Abstract:
Governments and local communities across the world have recognized that key to building prosperity and stimulate regional growth is fostering entrepreneurship among their people especially youth. Youth entrepreneurship has become a topic of interest for research scholars and also a subject of major concern for the Government. While youth entrepreneurship is an under-explored field, the main factor for its growing attention is the increased number of unemployed young people. Furthermore entrepreneurship is seen as a channel for the talents of many highly educated young people to explore their potential and cash their business acumen. By 2015, World Bank estimates that there will be about 3 billion youths less than 25 years old and a big portion of that will be in India. Many young people cannot find employment. This has become particularly acute since the education explosion in early 2000's and onset of the financial crisis in 2008. These outcomes are both inefficient and inequitable. Evidence shows that the unemployed are unhappier, more likely to experience a range of health issues, and face difficulties in integrating back into the labour market place (Bell & Blanchflower, 2009). For young people, the effects of unemployment may be particularly scarring. Evidence suggests that a spell of youth unemployment increases the likelihood of poorer wages and unemployment in later life (Blanchflower & Oswald, 1998). Such outcomes also have pronounced social costs. It represents a loss of potential output and leads to increased costs to the taxpayer apart from causing social disruptions. One potential way of integrating young people into the global economy is to increase youth entrepreneurship1. The objective of this research paper is simple - to understand youth entrepreneurship and its role with focus on Indian scenario.

Youth unemployment is one of the major global challenges for decades to come. While bound up with the overall employment situation, this challenge has its own dimensions and therefore requires specific responses. Abstract:
All over the world there has been an increased interest in entrepreneurship education and the society in general. Kenya was among the first countries in Africa to introduce aspects of entrepreneurship education in its education and training systems. Entrepreneurship and business creation are a growing alternative for young people in different economies whose age group often faces a labor market with double digit unemployment rates. This study seeks to investigate and report on the factors affecting youth entrepreneurship development with specific reference to entrepreneurship education in Kibera, a district of Kenya. Two objectives are identified, namely (i) to determine the government’s provision and access to the entrepreneurship education and training among the Kenyan youth, and (ii) to determine whether there is a relationship between the level of education, training and development of youth entrepreneurship. A sample of three hundred entrepreneurs (aged 18-35) within the Kibera district in Kenya is drawn to participate in this study. Structured survey questionnaires are used to collect primary data from business owners in the Kibera district. Findings revealed a strong positive correlation between the provision of entrepreneurship education and development of youth entrepreneurship and the level of education has a very weak positive correlation to youth entrepreneurship development. This study concludes with recommendations on how youth entrepreneurship can be improved in Kibera and the rest of Kenya. A total of 300 questionnaires were administered via e-mails with a total response rate of 83.3% (250) returned for analysis

Abstract:
Entrepreneurship and business creation are a growing alternative for young people in different economies whose age group often faces a labor market with double digit unemployment rates. Due to low economic growth, traditional career paths and opportunities are disappearing rapidly. In response to these challenges, the government introduced the National Youth Policy (NYP), amongst others, to deal with the challenges facing youth in Kenya. It was through the NYP that the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) was transformed to a state corporation in 2007 as a strategic move toward arresting unemployment among youth in Kenya. This study sought to report on the factors affecting youth entrepreneurship development in Kibera, a district of Kenya. Kibera is a low income, informal settlement in southwest Nairobi (Kenya) with an estimated population of one million housed on less than 2% of the total municipal residential land (or 3,000 people per hectare). A sample of three hundred entrepreneurs (aged 18-35) within the Kibera district, Kenya was drawn to participate in this study. Structured survey questionnaires were used to collect data from young business owners in Kibera. Findings revealed that government policy (NYP) and access to credit have a moderate to strong positive relationship in the development of youth entrepreneurship. Though the positive relationship shows that the Kenyan government is supporting youth entrepreneurship in Kibera, there have been differing views as to whether the programs to support youth are yielding positive results or not. Abstract:
In a job-scarce environment, where unemployment is rife the need for fostering entrepreneurship especially among youth is a prime concern. This is arguably the case in South Africa, where despite a number of government-pioneered interventions, the level of youth entrepreneurship, particularly in township areas remains unsatisfactory. This study takes a two-pronged approach to establish specific factors that are inhibiting youth entrepreneurship development, and determine the prospects of youth entrepreneurship development in Khayelitsha in the Western Cape, South Africa. The data was collected via self-administered questionnaires that were distributed to 132 respondents, which were randomly drawn from a population of 200 youth entrepreneurs registered on the database of a local organisation which promotes and develops entrepreneurship in the Western Cape. The findings revealed, among others, that a major inhibiting factor to entrepreneurship development is the lack of awareness and inaccessibility of youth entrepreneurship support structures and initiatives in this community. Interestingly though, this hindrance does not appear to have a negative bearing on the identified growing enthusiasm of the youth to engage in entrepreneurial activities. Overall, on the basis of the challenges and prospects revealed, recommendations to improve the current situation are made. This study is an applied research effort and its relevance is linked to the fact that it provides rare insight into the state of youth entrepreneurship in a large but under-researched township community in the Western Cape. The findings and recommendations therefore bear far-reaching ramifications for all stakeholders who are concerned about developing youth entrepreneurship in this society.

