In March 2012, decayed ‘Empire’ apple fruit (Malus × domestica Borkh.) were sampled from apples grown in Albion (Orleans County) in New York State and stored in bins for 6 months under controlled atmosphere at a commercial packinghouse. At the packinghouse following storage prior to be packed, the fruit were completely rotten, spongy to firm, and light brown without pycnidia. Leaves affected by powdery mildew were collected from a Norway maple tree in early October 2007 in Beaver Dam, WI (Dodge County). Diseased leaves were present throughout the crown of this tree, with white mycelium in irregular and often vein-associated spots and often covering as much as 50% of the upper surfaces of leaves. The fish remains, including 104 species from 52 families, collected at the Lee Creek Mine near Aurora, Beaufort County, North Carolina, constitute the largest fossil marine fish assemblages known from the Coastal Plain of the eastern United States. As all commercial factor VIII concentrates in current use have been subjected to some form of virus-inactivation, we wanted to compare their in vitro biochemical characteristics. Of the 10 concentrates studied, inactivation takes the form of dry heat treatment, varying from 60°C for 30 h to 72°C for 68 h, in six products (Octonativ, KabiVitrum; Hemofil T, Hyland; Factorate HP, Armour - heated two different ways; Monoclate, Armour; Nordiocto, Nordisk Gentofte). We have reviewed our own experience (400 patients with documented thromboembolic disease) as well as that recorded in the literature. Impaired fibrinolysis after venous occlusion (VO) was the most common finding in patients with history of thrombosis (35% in our series). In contrast, very few families with such an alteration and thrombosis have been reported, suggesting that this disorder is most frequently acquired.
