Abstract:
Trial were conducted at 5 farms, on 5 breeds of pigs in itch farm, in a period from 2000 to 2010. To analyzed data, the MME LS model was used to correct FYS and Breed as fixed effect and Sire as random one. Genetic parameters were estimated from half siblings group. Bones had significantly smaller weight in Pietrain pigs compared to all other breeds. Furthermore, daily and life gains at the Pietrain breed were significantly smaller compared to other breeds. Heritability estimates were significantly different for three breeds, higher for bones, higher for meat yield. The pheneotipic and genetic variations were similar for all traits. Economic effect of selection can be analyzed and expected with a positive trend. Genetic correlation showed expected trend. It is possible to use the effect of indirect selection as well.

Abstract:
The objective of the study was to optimize the conditions in a culture medium for the selenium yeild enriched by Saccharomyces sp. III using Plackett-Burman design and Box-Behnken design. The Plackett-Burman multifactorial design was first employed to screen the significant factors in the fermentation for the selenium yeild, and subsequent use of the response surface methodology was further optimized for the selenium yeild by Box-Behnken design. The important factors in the culture medium, identified by the initial screening method of Placket-Burman, were sodium selenite, glucose and the liquid volume. The optimal amounts for maximum selenium yeild were: sodium selenite 15.8 mg/L; glucose 40.2 g/L; the liquid volume 120 mL in 250 mL flask. Using this statistical experimental design, the selenium yeild under optimal condition reached about 1679.32 μg selenium /g dry cell.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction: The addition of R to dose-dense chemotherapy CHOP and to high-dose chemotherapy seems to improve the outcome of advanced stage DLBCL. Patients and methods: From August 2000 to September 2006, 120 previously untreated patients (pts) <61 years affected by aggressive DLBCL were enrolled into 12 GIMURELL centers. Inclusion criteria were: advanced stage II, III-IV with age-adjusted (aa)-IPI score 2–3 or BM involvement (any aa-IPI score), viral markers negativity. Treatment plan consisted in a dose-dense chemoimmunotherapy R-MegaCEOP (R 375 mg/m2 d1, CTX 1200 mg/m2 + EPI 110 mg/m2 + VCR 1.4 mg/m2 d3 and PDN 40 mg/m2 dd3–7) every 14 days with G-CSF support for 4 courses; pts in CR or PR received two courses of intensified chemotherapy R-MAD (Mitoxantrone 8 mg/m2 + ARA-C 2000 mg/m2/12h + Dexamethasone 4 mg/m2/12h dd1–3 and R 375 mg/m2 d4 and before peripheral blood stem cell harvest as in vivo purging) followed by ASCT with BEAM as conditioning regimen ± IF-RT. All pts received antibacterial and antifungal prophylaxis throughout the whole treatment. In pts with BM and/or CNS risk involvement, 4 IT-MTX 15 mg were planned as intrathecal prophylaxis. Results: All 120 pts were evaluable: median age 47 years (19–60); 65 males and 55 females; 6% were at Low-Intermediate, 52% at Intermediate-High and 42% at High risk according to aa-IPI score; PS ≥2 65%, 27% BM involvement, 48% bulky disease, 80% LDH >normal and stage II/III/IV 8/19/73% respectively. Complete response at the end of treatment was achieved in 98 pts (82%), PR in 5 (4%), 12 (10%) did not respond and 5 (4%) died of toxicity. IF-RT was performed as consolidation of bulky disease or residual disease on 36% of pts. With a median follow-up of 42 months, 4-yr FFS and 4-yr OS rates were: 77% and 80%. In 101 pts (84%), PBSC yeald was good, with a median of 9.7 × 106 cells CD34/kg (range 2.5–56.3). Nineteen pts (16%) were not autografted: 5 because of inadequate PBSC yield, 9 of progression disease and 5 of toxicity. All 101 pts who underwent ASCT achieved a complete hematological engraftment with a median of 9 days (3–27) to neutrophil counts >0.5 × 109/L and a median of 14 days (1–72) to a self-sustaining platelet count >50 × 109/L. Transfusional support was: platelets and red-cell package respectively in 8% and 24% of pts during 4 R-MegaCEOP, 92% and 70% during 2 R-MAD and 96% and 74% during BEAM consolidation. Few severe toxicities (WHO grade 3–4) were reported; most frequent (12%) were infection and mucositis during R-MAD and BEAM phase. Five patients died of toxicity due to: E.coli sepsis in 2 pts respectively after R-MegaCEOP and R-MAD, one of sepsis ndd after R-MAD, one of Staphilococcus pneumonia after R-MAD and one of P.aeruginosa pneumonia after BEAM regimen. There are no secondary MDS or ANLL or solid tumour. Conclusions: This study suggests that Rituximab as adjuvant to dose-dense and high dose chemotherapy with ASCT support is effective and safe in high risk DLBCL.