Abstract:
Youth entrepreneurship is commonly measured as a significant determinant of poverty reduction, economic development and job creation but the participation of the youth in entrepreneurship is worrisome. Against this background, this study aims to evaluate the challenges that are preventing the youth in starting their own businesses. A qualitative research approach was adopted to enable the use of secondary data literature. The research methodology was undertaken by systematically reviewing and contextualizing the literature regarding the challenges preventing the youth from participating in entrepreneurship activities. The data was analyzed using thematic content analysis. The results showed that the lack of education, society’s attitude towards youth entrepreneurship, lack of access to finance and a poor entrepreneurship culture are the barriers that prevent youth from engaging in entrepreneurial activities. A policy implication arising from these findings is that there is a need for entrepreneurship education, better support from society and the provision in terms of the easy access to finance.

Abstract:
Entrepreneurship is well established as a development strategy to facilitate youth empowerment in Africa. Existing scholarship on youth entrepreneurship, while informative, remains limited given its focus on either normative institutional structures or individual decision-making behaviors. Recent research offers a contextualist approach, featuring the dynamic relationship between individual behavior and structural context. Engaging and building upon a contextualist approach, this paper offers a place-based study of youth entrepreneurship in Botswana. The paper documents empirical findings revealing trends in youth circumstances and experiences, namely empowerment potential, financial strain and knowledge/skill gaps. It then explores the cultural, political and institutional contextual effects shaping youth entrepreneurship within the Young Farmers Fund (YFF). Drawing on elements of 'best practice,' the paper offers suggestions for enhancing practical entrepreneurship in Botswana through educational, technical and operational means. Although the paper contributes a case study of youth and entrepreneurship in Botswana, it also offers and demonstrates the conceptual framework of contextualism as a useful research tool for subsequent place-based studies.

The authors examined the importance of integrated tasks of entrepreneurship among young individuals in Kurdistan. The study aimed to evaluate the level of youth understanding of entrepreneurship. The data was collected from 242 youth and the frequencies have been used to measure the weights of the tasks from the youth perspective. The authors found ideas, training, knowledge, competencies, and skills are sufficiently important to youth entrepreneurship success. The study also indicated that young individuals in Kurdistan Region are not aware of the entrepreneurship dimensions as the tasks, but they still found it as an integrated part of entrepreneurship. The lack of creativity, initiative, and innovation among youth is found to be associated with poor quality of youth in identifying opportunities and risk–taking due to the lack of understanding and knowledge as pre–conditions to the business start–up.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to contribute to knowledge and theory building in youth empowerment and entrepreneurship development. Design/methodology/approach This paper critically examines the Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (YouWiN) programme and its relevance as a youth economic empowerment programme through the lens of the UNDP Youth Strategy entry points for promoting economic empowerment of youth and extant literature on critical youth empowerment using participatory development theories. Findings While YouWiN is a significant intervention towards entrepreneurship development, it presents some flaws and limitations in the design and implementation process, which may challenge sustainable economic development. Hence, there is a need to explore the millennials empowerment paradigm in light of three key complementary action-oriented approaches to youth entrepreneurship development. Originality/value This paper proposes three key complementary action-oriented approaches to youth entrepreneurship policy/programme design, implementation and evaluation for the multilateral agencies, private and voluntary sectors. These are in the form of facilitating participatory engagement and diversity, managing drivers (push/pull factors) of entrepreneurship, and ensuring access to enablers/support. There is the need for further debate and critical inputs to improve theory building towards a normative framework in youth empowerment and entrepreneurship. This contributes to ending poverty, and promoting intergenerational equity and sustainable development.

