Abstract:
Zhengguan yujing jiang 《貞觀玉鏡將》, a book compiled in Western Xia characters during the reign of Zhao Qianshun趙乾順 (嵬名乾順, r. 1086-1139) in the early 12thcentury on the art of military strategy and tactics, was discovered by a Russian in 1908. This provides scholars a valuable original source to carry out in-depth study on the military confrontation between Western Xia and the Northern Song Dynasty. Since the establishment of the Western Xia, there were long lasting internal disputes on their policies towards the Northern Song Dynasty. War or peace not only determined by their military power, their outcomes of political and economic reforms also played important roles. Different kinds of military strategy and tactics had been attempted but not much success had been secured. Zhengguan yujing jiang will be used as the primary resource in this thesis in order to find out the picture behind the screen. Special attentions will be focus on the modification and improvement of military system, military law and military strategy.
published_or_final_version
Chinese Historical Studies
Master
Master of Arts

Abstract:
Ever since the curriculum reform was launched, 'Reading to Learn' has been one of the four key tasks initiated. The result shown in Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS,2011) reflected that the reading ability of Hong Kong Primary students is among the best in the world, whereas their reading motivation ranking the last. Researchers also found in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA, 2009) conducted among secondary students that their metacognitive level is the lowest among all the secondary students in South-east Asian districts. It reflected that Hong Kong students lack self-regulation and comprehension monitoring awareness in reading. This dissertation is written in support of an action research and a case study. It aims to discuss the impact on the implementation of teaching of reading strategies on four different primary students, who are of diverse ability on comprehension. In the action research, the researcher tries to enhance students' comprehension monitoring awareness through introducing the K-W-L Chart and Directed Reading and Thinking Activity. In the case study, the researcher makes use of think aloud activities and student interviews to collect and analyze the qualitative data obtained. Together with the quantitative analysis, the researcher studies the reading strategies used among the four selected primary 4 students as well as their understanding toward reading strategies before and after they received the teaching in the process. The research result reflects that teaching reading strategies has a significant effect on enhancing student's reading comprehension monitoring awareness among students, especially the lower ability students. Furthermore, this research makes a few practical suggestions on how to enhance students' reading comprehension awareness in daily teaching.
published_or_final_version
Education
Master
Master of Education

Abstract:
碩士
嘉南藥理大學
儒學研究所
106
Though Xiao Jing contains the least words compared with the thirteen classics of Confucian, it has tremendous impact on thousand- year- long Chinese culture and evolution of politics. Xiao Jing, which is the epitome of filial piety, was highly promoted and respected by the authority and emperors from Western Han Dynasty. Even the first appearance of Xiao Jing was long time ago, and the perspectives of politics, culture and family differ from nowadays, the content and profound meanings inside this masterpiece won’t be faded as time flies. As a result, the thesis analyzes and induces the thinking of filial piety and the spirit of the classic, hoping to apply to the modern daily life to improve the problems of family education, and make the functions of family outstand, and contribute to the stable development of society. The thesis can be divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introduction, which introduces research motivation, research purpose and research method. The second chapter sorts the authors, background of the book appearance, versions, and points of view of Xiao Jing in contextual organization to realize the importance of this classic. The third chapter describes the depth and implementation of modern family education to clarify the definition, depth, importance, development, and the facing difficulties of family education. The forth chapter analyzes and elaborates the inspiration Xiao Jing has on modern family education. The results includes passive filial piety- self cultivation, active filial piety- service to ( grand) parents, and the authority should practice what he preaches to advocate policies relating to filial piety. Finally, the fifth chapter concludes and positively consider filial piety in Xiao Jing to be the core value of personal life and inspiration and correction of human and culture, which serves as the positive function of stabilizing the development of society.

