Full textGain IT Architecture & Solutions AB (refereras till som Gain IT) är ett litet
Huskvarnabaserat IT-företag. De är verksamma inom de tre affärsområdena
produkt, konsult och service. Inom produktområdet sker försäljning av
programvaror och deras egenutvecklade webbapplikationer. På konsultsidan
erbjuder Gain IT bl.a. utveckling av webbapplikationer. Serviceområdet
inriktas bl.a. på support- och helpdesk-tjänster för företag men även support
och utbildning för egna applikationer.
Gain IT har under en tid planerat att utveckla någon form av webbapplikation
för att hantera information i projekt. Den ska kunna hantera olika aktiviteter
som kopplas till ett specifikt projekt. Det finns olika typer av ”kommentarer”
som kan kopplas till varje aktivitet i ett särskilt projekt. Exempel på
kommentartyper är generella systembeskrivningar, anteckningar, beslut och
kontaktuppgifter. Utvecklare, projektledare etc. kan på så sätt koppla viktig
information till projekt under tiden som ett särskilt projekt bedrivs.
Författarens frågeställningar var följande:
· Vad består XML Web Services av?
· Hur utvecklar man en XML Web Service med Visual Basic 2005 och
.NET Framework 2.0?
Författarens mål var att utveckla en webbapplikation för informationshantering
i projekt. Den skulle kunna hantera olika typer av kommentarer som kopplas
till projekt och aktiviteter. Webbapplikationen skulle också byggas med tanke
på “service-oriented architecture”, vilket innebär att information ska kunna
vara åtkomlig från fler system än bara webbapplikationen.
Allteftersom författaren utvecklade projekthanteringsystemet fick han bra
synpunkter och ideèr till förslag till förbättringar, avseende webbapplikationen,
från personer på utvecklingsavdelningen.
Examensarbetet har utmynnat i en välfungerande webbapplikation för
hantering av information i projekt. Både författaren och uppdragsgivaren är
nöjda med resultatet.
Författaren anser även att projekthanteringsystemet kan förbättras ännu mer i
framtiden och att ny funktionalitet kan adderas enklare mycket tack vare
teknologierna XML, XSD, XSL och Web Service men även pga. god
programmeringsteknik har använts.
Gain IT Architecture & Solutions (referred to as Gain IT) is a small ITcompany
based in Huskvarna. Gain IT:s business areas include products,
consulting and support. Within the product area they are selling software and
also their own customized web applications. The consulting area offers
development of custom web applications. The Support area concentrate on
support and helpdesk services for third party companies and for their own
custom made web applications.
Gain IT had plans to begin developing a web application to manage
information relating to different projects. The web application was supposed to
manage different activities belonging to a specific project. In a given activity
there can be different types of information making up that activity.
These pieces of information, called commenttypes, can for example be general
system descriptions, notes, decisions and contacts. Developers and project
managers can then keep track of progress made in different activities when a
specific project is performing.
The purpose of the report is to answer two main questions:
· What does XML Web Services consist of?
· How to develop an XML Web Service with Visual Basic 2005 and
.NET Framework 2.0?
The author’s goal was to develop a web application to manage information in
projects. It was supposed to manage different types of comments relating to
projects and activities. The web application was also supposed to be built with
service oriented architecture in mind. Information is then more easily accessed
and shared between different systems.
Ideas and suggestions were made from different people on the development
team, relating to aspects of the web application, while developing it.
The author’s work has led to a well working web application to manage
information relating to projects. Both the author and Gain IT are pleased with
the result.
The author’s personal opinion is that the web application can be improved even
more in the future. New functionality can be added to the system more easily
much thanks to XML, XSD, XSL and Web Services but also because good
programming techniques have been used.