Abstract:
Poverty is one of the supreme challenges in Nigeria. This paper explores entrepreneurship in agriculture as a strategy for a drastic reduction in unemployment and poverty in Nigeria. Agriculture creates employment opportunities to 70% -75% of the Nigerian working population and contributes about 20.9% of Nigeria’s total gross domestic product. Yet, young educated and ambitious Nigerians do not show much interest in agriculture. Currently, Nigerian farmers are elderly, toiling away with outdated techniques and tools. Not only are these old farmers unlikely to use latest technologies that guarantee rewards in agriculture and afford a modern lifestyle. The youth believe that career in agriculture would “condemn” them to a “backwards”, “dirty” lifestyle associated with the elderly “uneducated” farmers currently performing physical arduous backbreaking farm work. Meanwhile, the educated and ambitious youth struggle almost hopelessly to find employment in the few highly esteemed sectors, such as the civil service, banking, engineering, medicine and law. This paper persuades youths to take up a career in the agricultural sector through entrepreneurship activities; the paper tells stories of successful educated young entrepreneurs in agriculture. Some young successful educated and ambitious agri-preneurs are identified and their stories are told. These agri-preneurs are potential role models (i.e., people whose achievements in agricultural entrepreneurship the youths can emulate/imitate). The paper advises youths to start small with simple straightforward projects capable of producing cash rewards in the short-term and to look out for the several government and UN grants opportunities that encourage agropreneurship. Before launching their enterprises, aspiring agri-preneurs are counselled to avail themselves of training and apprentice opportunities from successful agri-preneurs.

Today, youth entrepreneurship is one of the most promising areas for the development of the state’s economy, which is actually the potential for its growth. Scientific and government circles of any state are interested in the development of youth entrepreneurship. The author of this article has considered and sociologically analyzed the problems of the functioning of youth entrepreneurship in Uzbekistan. The article argues that it is precisely the joint actions of the government and academia that can increase entrepreneurial activity among the youth. Youth entrepreneurship is a turbulent social process that has not yet reached a stabilization phase and requires special attention from the government, forming the backbone of the middle class. The development of youth entrepreneurship is a very important social process and science needs, first of all, to trace its internal development, since the integration of the youth group has not been comprehensively studied, and this is a completely new object of social research.

The authors present and discuss significant aspects of youth entrepreneurship in the European Union (EU) and, especially, in higher education institutions in Greece. The structure of this paper is as follows. First, the study introduces a conceptual basis for entrepreneurship as defined in the EU and looks at entrepreneurship in the context of actions taken by the European Council and especially by the European Commission. The significance of entrepreneurship, embedded in substantial economic factors such as growth, development, employment, education and training, etc, and its objectives are then discussed, particularly in relation to students in higher education. Second, the study refers briefly to current policies of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) that could influence the EU's entrepreneurship strategies. Third, the authors assess the status of youth entrepreneurship and its influence on students in the Greek higher education system, applying an empirical methodology. To explore the behaviour and attitudes of HE students towards entrepreneurship, the authors analyse data collected by means of a specially designed questionnaire. The sample selected comprised male and female undergraduate students studying in various disciplines at the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Serres. The results are evaluated and their implications for educational programmes at universities, TEIs, business schools, etc, are considered.

