Abstract:

In Khalil, Yasmina Khadra paints a realistic portrait of a terrorist. This novel written in 2018 and developed from a real fact, blurs the spaces of reality and fiction to reveal the apparently unavowable thoughts of a jihadist. It is this detour strategy that this article will seek to clarify. It will be a question of studying how Yasmina Khadra organizes a scrambling of these two worlds, the fictional space and the realistic space, located at the edge of each other, to make them interact, confront each other but also to question.

Abstract:
Abstract Yasmina Reza’s “Art” has been widely acclaimed ever since it opened in Paris in 1994: the different productions which have followed the French original in more than 40 countries have enjoyed equal success. This success, both among audiences and critics, may be attributed to the play’s universal themes, to the tone and richness of its dialogue and to the good acting most productions have displayed. But the fact that the play has been appreciated in so many different countries and languages inevitably implies that translation is also at the centre of its success. This paper analyses two translations of “Art” – Christopher Hampton’s English text and Josep M. Flotats’s version into Spanish –, which, despite having a similar aim, i.e., making the play function on stage, have followed different translation strategies to make it work in their different target contexts.

Abstract:
There is no doubt regarding the influence exercized by the work of Emile Cioran upon Yasmina Reza´s fictional texts. Not only some of her theater characters are inspired in the figure of Cioran, but both writers share a similar worldview and analogous obsessions that flourish in their writings. In this manner, we do perceive in them a kind of aggressiveness that turns against themselves seasoned with frivolity and humor. In the speeches and monologues of Reza´s characters we can identify ideas that are repeated endlessly in Cioran´s aphorisms. Both authors turn reflection into pleasure towards excess, as if they were unable to contain themselves. From this perspective, we can better understand ideas such as their rejection from the notion of happiness for being considered a desire vulgar and childish, and the apology for barbarism as the only way to be reborn again. Abstract:
Abstract Violence and its devastating effects challenge writers more than ever. Based on the novel L’Attentat [The Attack] (Julliard, 2005), by the Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra, this paper aims to demonstrate that the writing of violence is both the consequence and the mirror of today’s world convulsions. The analytical approach is focused on the functions of this type of writing, the various forms of violence and their problematic aspects, as well as on the relation of a discourse explaining terrorism with a humanist pacifist discourse, as it appears in the novel.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Our current article talks about the geocritical analysis of the spaces of the anonymous city and the sea argued by the two Algerian authors: Mohamed Dib through his novel Cours sur la rive sauvage and Yasmina Khadra in L'Olympe des infortunes. These two writers highlight the binary dynamics of the anonymous city and the sea. The fusion of these two spaces creates mirages revealing the intermingling of their writings and their society. This textual hybridization reveals a harmful criticism of the metropolis and the era of globalization.