Abstract:
碩士
國立中央大學
中國文學系
101
The “Xiao Jing Zheng Zhu Shu” is a comment book of the “Xiao Jing Zheng Zhu” written by Pi Xi‐rui,a scholar in the late Qing Dynasty. Pi Xi‐rui first made a simple sketch to the “Xiao Jing Zheng Zhu”and then clarified some problems in the introduction of the book such like who the author is, when the book was written and which point of view of the classics was used to accomplish the book. Although he explained them with lots of citations, we can still find the personal stance of Pi Xi‐rui through them. The book “Xiao Jing Zheng Zhu” was spread before the popularity of the comment book written by the emperor Xuan which we can see today. Its deeply explanations and the comments about the ritual study and the meaning of the classics are acclaimed by lots of scholars. However, there are still some pities such as parts of the book were lost and the author of the book was unknown. They have been accomplished with the book and still have no decisions and explanations. Pi Xi‐rui wrote the “Xiao Jing Zheng Zhu Shu” in order to restore the original image of the “Xiao Jing Zheng Zhu” and worked hard on the argument that the author of the “Xiao Jing Zheng Zhu” is Zheng Xuan definitely and he also used some citations to explain it. In the process of commenting, not only the textual researches, but the research of the text interpretation and the meaning of the classics can show the textual research skills of his own and the unique viewpoint of the modern literary classics researcher. We can even find Pi Xi-rui’s high praise to Zheng Xuan and his effort of carrying forward the research of Zheng’s. In respect of the significance of academic history, the “Xiao Jing Zheng Zhu Shu” of Pi Xi‐rui not only reviewed the value of “Xiao Jing Zheng Zhu” and elucidated articles and the meaning of the classics, but also praised the researches of Zheng’s and commented on the Zheng’s words. In addition to those, we can still learn the focus to the classics of the modern literary classics researcher in the late Qing dynasty and the way Pi Xi‐rui put it into practice from his stance while commenting.

Full text
Abstract:
碩士
淡江大學
中國文學系碩士班
95
This article attempts to, basing on the historical backgrounds of the times, Xiao Qian’s worldview, personality, and brilliance of writing, analyze the shifts in his literary thinking and creation. The author divides Xiao Qian’s creation courses into three stages. Through the reading of the novel Under the Eaves, a representative work of his first stage, the author finds that Xiao Qian was affected deeply by his miserable childhood experience, and Jing-Pai bookmen’s creating viewpoint, especially Shen Cong-wen. At this stage, the miserable childhood experiences made him face the ruthless of life, but, on the same time, Jing-Pai bookmen’s aesthetics made him keep an implied writing style and glorify the roughscuffs’ bucolic spirit as well. He described the cruel reality in an implied strain, and reached his novel’s highest achievements. Chestnuts is the representative work of Xiao Qian’s second stage. At this stage, with the influence of historical backgrounds and Ba Jin, he turned to write novels about politics and society. Through the reading of his antichristian novels and the patriotic novels, describing the student movements mainly, the author finds his hate to Christianity and resentment to the rich, which originated from his growing-up process. At this stage, Xiao Qian’s works was actually a mixture of personal feeling of gratitude or resentment and national sentiments and enmities. At the third stage, he backed to the sentimental writing style. After a series works of the patriotic and political novels, Xiao Qian’s several autobiographic novel drew lots of attractions. The subject matter in The Low Eaves and Setting of the Sun seems like similar to the one in Under the Eaves, but the emotions expressed in those works are not implied anymore. Instead, Xiao Qian kept his blistering and precipitous mood which were shown in Chestnuts in the works during the third stage, toke an avenging writing stile, and disclosed his conscious of dichotomy of good and evil. While The Valley of Dream is highly appreciated by the scholars for its rich poetry, it exposed Xiao Qian’s self-centered consciousness. It seemed to be very hard for Xiao Qian to avoid the tragedy to get himself into his own world, accordingly he decided to end up his novel-writing career and to devote himself to the write news reports regarding battlefield affair, which audaciously preach slogans and seemed to suit Xiao Qian’s innocent.