Full textIntegration av data hör till ett av de största problemen inom datakommunikationen, särskilt då det gäller data från olika system. Därför utvecklades det under 70- och 80-talet ”Standard Generalized Markup Language" (SGML). Tanken med SGML från början var att den skulle underlätta informationsutbytet och skapa mer strukturerade dokument. Problemet med SGML, är att det är oerhört komplext och svåranvänt. Därför ville World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) utveckla ett språk, som både var kraftfullt och lätt att använda. Språket kallades Extensible Markup Language (XML). XML fick de bästa bitarna från SGML och Hypertext Markup Language(HTML).
Syftet med uppsatsen är att fånga upp kunskap om hur XML fungerar och vilka för- respektive nackdelarna är med XML. Aspekter som det fokuseras på är användbarhet och eventuella fördelar gentemot befintliga lösningar. Vidare tar den upp vad som krävs för att XML ska bli en utbredd standard.
Uppsatsen använder sig utav en kombination av litteraturstudier, Internet-studie, intervju och en praktisk tillämpning. Detta för att ge mer kunskap om vad XML är och vilka tillämpningsområden som finns.
Resultatet från undersökningen visar att det inte är många företag i Jönköpingstrakten som känner till XML. Förhoppningsvis kommer detta att ändras med tiden och det verkar finnas tendenser att allt fler programvarufröretag har börjat erbjuda stöd för XML i sina produkter. Några av de förutsättningar som respondenterna nämnde, för att XML ska slå igenom på allvar som standard, var att det faktiskt var tvunget att vara bättre än befintliga lösningar, att marknadsföring krävs, att det efterfrågas av kunder och att det stödjer befintliga system.
Framtiden för XML handlar egentligen bara på en sak, att företrädare för de stora företagen enar sig om en standard och att denna i sin tur vinner majoritet hos programvaruföretagen.

Full textNesta dissertação a linguagem DMPML é proposta como alternativa para a padronização da fase de preparação de dados em um processo de KDD. A DMPML é baseada em XML e utiliza transformações XSL para transformar dados. Devido às características da linguagem XML tais como extensibilidade, robustez e independência de plataforma, projetos de preparação de dados gerados com a utilização da DMPML podem ser compartilhados de forma eficiente através da Internet, promovendo o reuso de trabalho e a troca de experiência entre projetos semelhantes. Outros benefícios da aplicabilidade da DMPML são: (a) não necessidade de utilização de banco de dados relacionais para armazenar informações geradas pelas subfases de tratamento de dados; (b) não necessidade de implementação de código especial para transformar dados brutos em dados prontos para aplicação em um algoritmo específico de mineração de dados; (c) possibilidade de criação de regras específicas de transformação de dados para algoritmos específicos de mineração de dados sem necessariamente ser preciso redefinir o projeto de preparação de dados e (d) grande potencialidade de reutilização de projetos de preparação de dados entre massas de dados com atributos semelhantes

Full textI rapporten undersöks vilka möjligheter användarberoende vyer av XML-data kan ge i webbmiljö. Undersökningen omfattar dels att ta reda på vad en användare vill ha möjlighet att kunna visa eller påverka i en dynamisk vy, och dels vilka av dessa egenskaper som kan uppnås med hjälp av stilmallar i XSL. Med dynamiska vyer skall det gå lättare att förändra och skapa rapporter som passar den enskilde användarens behov, det vill säga en mer lättläst och överskådlig version. Vad som framkommer av rapporten är vilka egenskaper som en användare vill ha i en dynamisk vy. Ett antal existensbevis i form av exempel visar också vilka av dessa som går att lösa. Som komplement framställdes en enkel prototyp som hanterar dynamiska vyer.

Full textThe Internet has presented an increasing development during the last five years. The accessible documents are published under the HTML format. This type of publication does not separate the structure of the document from its content. The extensible meta-language XML has defined a well structured format that responds to the new technologies requirements, like the management and the presentation of Web documents. XML has became an international norm and it presents a promised technology for managing and communicating informations. The Internet community represented by the W3C consortium has proposed in 1999 a new extensible stylesheet language XSL. This language has two parts: the language XSL-FO to formatting documents against their presentation and the second part consists of the XSLT language that has been built for XML document transformations. We are interesting in this thesis by the transformation part of the XSL language XSLT is a transformation language that is more simple than classical programming languages. It has considerable computation power. .