Abstract:
In the proposed article, the author analyzes the main scientific approaches of foreign and domestic researchers for a more complete understanding of the essence and economic role of youth entrepreneurship as an institution that allows using the creative potential of the younger generation in the interests of innovative development of the country. The author defines the concept of “youth entrepreneurship”, characterizes it as a tool that ensures the growth of employment, the involvement of young people in economic activity. Abstract:
Abstract The nature of entrepreneurship for youth is basically identical with the one that has been widely practiced by the adults. Extent literatures suggest that the concept of youth entrepreneurship lies in the social benefit of wealth creation through the application of innovative thinking and execution to meet customer needs, using one’s own labour, time and ideas. Several factors such as age, level of maturity and intellectual differentiation are also considered to differentiate the entrepreneurship pattern in between youth and adult entrepreneurs. Thus, two major points need to be taken into further consideration: how the entrepreneurship is taught and how it is learned. These initiatives will project significant contributions for the youth, not only providing them with sufficient knowledge and skills toward becoming the next world class business actors but also embedding them with moral and business ethics values in the establishment of the natural ethical entrepreneurs. Introduction. The study of the problems of youth entrepreneurship / self-employment is especially relevant, both in terms of social and economic development of Ukraine, and for the implementation of youth policy. This issue is one of the priorities of its development in a number of government policy documents. However, experience shows that today this area is quite problematic and unresolved. An analysis of the literature indicates a lack of publications focusing on youth entrepreneurship in Ukraine. They describe only some aspects of this type of economic activity of young people, which gives only a fragmentary idea of the problems and prospects for the development of youth entrepreneurship. The purpose of the article is a social and legal, managerial analysis of this area, which reflects its real current state of development. Metods. The article uses: general scientific methods of comparison, descriptive method, analysis, generalization and induction, which integrally allow to reflect the objective picture and situations of state assistance in the field of youth entrepreneurship. Results. The conclusion on the situation with youth entrepreneurship / self-employment in Ukraine was supplemented. In particular, it is characterized by the complexity of development due to administrative, legal, financial, organizational problems. The study is also of practical importance for the renewal of managerial, social and legal parameters of social development and for the analysis and promotion of regulatory and youth policy in Ukraine. Discussion. The problem of development of youth entrepreneurship and its solution is characterized by their inherent permanence, which requires constant monitoring of information support and evaluation of state measures to promote it. This, in turn, increases the relevance and urgency of research in this area. PurposeThis paper aims to explore the contextual role of social-cultural capital in youth entrepreneurship between Malaysia and Lao PDR/Laos, comparing two different entrepreneurial ecosystems designed to identify emergent factors that stimulate and/or stifle the genesis of youth entrepreneurship while identifying similar and divergent entrepreneurial identities and traits among young people from these two sovereign contexts.Design/methodology/approachUtilizing qualitative-based case study design approach, data collections were garnered from 30 informants through in-depth personal interviews, focus group studies coupled with personal observation conducted via purposive cum snowball sampling.FindingsThematic analysis reveals a pattern-based outcome that discloses a variety of inter-related factors within the social network ecosystem that stimulate and sometimes stifle youth entrepreneurship, primarily through the active agency of social-cultural capital.Practical implicationsEntrepreneurial ecosystem contextual differences between Malaysia and Laos demonstrate the unifying factor of social-cultural capital through social network in stimulating youth entrepreneurship and unveiling practical similarities and differences that can be used to promote youth entrepreneurial endeavors among varying sovereign socio-economic contexts in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Countries).Originality/valueThis study specifically focuses on the unambiguous contextual differences of two sovereign entrepreneurship ecosystems. Contextual differences may not necessarily demarcate further the gulf of differences within and between two sovereign entrepreneurship ecosystems but, on the contrary, may close the gap through the dynamic role of social-cultural capital via social network ties in youth entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
Subject. We consider the unemployment and entrepreneurship among young people. Objectives. The aim of the study is to identify causes of youth unemployment and entrepreneurship in the modern world pattern. Methods. The study rests on a holistic approach, using the methods of statistical analysis and cluster analysis. Results. We specify the essence of youth unemployment, reveal the growth of unemployment in low- and middle-income countries, which is a driver of youth entrepreneurship. The problem of unemployment in low- and middle-income countries is addressed by shifting priorities from reducing the unemployment to increasing the employment. The high level of unemployment among young people prevails in developed countries with a high share in GDP and industrial output. First of all, this is due to the need to obtain a high level of education and qualifications for high-tech sectors of economy. Limited educational opportunities in low- and middle-income countries are not an obstacle to self-employment and entrepreneurship. The findings clarify the ontology of youth unemployment and entrepreneurship in the modern world, creating new competencies in relation to the public policy aimed at unemployment reduction. Conclusions. The specifics of youth unemployment and entrepreneurship in the modern world is associated with consistently high indicators of poverty level of the working youth, which depends on gender characteristics. High unemployment is observed among young people, both men and women, however, the employment among male youth is significantly higher.