Abstract:
碩士
國立臺南藝術大學
民族音樂學研究所
99
“Jiou-Yin-Jhen-Jing"is the solo creation made by Chen Chung-sheng, commissioned by National Orchestra, for the “Siao-Ao-Jiang-Hu” concert event on September 16, 2006. Teacher Chen at September 26, 2008 at the National Concert Hall "Siao-Sheng-Jhen-Wu-Lin" Xiao solo concert on the occasion, also personally perform this piece. The circumstances of two concerts perform with the martial arts theme, the warrior inside Jin Yong's novels, martial arts, weapons and so the story into a musical show. Xiao, an ancient musical instrument in China, is with long history, quiet and elegant, suitable for solo and ensemble. The playing skills and Di-zi are quite similar. However, early days instruments are not sensitive, it’s not easy to play the characteristics skills. Improved in recent years the production of Xiao, it began to break the previous play only for a long, quiet, lyrical melody, expressing quiet, elegant feeling. To perform, it starts the playing skills with the Di-zi class in line at the same time and by its special Changing tone to express profound mood music. "Jiou-Yin-Jhen-Jing" could be both G Xiao solo pieces and the major G Di-zi solo. Observing the music composed by Chen, not only retains the Di-zi and Xiao’s music playing features methods, but also joined the Western flute playing skills. Especially in the this piece, it shows more about the alternating with fast fingering, forming the very active music group sections. Through the quick link from the streamlined sound spit tunes, and its use of techniques. On the Di-zi, the combination of Xiao music of the air blowing features enrich the life of rhyme meaning; on the Xiao, the difficult way of playing break through the stereotype of the audience on the Xiao. In this article, we research the Di-zi and the Xiao work in the background of the evolution of Taiwan's development history about the musical techniques of both revealed in the aesthetic point of view and cultural identity. Full text
Abstract:
碩士
東吳大學
歷史學系
100
Liang Wu Di reigned nearly 50 years (502-549). During his time, Southern Dynasty achieved the prosperity in the areas of culture, military, and politics. However, the Jiangnan economy got declined due to the HouJing Rebellion in the end of the dynasty. The nobility who have been occupied the political resources of the Southern Dynasty were attacked seriously. The troubled times not only reshaped the Liang territory, but also revealed the opportunity for the North and the South to be once reunited. After Yongjia Rebellion, family-based and geographic-based nobilities moved to the south to ward off the disaster. The local nobles who moved to the south earlier hold all the political resources and occupied the senior positions in the central government, and they suppressed other families to become inferior nobilities. It is the next best thing for the families, who moved to the south later, to put their efforts on consolidating the forces of residency. On one hand, they try to build up their strength by recruiting the displaced people who went to the south in hope of warding off disasters. On the other hand, they try to collaborate with local officials, such as the Royals who governed the state or the ambitious Generals with different surnames. These local notables served the Southern Dynasties through contributing the powerful armed forces in exchange for their family to be promoted into higher social status, and they thus became the backbone of the Southern regime. These local notables profoundly influenced the Southern Dynasties as in the events of the local rebellion or the royalty fighting for the kingship. In contrast, the Liang Dynasty did not have rebellions rose in by Generals with different surnames or local nobles. There was no rebellion led by royals under the policy of Princes in Garrisons. If Houjing Rebellion had not hastened the decline of the Liang Dynasty, Emperor Jianwen Xiao Gang could ascend the throne. Then the fate of the Liang Dynasty would still remain unknown. Hence, this article will focus on the relationship between Liang Wu Di and the local nobilities and his strategy of local personnel arrangements. Chapter 2 and 3 will discuss the issue from local nobilities’ point of view. Chapter 2 will introduce the development of nobility in Jing and nobility in Yu in Liang Dynasty, including the analysis of governor designated and infrastructure. Chapter 3 discusses the political identity of nobility Yu, who could choose to surrender to the Northern Wei or others. Also, this chapter will review the local nobilities in Yu Zhou, who kept low and cautious because under suspicion from others. In order to fight against the invasion and harassment from Northern Wei, Liang Wu Di needed the help from nobility Yu. At the end of the day, Jia Hou clans allied with HouJing and rebelled in Jiangnan. Chapter 4 will lead a discussion, considering Princes in Garrisons as the primary condition for local managements in Jing Zhou, Yong Zhou and YuZhou, whether the nominations for Ci Shi, Chang Shi were made appropriately while Liang Wu Di faced the revolt of local forces, the Northern governor and the Southern governor. By reviewing the development of the three nobilities and the interactions between these three with Liang Wu Di, this study will discuss whether the conflict and dubiousness between central and local had help stabilize the local serenity in Liang Dynasty; and whether this series of actions had an impact on later development in Liang Dynasty.