Abstract:
Different sources of dietary fibre (defined here as non-starch polysaccharides, NSP) are hydrolysed to varying degrees in the GI tract of pigs. Unlike starch, NSP cannot be digested to its monomeric constituents by mammalian enzymes, but instead must be fermented by the gut microflora, to yeild volatile fatty acids (VFA). These VFA, like the glucose derived from the digestion of starch, are subsequently absorbed and metabolised to yeild ATP, but with a lower efficiency than glucose. Clearly, therefore, knowledge of the relative amounts of products of fermentation and digestion which are absorbed, will enable the nutritive value of a feed to be described more accurately. We report the time course of absorption of glucose, VFA, lactate, and α-amino N from semi-purified diets containing two contrasting sources of NSP, wheatstraw (WS) and sugar beet pulp (SBP), by growing pigs.

Abstract:
Macrofaunal community structure was examined in a shallow sublittoral sea grass bed (Zostera marina L.) and adjacent unvegetated sediment in the River Yealm, Devon, south-west Britain, on a single sampling occasion in August 1995. The presence of Zostera had a significant influence on macrobenthic community structure in the River Yealm. Samples from inside the sea grass bed were characterized by significantly higher numbers of individuals and species, as well as by greater species richness and high faunal dominance (i.e. low evenness) compared with the unvegetated samples. High faunal dominance within the sea grass bed was attributable to the large numbers of a few species (e.g. the polychaetes juvenile capitellids, Spio filicornis, Exogone hebes, Nereis pelagica and the tanaidacean Apseudes talpa), while increased species richness was a result of a large number of additional rare (1–2 individuals) species. The greatest number of individuals was found in samples with the highest sea grass biomass. Multivariate ordination revealed a distinct separation of macrofauna communities from vegetated and unvegetated sites. Significance testing with ANOSIM shows that there were significant differences in community structure between vegetated and unvegetated habitats.

Abstract:

Goal is to develop new method utilizing satellite data for assessment of damage in paddy field which can contribute toward substantial reduction of the damage assessment time and costs in framework of agricultural insurance. For the damage assessment, estimation of yield in each paddy plot is a key, so the research on the estimation of rice yeild was carried out using satellite data in Hokkaido, Japan. Both multiple linear regression analysis and the projection pursuit regression analysis were conducted for the estimation of yeild using data from 3 different satellites about 3 different rice varieties. As the result, the projection pursuit regression analysis showed smaller value of predictive error than that of the multiple linear regression analysis, and the lowest predictive error was indicated when SPOT5 data with 10 m resolution was used. Moreover, for reducing the predictive error, it was found that a yield estimation formula should be created for each of different rice varieties. The results out of this research suggest that satellite data can be effectively used for estimation of yield and also assessment of damage at lower costs to calculate indemnity in agricultural insurance.

