estructuras, propiedades electrónicas y ópticas (“band gap” y emisiones de fotoluminiscencia) de los materiales. El aspecto fundamental de la Tesis Doctoral es el concepto de morfología en particular como obtenerla teóricamente usando la construcción de Wulff, y se ha demostrado cómo los métodos y técnicas de la química teórica y computacional se pueden utilizar para comprender las propiedades físicas y químicas de estos materiales para buscar un diseño racional de los mismos. Los métodos teóricos y las simulaciones computacionales se basaron en la Teoría del Funcional de la Densidad y funcional hibrido B3LYP utilizando el programa CRYSTAL
The present doctoral thesis constitutes an interdisciplinary research, both fundamental and applied, of the complex ternary oxides: BaMoO4, CaMoO4, ZnMoO4, ZnMoO4:Eu3+, BaWO4, BaW1-xMoxO4 (x=0.25,0.50,0.75), CaZrO3 y CaZrO3:Eu3+. To obtain the results, a theoretical and experimental approach was used to characterize and discuss the structures, electronic and optical properties ("band gap" and photoluminescence emissions) of the materials. The fundamental aspect of the doctoral thesis is the concept of morphology in particular how to obtain it theoretically using Wulff's construction, and it has been demonstrated how the methods and techniques of theoretical and computational chemistry can be used to understand the physical and chemical properties of these materials to look for a rational design of them. Theoretical methods and computational simulations were based on the Density Functional Theory and functional hybrid B3LYP using the CRYSTAL program.

Abstract:

Metal hydrides are promising candidates for H2 storage, but high stability and poor kinetics are the important challenges which have to be solved for vehicular applications. Most of recent experimental reports for improving thermodynamics of metal hydrides have been focused on lowering reaction enthalpies of a metal hydride by mixing other compounds. However, finding out metal hydride mixtures satisfying favorable thermodynamics among a large number of possible metal hydride mixtures is inefficient and thus a systematic approach is required for an efficient and rigorous solution. Our approaches introduced in this thesis allow a systematic screening of promising metal hydrides or their mixtures from all possible metal hydrides and their mixtures. Our approaches basically suggest two directions for improving metal hydride thermodynamics. First, our calculations for examining the relation between the particle size of simple metal hydrides and thermodynamics of their decomposition reactions provide that the relation would depend on the total surface energy difference between a metal and its hydride form. It ultimately suggests that we will be able to screen metal hydride nanoparticles having favorable thermodynamics from all possible metal hydrides by examining the total surface differences. Second, more importantly, we suggest that our thermodynamic calculations combined with the grand canonical linear programming method and updated database efficiently and rigorously screen potential promising bulk metal hydrides and their mixtures from a large collection of possible combinations. The screened promising metal hydrides and their mixtures can release H2 via single step or multi step. Our additional free energy calculations for a few selected promising single step reactions and their metastable paths show that we can identify the most stable free energy paths for any selected reactant mixtures. In this thesis, we also demonstrate that a total free energy minimization method can predict the possible evolution of impurity other than H2 for several specified mixtures. However, it is not ready to predict reaction thermodynamics from a large number of compounds.

Abstract:

The purpose of this thesis has been to identify and analyze waste and ergonomic risk factors in a manual order picking and packing line and subsequently present measures to eliminate waste and ergonomic risk factors. The presented measures aim to reduce waste and ergonomic risk factors in the order picking and packing line whilst at the same time contribute to better working conditions. This has been done through a case study at Wulff Supplies where data was gathered by studies on site, including interviews and observations. Also, a review of literature and other studies done in the field of order picking and packing process. The effect of the proposed measures has previously been researched in other contexts and has been proven to be effective in reducing waste and ergonomic risk factors. The study aimed to identify waste and ergonomic risk factors in order picking and packing to eliminate these by defining measures and recommending these. Manual order picking and packing can, when implementing the proposed measures aid to eliminate waste and ergonomic risk factors. The thesis highlights how measures interact with one another when implemented in order picking and packing. Furthermore, these measures eliminate both waste and ergonomic risk factors at the same time and therefore, these measures should be prioritized in an implementation. At last the thesis provides insight on how a successful implementation of the proposed measures could be formulated for eliminating both waste and ergonomic risk factors.

Abstract:

Cette thèse porte sur le modèle d'Ising dilué, dans la région de transition de phase. Le modèle d'Ising est un modèle classique de la mécanique statistique ; il a la particularité de présenter deux phases distinctes à basse température, ce qui a motivé, entre autres, son utilisation pour l'étude rigoureuse de la coexistence de phases. Notre objectif était d'étendre la description du phénomène de coexistence de phases au cas du milieu aléatoire, c'est-à-dire au modèle d'Ising dilué, lorsque la température et la dilution sont suffisamment faibles pour que deux phases d'aimantation opposées apparaissent.

La thèse comporte quatre chapitres. Dans un premier chapitre, nous adaptons les travaux de Pisztora au cas du milieu aléatoire et établissons une procédure de renormalisation compatible avec la dilution. Dans un second chapitre, nous étudions en détail la tension superficielle de ce modèle, pour la mesure de Gibbs correspondant à un milieu fixé, et pour la mesure moyennée. Nous caractérisons la limite à basse température de chacune de ces quantités et décrivons les formes des cristaux correspondants. Nous montrons que les déviations inférieures de la tension superficielle ont un coût surfacique et donnons une borne inférieure sur la fonction de taux à l'aide de méthodes de concentration de la mesure. Dans un troisième chapitre, nous décrivons le phénomène de coexistence de phases, sous la mesure Gibbs et sous la mesure moyennée. Dans un quatrième et dernier chapitre, nous concluons la thèse avec une application à la dynamique de Glauber, et montrons que l'autocorrélation décroît au plus vite comme une puissance inverse du temps.