Huang, Shiou-Jr, and 黃綉枝. "A study on the Xiangsu and Yili of “Twelve Xiao Xi Gua” by Meng Xi and Jing Fang." Thesis, 2012. http://ndltd.ncl.edu.tw/handle/budd5a.

Full text
Abstract:
碩士
明道大學
中國文學學系(碩士班)
100
A study on the Xiangsu and Yili of “Twelve Xiao Xi Gua” by Meng Xi and Jing Fang Abstract Meng Xi (90-40 BC) and Jing Fang (77-37BC) were the two representative masters of the Book of Changes during the Han Dynasty, who applied “Gua Qi theory” (卦氣說, a theory describing the correspondence between the hexagrams and 24 Chinese seasonal division points) to explain the ideas in the Book of Changes, and employed this classic to explain the alternation of Yin/Yang and disaster/fortune. This period was categorized by subsequent scholars as the development of Xiangsu (象數in English; it means image and number, and is an approach to interpret the symbols of change (gua) that makes extensive use of the structural properties of the symbols). Twelve Xiao Xi Gua (十二消息卦represents 12 Months in a Year or 12 Double-Hours in a Day), one of the main concepts of “Gua Qi theory,” was adopted in the study as the basis upon which to investigate Xiangsu and Yili (義理in English; it means meanings and interpretations, an approach to the interpretation of the symbols of change, often contrasted with Xiangsu, which emphasizes the moral and ethical dimensions of the text), as the philosophical essence of the Book of Changes consists of these two elements. In the article, “Discussion on the studies of the Book of Changes,” Huang Shou-qi stated, “[…] in regard to the studies of Xiangsu and Yili, numerous schools of thought had been developed. Therefore, in the study of the Book of Changes, one should explore the “Book of Changes in the Han Dynasty” by examining the “Book of Changes in Han Dynasty,” which is also true to the “Book of Changes in Song Dynasty” (In other words, understanding directly through the body of the texts rather than through the commentary). As for studying the “Book of Changes in the Han Dynasty,” one who studies the schools of thought of Meng Xi and Jing Fang should try to understand their thoughts by exploring their explanations. Such a practice should also be followed by those who study the schools of thought of Zheng Yuan and Yu Fang. […] In regard to the other various schools of thoughts, according to the teaching of one’s teacher-master, he/she carefully collects all the works, corrects the fallacies, and develops the truth in order to restore the original meaning of that school of thought.” As a response to the ideas proposed by Huang, this study took the Pre-Qin Period and early Han Dynasty as the research background in order to further understand the academic succession of Meng Xi and Jing Fang and their later creation of Gua Qi. Nevertheless, the Book of Changes in the Han Dynasty is an ancient classic. Most of the explanations and instructions by Meng and Jing on the examples of the Book of Changes are lost and Meng’s Commentary on the Book of Changes and Jing’s Commentary on the Book of Changes, compiled by later generations, also cannot fully represent the writings of these two masters. Accordingly, coupled with Jiao Shi Yi Lin, Yi Zhuan, “Yi Zhuan • Yao Chapter” in the form of a silk book, the Yi Han Xue written by Hui Dong, and the studies of the Book of Changes by Jiao Xun, this study refers to Meng Xi Zhang Ju, Jing Fan Zhang Ju, Yi Wei, and Xin Tang Sh • Seng Yi Xing Gua Yi to investigate the origin of the school of thought, and further explore the Xiangsu and Yili of the “Twelve Xiao Xi Gua” in Gua Qi theory, in the hope that the academic and life application value of “Twelve Xiao Xi Gua” can be discovered. This study is divided into three parts; first, “era features” and “academic succession” the characteristics, content, examples and authors of the “Gua Qi theory” of the Xiangsu of the Book of Changes in the Han Dynasty are investigated; second, the examples of the “Twelve Xiao Xi Gua” of Gua Qi theory are adopted to investigate the concepts of Xiangsu and Yili, the essence of the Book of Changes, the influence on the social life of later generations and later studies of the Book of Changes, etc.; and third, the influence of Twelve Xiao Xi Gua on later studies of the Book of Changes and the practical value it generates to life are explicated in the conclusion, to delve into the commentaries on the Book of Changes as well as the contributions of the study to agricultural life, architecture and Fengshui theory, aesthetics, Chinese medicine, and health regimen, etc. Keywords: Meng Xi, Jing Fang, “Book of Changes” in Han Dynasty, Xiangsu, Yili, Twelve Xiao Xi Gua, Alternation of Yin/Yang and disaster/fortune

