Rivals, Aurore. Thesis, Paris 4, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010PA040121/document.
Full textThis thesis is about the Hungarian composer Peter Eötvös’ first five operas: Trois Sœurs, Le Balcon, Angels in America, Lady Sarashina and Love and Other Demons, which were created between 1998 and 2008. Through the filter of Michel Foucault’s thinking developed in his work L’archéologie du savoir, the issue consists in determining to what extent(s) the five operas, considered in their rarity as five singular entities, form however one and the same series. The answer to this issue is in three parts. The first part applies to the composer coming across literary sources, which directs the librettos’ elaboration and motivates the work on Russian, French and English languages. The second part is devoted to the musical/operatic characterisation of the characters, to the narrative treatment within the five operas and the interpreter’s part, which is closely connected to lyrical works’ destiny. Finally, the third part intends to present the five worlds of the five operas as they slip from one into the other, as heritages of a recontextualized musical past, and as intimate and collective revolutions obeying one single aim, or more precisely one single duty: the one memory has to hand down life

Full textLiterary theory and statistics may seem far removed from one another, but their combination makes it possible to propose a singular point of view in the field of literature. This research has been conceived in the light of the possibilities offered by such an approach, which is likely to provide a response to a literary curiosity about the extreme contemporaneity observed in France. The object of study is the young adult imaginary literature, which, in France, shows clear-cut degrees of success depending on the origin of its published titles: on the one hand, translated Anglo-American books with exponential popularity; on the other, French books whose most popular representatives are nonetheless far less popular than their contemporaries. And if certain external influencing factors can logically be determined, what about those that may be in action within the text itself? The heart of this research will be to interrogate, detect and even predict these possible textual reasons from a statistical angle, without however ignoring external ones, which will also be examined in order to best measure the weight of the influences at book. In other words, to use the double modality of the title of this research, an objective that can be translated in the form of the following problematization: “Can the successes of young adult imaginary literature in France be, to some extent, explained and predicted on the basis of textual material?”.This approach, at the crossroads of the exact sciences and literary theory, made possible by an analytical approach based on typologies and models conceptualized through a combination of approaches in structuralism, narratology and textometry, aims to measure and verify the characteristics of success external to the text through the prism of statistics; but above all, proposes to examine textual phenomena in a quantifiable form, and detect those at by in action within the fiction itself and to mirror them according to the commercial success that the books have enjoyed

Full textFrom a transdisciplinary approach at the crossroads of sociology, anthropology, history and philosophy, this research, in a first instance, considers how the family, everyday playground of a dialectic mesh between the same and the other, can be the privileged substrate of an “imaginary of the bond”. In the light of this hypothesis, and through the social criticism, this thesis interrogates the intersections between family bond (exhibited on stage), social bond (projected on it) and theatrical bond (which structures the dramaturgy and defines a specific theatricalness), during two timeframes particularly intricate on a socio-political standpoint: the last military dictatorship and the post-dictatorship. On the crossroads of theatrical studies and social sciences, this research explores political and social issues while bringing to the forefront the dramaturgical analysis of the corpus