Full textAs traditional data acquisition systems give way to network-based data acquisition systems a new approach to instrumentation configuration, management and analysis is required. Today, most flight test programs are supported by traditional instrumentation systems and software. Pockets of network-based systems exist but are typically entirely new, closed systems. Relatively soon, test articles will emerge with a mixture of equipment. The merger of traditional and networked instrumentation is inevitable. Bridging the gap in software tools is a non-trivial task. Network-based data acquisition systems provide expanded flexibility and capabilities well beyond traditional systems. Yet pre-existing equipment requires traditional configuration and analysis tools. Traditional flight test software alone cannot fully exploit the added benefits gained from such mergers. The need exists for a new type of flight test software that handles existing instrumentation while also providing additional features to manage a network of devices. Network management is new to flight test software but a thoughtful implementation can facilitate easy transition to these modern systems. This paper explores the technologies required to satisfy traditional system configuration as well as the less understood aspects of network management and analysis. Examples of software that meet or exceed these requirements are provided.

Full textHigh volume print jobs are getting more common due to the growing demand for personalized documents. In this context, VDP (Variable Data Printing) has become a useful tool for mar- keters who need to customize messages for each customer in promotion materials or marketing campaigns. VDP allows the creation of documents based on a template with variable and static portions. The rendering engine must be capable of transforming the variable portion into a resulting composed format, or PDL (Page Description Language) such as PDF (Portable Do- cument Format), PS (PostScript) or SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). The amount of variable content in a document is dependant on the publication layout. In addition, the features and the amount of the content to be rendered may vary according to the data loaded from the database. Therefore, the rendering process is invoked repeatedly and it can quickly become a bottleneck, especially in a production environment, compromising the entire document generation. In this scenario, high performance techniques appear to be an interesting alternative to increase the rendering phase throughput. This paper introduces a portable and scalable parallel solution for the Apache's rendering tool FOP (Formatting Objects Processor) which is used to render variable content expressed in XSL-FO (eXtensible Stylesheet Language-Formatting Objects).
Grandes volumes de trabalho para impressão são cada vez mais comuns devido ao aumento da demanda por documentos personalizados. Neste contexto, Impressão de Dados Variáveis (Variable Data Printing - VDP) tornou-se uma ferramenta muito útil para profissionais de marketing que necessitam personalizar mensagens para cada cliente em materiais promocionais e campanhas de publicidade. VDP permite a criação de documentos baseados em um modelo (template) contendo partes estáticas e variáveis. A ferramenta de renderização deve ser capaz de transformar a parte variável em um formato composto, ou PDL (Page Description Language) tais como PDF (Portable Document Format), PS (PostScript) ou SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). A quantidade de conteúdo variável em um documentoé totalmente dependente do modelo (layout) da publicação definido por um profissional da área. Além disso, o conteúdo variável a ser renderizado pode variar de acordo com os dados lidos do banco de dados. Desta forma, este processoé chamado repetidamente e pode tornar-se facilmente um gargalo, especialmente em um ambiente de produção comprometendo inteiramente a geração de um documento. Neste cenário, técnicas de alto desempenho aparecem como uma interessante alternativa para aumentar o rendimento da fase de renderização. Este trabalho introduz uma solução paralela portável e escalável para a ferramenta de renderização chamada FOP (Formatting Objects Processor), a qual é usada para renderizar o conteúdo variável expresso em linguagem XSL-FO (eXtensible Stylesheet Language-Formatting Obects).

Full textDetta examensarbete analyserar huruvida en användare behöver medverka när ett XSLT-skript, med syfte att transformera textfilsdatabaser till XML-dokument, genereras. XSLT-skripten skapas med hjälp av en XSD-fil och en textfilsdatabas samt att användaren mappar dessa värden till XML-dokumentet för att bygga XML-dokumentets struktur. För att utvärdera detta har en prototyp tagits fram som en ”proof-of-concept”. Prototypsystemet visar att en transformering från en textfilsdatabas till ett XML-dokument med hjälp av en XSD-fil inte går att automatgenerera fullt ut. Det medför att en användare måste göra en mappningen mellan textfilsdatabasen till XML-dokumentet. Nyttan av prototypen är att en användare aldrig behöver förstå XSLT-skriptning utan behöver bara mappa värderna i en grafisk miljö som sedan genererar XSLT-skriptet