Full text
Abstract:
博士
國立臺灣師範大學
國文學系
100
Jing-ming Zhong-xiao Quan-shu is the most significant classic of Yuan Dynasty Jing-ming sect. By doing a deep research on the thoughts of Liu Yu’s and Huang Yuan-Ji’s yulus, the writer is able to understand the philosophy and thoughts of the Taoist classic and to manifest the early doctrine of Yuan Dynasty Jing-ming sect, which is established with “Syncretizing Confucian and Taoism” as its core. The writer discusses four themes, including firstly, Tao and yu zhou sheng cheng, secondly, qi and tian ren gan ying, thirdly, xin and gong fu jing jie, and lastly, xian and jiao fa ge xin. The content contains various theories of Yuan Dynasty Jing-ming sect, and the writer hopes to have all-round comprehension of the thoughts that show in Jing-ming Zhong-xiao Quan-shu. The meaning of “Tao” in Yuan Dynasty Jing-ming sect comes from the Taoist traditional “Wu”, especially valuing the experience of “Tao” and the importance of combining with “Tao”. Liu Yu combines many different cosmologies and points out the specific doctrine belonging to Jing-ming sect. He uses “wu shang qing xu, zhong huang ba ji, and ren xin dan jiong” to establish a relation for tian and ren to contact and respond to each other. He further creates a new theology, converts the old tradition, and combines cosmology and Taoist theology to form a cosmology with vivid religious meanings. As for the meaning of “qi”, “da jun yuan qi” is the most primitive origin to form all living things. It combines special yin yang theories to become the zun yang bei yin model and uses gan zhao theories to combine the purpose of quan shan. In the model, the whole universe is a complete body where tian and ren respond to each other. Yuan Dynasty Jing-ming sect develops its theology through the model. With the concept of “tian xin yin ke”, it advises that people connect tian xin with their sincerest hearts. In the aspect of cultivation theory, Yuan Dynasty Jing-ming sect especially values the concept of “cheng”, emphasizing the combination with “Tao” by cultivating one’s mind and practicing morality to revert to the originally clear and bright “xin”. Integrating Confucian moralism, it connects morality cultivation with shen xian theory in which people can become shen xian if their morality cultivated. In the aspect of theory innovation, Yuan Dynasty Jing-ming sect changes the method of xiu lian and the definition of shen xian, simplifies the ceremony, and creates a new theology. When Integrating Confucian, it shows its priority. The innovation of these theories helps Jing-ming sect to present its vivid innovation among the sects. It also promotes the sect’s development in theories and makes the sect unique and significant. The thoughts that show in Jing-ming Zhong-xiao Quan-shu represent the early entire thoughts in Yuan Dynasty Jing-ming sect. Such thoughts especially play an important innovative role in Taoism over the whole development of the religion.

