Approximately 25 percent of all green lumber (2 x 4, 2 x 6 and 2 x 8's) are degraded during HTD. Bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) is a serious pathogen of cultivated Lupinus species in Western Australia and elsewhere, causing significant crop losses. Natural resistance genes to BYMV have not been found in lupin germplasm. The main aim of this study was to design and construct binary plasmids that could be used to develop pathogen-derived resistance to BYMV in host plants, including lupins. Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) is an important virus pathogen of lupins in Australia which causes serious yield losses of up to 60% in epidemic years. We developed a mixed model to determine whether biotic (alewife, spottail shiner, round goby, yellow perch > age 1 and yellow perch < age 1 abundances) or abiotic (water temperature, water clarity) factors influenced growth rates in the Indiana waters of Lake Michigan during August from 1984 to 2007. This study suggests that young-of-the-year (YOY) yellow perch growth rates in southern Lake Michigan are influenced by temperature, spottail shiner abundance, and round goby abundance.