Allt eftersom kraven ökat på mer avancerade applikationer över Internet har det förekommit kritik mot att HTML inte räcker till, vilket är en av anledningarna till att ett nytt märkningsspråk som heter XML växt fram. I det här arbetet redogör vi för, alltifrån grunderna i XML till mer avancerade delar som DTD, XML-schema och XSLT.
XML kombinerar HTML:s enkelhet med SGML:s möjligheter. En av XML:s främsta styrkor är att det kan användas för att lagra all typ av data, utan att man behöver ta någon hänsyn till hur den senare ska presenteras. Innehåll och presentation är helt separerade. En annan viktig egenskap är att XML-dokument lagras som vanliga textfiler, vilket innebär att XML är system- och plattformsoberoende.
I denna uppsats utgår vi från två mål, dels att tillämpa XML för att skapa ett lämpligt lagringsformat för konfigurationsdata till en nätverksemulator, och dels att redogöra för XML. För att emulera förhållanden som finns i ett riktigt nätverk kan t ex bitfel,
paketförluster, bandbreddsbegränsning och fördröjning emuleras. Inställningar av önskad frekvens av paketförluster, bitfel o s v är exempel på konfigurationsdata. Då vi redogör för XML återkopplar vi till, och beskriver tillämpningen stegvis. På så sätt får läsaren en god inblick i hur XML fungerar.
Abstract
HTML is not powerful enough to handle the increasing demands on Internet applications of today, which is one of the reasons to why a new markup language called XML has been introduced. In this report we describe the basics as well as more advanced parts of XML like DTD, XML Schema and XSLT.
XML combines the simplicity of HTML and the possibilties of SGML. One of the premier strengths of XML is that it may be used to store any type of data without any considerations to how it will be presented later. The content and the presentation are separated completely. Another important property is that XML documents are stored as
ordinary text files, which means that XML is system and platform independent.
In this report our aim consists of two goals. One goal is to create a suitable format for storing configuration data using XML. The configuration data is to be used by a network emulator. In order to emulate the conditions present in a real network the emulator is
capable of emulating things as bit errors, packet losses, bandwidth limitation and delay, all of which are examples of configuration data. The other goal is to describe the basics as well as more advanced parts of XML in general. As we describe XML, we continuously show how we apply this knowledge to our application. In this way, the reader achieves a good insight into how XML works.

Full textA research of master‘s final work is data migration between information systems. The aim of this work is to mirgate client data from old information system to new one. Data migration methodologies in this work are thoroughly analyzed. Most popular data migration methodologies are analyzed, by introducing their advantages and drawbacks and how they should be applied in data migration process. Data migration tool example is also analyzed in this work. Software tool, that was implemented in UAB „Exigen Services Lietuva“ organization, is analized in this master`s work. This data loading tool is using XML for information transfer between export tool and data loader. Data loader also has its specification, that is also described in this job. Thesis structure consists of 5 parts: data migration methodology, data migration phases and problems, data migration process, data migration implementation, data migration tool specification. Thesis consists of 63 pages of text without extras, 25 pictures, 2 table and 11 bibliographical entries.

Full textMany engineers express frustration with the multitude of vendor specific tools required to describe measurements and configure data acquisition systems. In general, tools are incompatible between vendors, forcing the engineer to enter the same or similar data multiple times. With the emergence of XML technologies, user centric data modeling for the flight test community is now possible. With this new class of technology, a vendor neutral, standard language to define measurements and configure systems may finally be realized. However, the allure of such a universal language can easily become too abstract, making it untenable for hardware configuration and resulting in a low vendor adoption rate. Conversely, a language that caters too much to vendor specific configuration will defeat its purpose. Achieving this careful balance is not trivial, but is possible. Doing so will produce a useful standard without putting it out of the reach of equipment vendors. This paper discusses the concept, merits, and possible solutions for a standard measurement metadata model. Practical solutions using XML and related technologies are discussed.