Abstract:
The phase out of methyl bromide has precipitated a need to reduce usage of the all purpose fumigant. Reduction in methyl bromide use can extend the life of existing stocks and make it more likely to continue critical use exemption for future production. Traditional widths for plastic mulch covered beds in Georgia ranges from 32 to 36 inches. By reducing bed top widths, it could be possible to reduce the amount of methyl bromide applied by as much as 60%. The objectives of this work were to evaluate the effects of narrower bed tops and lower rates of methyl bromide on pepper and cantaloupe growth and yield. Bed top widths of 36, 30, and 24 inches were each tested with broadcast rates of 400 and 300 lb/acre of both 67:33 and 50:50 methyl bromide-chloropicrin at Tifton, GA in the fall of 2005. Bed widths were the main plot and methyl bromide rates the sub plot. Plots were 20 feet long with two rows of pepper planted per bed with 12 inches between plants and one row of cantaloupe planted per bed with two feet between plants. All beds were on 6-ft centers and fertilizer rates were constant across plots within a crop. There were four replications. Otherwise normal cultural practices were employed. Crops were harvested at maturity and data collected on yield and plant growth. Pepper yields were depressed by early cold weather. The 24-inch bed tops produced significantly lower yields of extra large, large and total fruit, but had greater top dry weight and root fresh weight than the 36-inch beds. There were no differences found among methyl bromide rates for cantaloupe or for pepper except extra large fruit were greater at the highest rate compared to the lowest. There were no differences among bed top widths for cantaloupe yield or plant growth.

The influence of different fractions of planting material (large, medium and small) and the density of standing plants on the yield capacity of garlic bulbs has been studied. It has been found out that the highest average yield capacity is formed from the large fractions of cloves at a lower density. A large fraction of planting material of the cloves forms a larger number of roots. The density of standing plants is less influential than the size of the fraction. Key words: winter garlic, fraction of planting material, plant stand density, yield capacity, number of roots.

It were evaluated 25 genotypes in experimental design was a randomized block design with three replications. We evaluated the following agronomic traits: plant height, fresh mass, percentage of stem, leaves and panicles, dry mass, Brix, yield of juice and sugar. The F-test was used to check for genetic variability among genotypes. Phenotypic correlations among these traits were estimated, which are deployed through the path analysis, in direct and indirect effects, considering the yield sugar as the primary dependent variable. We observed that 92% of the variation in sugar yield was explained by the explanatory variables, value higher than in other studies and appropriate to explore the gains with indirect selection in sweet sorghum. The indirect selection based on Brix trait is the most effective way to obtain genetic progress in the sugar yield in sorghum genotypes.

Abstract:
Udder circumference (UD) and distance between teats (DBT) measured before and after milking were used to determine CUC (UC before milking minus UC after milking) and CDT (DBT before milking minus DBT after milking). All four parameters were utilized as independent variables in two milk yeild from 202 weekly records of 17 lactating does, consisting of 8 West African Dwarf (WAD) and 9 Red sokoto (RS) goats. WAD and RS goats hadsimilar mean values for daily milk yield ( 270.34±12.47 ml vs 245.26±14.51 ml) and UC(28.49±0.33 vs 28.49± 0.13 cm). Both models had significant ( P<0.001) R2 values ranging from 0.244 to 0.757. UC was the best index of milk yeild (R2=0.688) followed by CUC (R2=0.467) in the linear regressionequation while DBT and CDT yeilded lower R2 Values (0.244 vs 0.258). Inclusion of all four parameters in the multiple linear regression equation yeilded the highest R2 (0.757). The predictive equation was Y= 441.443 + 25.739X1 + 23.349-21.265X2 +61.080X4 in which Y is milk yeilded, Xi , X4 represent UC, CUC, DBT and CDT respectively. Positive and significant (P<0.001) phenotypic correlations were observed between UCand milk yeilded (0.759), CUC and milk yeilded (0.690). DBT and milk yield (0.498), CDT and milk yield(0.508). In the current practice of collecting collecting weekly records, early prediction of future milk production from udder circumference measured prior to milking will be accurate using linear regression predictive equation. Alternatively, if more traits related to udder size such as UC, CUC,DBT and CDT are incorporated as independent variables in multiple linear regression equation, milk production would be predicted with better accuracy.