Besides, as we discuss it from the literature, we know that visual communication can convey a complete message in society so that we can receive those messages in a short time. And corporate identity is also a part of visual communication, not only representing the complete feelings but also the services that the enterprises want to convey to the consumers. Therefore, corporate identification design is a must-have trend for enterprises. First of all, in this study, a case study analysis was used to analyze the corporate identity design of the three famous bun shops in Changhua County and the buns in convenience stores. After the analysis, the questionnaire survey method was used to investigate the consumer identification of the Chinese restaurant industry, like “How do you feel about the style” and “whether you like it or not? “ At last, it combined with case analysis and questionnaire survey to make the final brand positioning and corporate identity design creation of “Jin-Pin Xiao Long Bao”, and I hope that the final result of this study provides a reference for the future market.

Abstract:
碩士
國立雲林科技大學
文化資產維護系
104
In Taiwan, restoration and conservation of wood carving statues has been the topic of seldom concerning. Moreover, it has been asked to obey international restoration rules as restoring wood carving statues. The traditionally practical thought and technique used by master workers have been denied. However, modern international restoration rules are not global satisfied. Therefore, it should be modified in Taiwan. The master workers would help modify the international restoration rules due to their experience of Taiwan folk. This thesis investigated the restoration of wood carving statue of Kai-Ji Wu-Xian-Da-Di damaged by termites from Ba-Ji-Jing Wu-Di Temple in Tainan. The Ba-Ji-Jing Wu-Di Temple has been established during Kangxi period Tsing dynasty. The restoration using traditionally practical thought and technique is checked with international restoration rules. The difference of restoration methods between practical and academic was also studied. The new tendency and possibility of restoration and conservation of wood carving statues is suggested. From the example of master worker Shi-Wei Chen, the Jin-Tang-Ge boss of Buddha appliance store, the traditionally practical thought and technique, which is in accordance with the so called “Remedial Conservation” ( might change the appearances of cultural relics), is described. The procedure of restoration is described using this example based on two principles: to keep the original function without emphasizing reversible techniques and to maintain the usable strength after the restoration. The traditionally practical thought of master workers of Buddha appliance store could become the complement idea of restoration and conservation of wood carving statues. However, their approach would be affected by their sects. The restoration of tangible cultural heritage should be based on the values and meanings of history, culture and art, but not just based on the unique standard of restoration examination using scientific instruments. The restoration and conservation of the statues of gods in temple and other movable cultural relics should consider the factors of history, belief, and beauty, so the intangible values and meaning of the cultural relics can be handed down forever.

Abstract:
碩士
國立臺灣大學
中國文學研究所
93
In the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the disasters of wars came in a continuous succession. Many literati sought to capture the lifestyle living and some wrote their ideas down in Fu賦 at this time. From “Rhapsody on the Idle Life” (Xian ju fu閒居賦) of Cao Zhi曹植(192-232) in Han and Wei Periods漢魏時期, Xian ju fu閑居賦 of Pan Yue潘岳(247-300) in Western Jin西晉, and Xian ju fu閑居賦 of Yu Chan庾闡(294?-347?) in Eastern Jin東晉, there was a series of works of literature with the theme of living (Ju-zhi 居止). In this master’s thesis, the author analyzes three pieces of Xian ju fu in the following ways: First, the author describes the research method and brief outline. Second, as the basis of the research groundwork, the meanings of Ju-zhi in Ancient China are discussed. Third, the author interprets the selected texts of Xian ju fu one by one. This shows Cao Zhi’s difficult position between coming in and going out, Pan Yue’s central place, and Yu Chan’s mobile super-natural place. Last, the author provides a comprehensive discussion on the intextural relation in the texts, the spring scene, the living including the travelling, and the experience of place among above texts. In conclusion, the author distinguishes Xian ju from Jing ju靜居and Yin ju隱居. These three kinds of living styles in Xian ju fu are also described in the sixth chapter. Furthermore, the appearance of Xian ju written by literati in the Wei and Jin Dynasties will be re-valued.