Full textNos últimos anos, com o crescimento dos sistemas de informação, metadados tornaram-se peças chave no gerenciamento de todo o ciclo de vida desses sistemas. Muitos esforços recentes, tanto das áreas acadêmicas quanto da indústria, estão sendo concentrados em pesquisas relacionadas a metadados. Esses estudos tentam definir metodologias e padrões para construção e interoperabilidade de sistemas de informação baseados em metadados. Atualmente, metadados são utilizados em diversas áreas, como Data Warehouse, bibliotecas eletrônicas, engenharia de software e integração de aplicações heterogêneas. Com o advento da internet, novas aplicações surgem, juntamente com novos padrões para representação. Esses padrões incluem XML (Extensible Markup Language), DTD (Document Type Definition), XML Schema, RDF (Resource Description Framework), RDF Schema, XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation), entre outros. Cada padrão foi desenvolvido para determinados tipos de aplicação. Por exemplo, DTD e XML Schema são padrões para descrição de estruturas de dados, RDF é utilizado para descrição de recursos como páginas Web enquanto que XSLT é utilizado na transformação de documentos XML. A especificação de metadados, aliada à sua gerência eficiente, são os grandes desafios de um ambiente de construção de um Data warehouse. Este trabalho tem como objetivo a construção de uma solução de metadados para o ambiente REDIRIS (Research Environment on Data Integration, Reuse and Quality in Information Systems). O REDIRIS propõe auxiliar os usuários nas tarefas de análise, modelagem, construção e reuso de solução de Data warehouse. O módulo de metadados será responsável por gerenciar toda a informação necessária para a funcionalidade e gerenciamento do ambiente. Para isto, foram projetados e implementados vários metamodelos baseados nos padrões, citados anteriormente. Foi utilizado o MOF (Meta Object Facility) para a construção dos metamodelos e JMI (Java Metadata Interface) para a implementação dos mesmos. As vantagens deste tipo de abordagem são um conjunto de interfaces comuns para gerenciamento dos metadados representados em qualquer padrão (XML, DTD, RDF) e um formato único para intercâmbio desses metadados, o XMI (XML Metadata Interchange)

Apesar da importância desses e de outros padrões de metadados internacionalmente aceitos, existem sistemas de gerenciamento de bibliotecas que utilizam padrões de metadados próprios, o que reduz as possibilidades de intercâmbio de registros e pode ocasionar conflitos durante a migração entre sistemas. Diante dos sistemas de gerenciamento de bibliotecas que não utilizam qualquer padrão de metadados internacionalmente aceito, tem-se como problema a conversão dos registros desses sistemas em registros nos Formatos MARC 21. Para que possam ser processados, os registros nos Formatos MARC 21 devem estar codificados de forma que seu conteúdo possa ser identificado por aplicações de informática. As tecnologias para essa codificação têm evoluído da tradicional norma ISO 2709 até a Extensible Markup Language (XML). A codificação com a XML trouxe a possibilidade de converter os registros utilizando folhas de estilo de transformação elaboradas com a linguagem Extensible Stylesheet Language for Transformation (XSLT). Considerando a necessidade de converter registros para os Formatos MARC 21 e as possibilidades trazidas pela XML, o objetivo geral desta pesquisa é elaborar um modelo para a conversão de registros de distintos padrões de metadados codificados com a XML em registros nos Formatos MARC 21, tendo como um dos pontos centrais desse modelo a utilização de folhas de estilo de transformação elaboradas com a XSLT. Para esse objetivo, é realizada uma revisão de literatura sobre a conversão de registros, os Formatos MARC 21, a ISO 2709, a XML, a XSLT e o MARCXML. São destacados os principais aspectos da utilização da XML na codificação de documentos e as possibilidades oferecidas pela XSLT. Para discutir a relação entre os Formatos MARC 21 e a XML é apresentada a linguagem de marcação MARCXML. A partir do estudo teórico, é elaborado um modelo para a conversão de registros. São descritas as etapas e os componentes do modelo, assim como sua validação por meio da aplicação na conversão de registros bibliográficos exportados pelo sistema de gerenciamento de bibliotecas Personal Home Library (PHL). Como considerações finais, são destacadas as características do modelo e são sumarizadas algumas questões sobre sua utilização e sobre os instrumentos resultantes de sua aplicação na conversão de registros do PHL.
