Abstract:

North Africa has a poorly and unevenly known hoverfly fauna. Xanthogramma Schiner, 1861 (Syrphinae, Syrphini) is represented in this territory by some scattered records of four species, Xanthogramma dives (Rondani, 1857), Xanthogramma evanescens Becker & Stein, 1913 (endemic to North Africa), Xanthogramma marginale (Loew, 1854), and Xanthogramma pedissequum (Harris, 1776). Abstract:

A new species of the sharpshooter genus Juliaca Melichar, 1926, J. nigra sp. nov., from Southeastern Brazil (State of Espírito Santo) is described based on specimens collected on a coffee plantation. In addition, J. sertigerula (Jacobi, 1905), an Andean species, and Tettigonia xanthogramma Signoret, 1854, from Southeastern Brazil (states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro), are redescribed. The former species was not adequately illustrated and the latter was not treated in the most recent monograph on the Cicadellini. We present a genome assembly from an individual male Xanthogramma pedissequum (Arthropoda; Insecta; Diptera; Syrphidae). The genome sequence is 977 megabases in span. The majority of the assembly (95.94%) is scaffolded into six chromosomal pseudomolecules, with the X and Y sex chromosomes assembled.

Two species of the hoverflies, <em>Chalcosyrphus eunotus</em> (Loew, 1873) and <em>Xanthogramma dives</em> (Rondani, 1857), were collected in Moscow Region and recorded from Russia for the first time. <em>Platycheirus jaerensis</em> Nielsen, 1971 was confirmed for Russian fauna. A summarized distributions and diagnosis of P. jaerensis and X. dives are provided.

Abstract Five species of hoverflies of the subfamilies Pipizinae and Syrphinae: Pipiza accola Violovitsh, 1985, Platycheirus nielseni Vockeroth, 1990, P. occultus Goeldlin, Maibach and Speight, 1990, Epistrophe olgae Mutin, 1990, and Xanthogramma laetum (Fabricius, 1794) are recorded from Ukraine for the first time. Distributions of these species are summarized and diagnoses of the species are provided.

The chrysomelid genus Bohumiljania Monrós, 1958, is revised, with nine species, seven new: B. aoupinie sp. nov., B. caledonica (Jolivet, 1957), B. lafoa sp. nov., B. humboldti Jolivet, Verma & Mille, 2005, B. mandjelia sp nov., B. tango sp. nov., B. xanthogramma sp. nov., B. xaracuu sp. nov., B. yuaga sp. nov. All species are described. The type species, B. caledonica, is shown to have been misidentified in recent literature.