Abstract:
Youth unemployment is one of the central concerns affecting global economics in the world today. The recent World Economic Forum held at Davos prioritized the discussions on issues confronting youth unemployment. The International Labor Office (ILO, 2013) projected a global youth unemployment rate of 12.7% by 2017. According to the ILO, (2013), 202 million people are unemployed globally and 40% are under the age of 24. South Africa fares even worse. Statistics SA (2012) indicates that 71% of the unemployed are aged 25-34 and the unemployment rate among youth is 36%. About 3.3 million youth aged 15-34 are not employed or studying (Financial Mail, 7th February 2013). With this in mind, the paper intends to look at the perceptions affecting youth entrepreneurship development in South Africa and whether entrepreneurial education and training fosters the development of entrepreneurial orientation in the South African youth. A five point Likert Scale was used, 1 = Strongly disagree 3 = Neutral and 5 = Strongly agree. Furthermore, a quantitative research method was used and 132 grade eleven learners were purposefully selected randomly in Crawford high school in Gauteng. Findings indicate that entrepreneurship education and training can direct students towards certain career choices; secondly, planned behavior can be predicted; and thirdly, practically is able to increase the propensity of students to start a business. Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted youth entrepreneurship in countries around the world. Developing countries have been negatively impacted the most due to the challenges confronting low-income countries. The youth in developing countries experience many challenges especially in start-ups and innovative businesses owing to lack of education, skills, funding, infrastructure, and other mechanisms of support.. These challenges therefore pose a significant threat on the youth in these countries in sustaining their new ventures and businesses during and after the crisis. This study focuses on a South African perspective and looks at the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on youth entrepreneurship in developing countries in comparison to developed countries. Nothwithstanding these challenges however, there are many opportunities that can be exploited in this crisis through innovative projects. This study was critical due to inadequate research been conducted on the impacts of the pandemic on entrepreneurship and youth entrepreneurship. A library and desk-based research was undertaken due to COVID-19 restrictions and time constraints. An inclusive literature review was done and thereafter findings reflected that the challenges that youth in African countries experience are due to the poor development of youth. Shutdowns of businesses and the protection of the elderly by staying home influenced their businesses. This impacted the youth negatively during the lockdown, but due to their innovative mind-sets, many African youth entrepreneurs utilized the lockdown as an opportunity to repurpose their businesses or embark on new ventures. Recommendations included creation of entrepreneurship hubs, availability of support initiatives, funding opportunities and creation of youth-friendly policies.

Abstract:
Nigerian government through its various agencies, World Bank, nongovernmental organizations, and even private philanthropists, has recently resorted to committing a lot of resources to training and empowering the youths in various entrepreneurships. This is done with the aim of enhancing creation of jobs, reduction of poverty, and generation of income both to individuals and government thereby bringing about economic diversification which will help reduce overdependence on government and oil revenue, hence leading to economic growth and development. While these initiatives are steps in the right direction, this study therefore empirically examined whether empowering the youths has significantly contributed to the growth of entrepreneurship thereby leading to economic diversification in Nigeria using the Nigeria Enterprise Survey Data (2014) and applying the multinomial logistic regression model. It was found among others that almost all the variables used to capture entrepreneurship growth and development in Nigeria were statistically significant except for tax rates, transportation cost, and land access (comparing micro and large enterprises with the small-scale enterprise) and tax rates, subsidy, and land access (comparing medium enterprise with small-scale enterprise). It was recommended among others that governments at all levels and its various agencies, World Bank, nongovernmental organizations, and even private philanthropists, need to do more on entrepreneurship training programs of youths. The training should be accompanied with sustained financial and nonfinancial support and monitoring the business activities of these entrepreneurs after empowering them.