Abstract:
Cyclic internal pressure tests were conducted over several hundreds of cycles at pressures up to and in excess of the calculated proof test pressure on two nominally ‘identical’, stainless steel type 316 flush 90 degrees pressure vessel nozzles, designed and manufactured to BS 5500. Prior to this pressure cycling, one vessel was subjected to the required proof test of 1.25 times the design pressure. Significant incremental straining was recorded in the non-proof tested vessel during cycling at all pressures above the first yeild pressure (0.336 × design pressure). For the proof tested vessel significant incremental straining was not recorded during cycling until 15 percent above the design pressure.

In this paper, two different layers of Huadian oil shale were selected. In the basic of oil shale density, moisture and oil yeild, and electrical physical properties of oil shale are researched by theoretical, experimental and comparative analysis. The experiments showed that under room temperature, the oil shale does not have a conductivity, but when the temperature increases, the ions are activated, so the ions has a higher energy to break through to the energy dam limits. Therefore, with the temperature increases, the conductivity of oil shale is getting better. And it has another three factors impact the conductivity: the higher temperature, the greater moisture content, and the less oil content.

Abstract:
Directly conversion of CO2 to propanol using C2H4 and H2 had succeeded over Au/SiO2 catalyst in one reactor mode. However, application of new dual-reactor concept enhaned the catalytic activity strongly by using two saparated reactors. To this details, a first reactor is used to convert CO2 to CO through the reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction, consecutive hydroformylation of C2H4 with resulting CO and H2 to propanal and finally the hydrogenation of propanal to propanol takes place in a second reactor at a different temperature. The selectivity to oxo products (propanol and propanal) increased from 15% up to 60% while yeild of oxo products improved from 7% to 15% in comparison with the previous publications.

Abstract:
Welding thermal cycle simulation with the heat input of 12~25 kJ/cm and practical welding were undertaken to investigate the weldability of a Zr-Ti microalloyed pipeline steel X120. The microstructure in the simulated coarse-grained heat-affected zone was predominantly bainite. The Vickers hardness and room temperature impact toughness of simulated coarse-grained heat-affected zone is 276~297 (HV10) and 208~225 J, respectively. These results indicated that the X120 steel had good weldability. Practical plate welding with the heat input of 21 kJ/cm also showed that the Zr-Ti microalloyed pipeline steel X120 had high yeild strength (895 MPa) and low temperature (-30°C) impact toughness (183 J, 204 J and 208 J in the fusion line, coarse-grained heat-affected zone and fine-grained heat-affected zone, respectively).

We examined commercial barley cultivars in two sequential growing season by including irrigation and rainfed conditions under a randomized complete block experimental design. There were positive and significant correlations between the yeild and either of the indices including Mean productivity (MP), Stress Tolerance Index (STI), Geometric Mean Productivity (GMP), Harmonic Mean Productivity (HMP), and Mean Relative Performance (MRP) in both irrigated and drought conditions. The PC1 and PC2 justified 94.86 and 94.44% of total variation in the first year and second year, respectively. According to 3-dimensional diagram and based on STI, genotypes 2, 3, and 8 in the first year and gentypes 4, 3, 8, and 2 in the second year were clustered together in group A, and therefore, called the most tolerant cultivars to drought stress.

Abstract:
The fermentative production of carotenoid by Rhodotorula sp.D with the utilization of corn steep liquor were investigated at laboratory scale and then performed for industrial trial. The optimal inputs of waste syrup (glucose) and corn steep liquor of 7% and 33.3% were determined by single factor tests, with the highest carotenoid yeild of 11.7 mg/L and content of 383.6 μg/g (carotenoid/biomass) for 5L fermentation. The same conditions were then carried out in a 1000L fermentor for industrial trial. After 41 h fermentation, there were 31% of crude protein and 180.4 μg/g of carotenoid in the final spray dried products. These results show that as a non-expensive bioresource, corn steep liquor can be utilized for fermentative production of carotenoid, which will increase its potential as functional feed in industrial usage.