This study aims to review the concept of entrepreneurship capital in the context of rural entrepreneurship. Rural entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly popular because it is considered as the proper instrument in stemming urbanization. This research examines the relationship between entrepreneurship and firm performance in the perspective of resource-based theory. The researcher used a structural equation model approach as a tool to measure the relationship. The unit of analysis of this study is a rural youth entrepreneur domiciled in East Java Province, Malang Regency, Bojonegoro, and Tuban. This study used a quantitative approach involving 733 youth entrepreneurs with a purposive sampling technique. The results of the study found that not all elements of entrepreneurship capital were able to influence firm performance. The three elements are cultural capital, social capital, and human capital. Other findings show financial capital is no longer as a major consideration to support entrepreneurship as in previous studies.

Abstract:
PurposeThe paper sought to make contribution to youth entrepreneurship research field. This is because whilst youth entrepreneurship presents enormous socio-economic benefits, including economic growth, diversification, innovation and poverty elimination earlier research have paid more attention to adults' entrepreneurship with less attention been paid to youth entrepreneurship resulting in a compelling research gap following the present huge youth unemployment across the world. Consequently, the motivation of the paper is to guide public policy and practice on the promotion of youth entrepreneurship, especially in developing countries.Design/methodology/approachThe study employs the survey research design based on logistic regression analysis as the key analytical technique to examine data. The choice of the logistic regression model is due to the fact that the main research question that informs the study is a dichotomous one. Hence it was found appropriate to select the logit regression model based on similar works in the field.FindingsOver all, the results show that lack of financial support from one's family background, early entry into formal employment, as well as being born into entrepreneurial dominated families significantly predict the probability of a youth considering entrepreneurship as an attractive life venture.Research limitations/implicationsThe study is based on non-probability sampling method and so readers must bear that in mind when they are interpreting the results.Practical implicationsFollowing from the findings, one of the practical implications is that youth entrepreneurs must align the external influences to the internal capacity of the businesses to initiate and/or start sustainable entrepreneurial ventures.Originality/valueThe study sheds light from an under-explored and new geographical context to advance existing knowledge in the field.

Entrepreneurship has long been a topic of interest for many researchers. The economy being volatile has impeded job opportunities for many, particularly amongst youths. In Malaysia specifically, where unemployment has been increasing over the years, measures have been taken by the government to promote entrepreneurship to youth and undergraduates to make them more entrepreneurially inclined. Despite the numerous incentives and programs by the government to encourage youth to be entrepreneurial inclined, the unemployment rate is still high in many countries, particularly Malaysia. This research aims to offer a systematic literature review on the growing role of education support in promoting entrepreneurial intention amongst undergraduates in Malaysia. This research will highlight the increasing importance of education in fostering entrepreneurial intentions amongst undergraduates in Malaysia over the last five years. Through the compilation of past literature and research, this study aims to contribute to entrepreneurship research by discussing the impact of education support as well as highlighting ongoing discussions on education support in nurturing undergraduate entrepreneurial intention.

Abstract:
This paper assesses the impact of Ghanaian culture on the entrepreneurial disposition of Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates of Accra Polytechnic from 2007 to 2012. Since the turn of the millennium, there has been more attention given to job creation than job seeking, especially among the youth, to address unemployment in developing countries. This is because of governments' inability to match the growing number of job seekers to job creation across the globe. One way to address this deficit in Ghana is the introduction of courses in entrepreneurship in almost all tertiary institutions, coupled with the setting up of institutions such as Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Development Agency (GYEEDA), National Youth Employment Program (NYEP), Youth Entrepreneurship Agency (YEA), Youth Entrepreneurship Support (YES), among others. Reporting on 2015 data from Accra, the main finding was that collectivistic culture has negative effects on capital accumulation, human resource management and the urgency the unemployed graduates attached to self-employment. Therefore, this paper calls for some ways to address the issue of graduates' inability to be enterprising.
