Abstract:
This study examined a unique police studies intervention program by comparing two groups of youth-at-risk in two types of residential youth schools. The experimental group included 129 youths who had attended a police studies program, while the control group included 167 youths who had attended a different intervention program, without police studies. We hypothesized that the experimental group would have more positive perceptions of police legitimacy and distributive justice and higher levels of personal morality than the control group would. Moreover, we hypothesized that the relationship between the type of the intervention program and perceptions of police legitimacy would be explained by youths’ personal morality and perceptions of police distributive justice. The study showed that the experimental group had more positive perceptions of police legitimacy and higher personal morality than did the control group, but there were no differences in perceived police distributive justice between the two groups. In addition, while personal morality partly mediated the link between the type of intervention program and perceptions of police legitimacy, perceived police distributive justice did not. Empirical and theoretical implications are discussed.

This journal explores the use of literature-based research techniques to examine how the law of kamma can be used to increase adolescent morality in communal life. The purpose of this research is to determine how the Buddhist notion of kamma law can be used to increase the morality of youth in their social interactions. This research method involved gathering information from primary and secondary sources relating to the ideas of the law of kamma and youth morality. The findings show that through increasing positive values, avoiding negative values, and developing strong and enduring characters, the idea of the law of kamma can be applied to increase the morality of youth. Research shows that using the notion of the law of kamma can be a useful substitute for increasing youth morality in communal life.

What follows is a set of reflections on the nature of Christian morality. Having been reared on and given allegiance to a morality which claimed to be rigorous, comprehensive and distinctively Christian, I have spent at least the last thirty years unlearning this in the light of experience and observation. The morality of my youth now appears as an ethics of boundaries rather than of transformation.

Abstract:
Youth is part of the community which the community itself is expected to play a role in providing useful participation for the progress of society. Religious morality is an important thing to be built in the midst of society because religious morality leads people to actions that are in accordance with the good values of religious teachings. This research uses a qualitative case study approach. The techniques used in data collection are observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique used is the concept of Miles & Huberman that the data is analyzed with theories that are relevant to the discussion. The objects used as informants in the study were five youths and one religious leader in the neighborhood of Rt 002, Rw 001, Kambangrejo Hamlet, Bedingin Village, Sambit District, Ponorogo Regency. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of youth in building religious morality in the community in that environment. The results of the study show that the youth of Rt 002, Rw 001, Dukuh Kambangrejo have a role in building religious morality in the community including participating in religious activities in the community such as yasinan, tahlilan, recitation, prospering mosques, being an example in cohesiveness, harmony, order, being a driving force for the community to creative, active in Ramadan activities such as tarawih prayers, tadarus quran, takbiran, and during Eid al-Adha, as well as maintaining environmental security.

Abstract:
This paper is intended as a contribution to a recent vigorous debate in The Times, between the distinguished journalist Bernard Levin, the eminent Oxford economist Wilfred Beckerman and the Archbishop of York, John Habgood, among others. The debate concerns morality, ‘free will’ and determinism. As a former German (now British) Jew, who lost close relatives at Auschwitz (e.g. my mother's sister) and who suffered personally severely in my youth under daily virulent Nazi persecution (even from schoolmasters who earlier professed to be ‘good democrats’ but were vicious antisemites), I obviously cannot remain strictly detached and neutral. Yet, I shall attempt to retain as much neutrality as possible, since I think that the main rivals in this debate have all some very relevant, interesting and valid things to say. Let me also state other, probably very relevant, biases. I am an ardent Zionist (and have been so since the experiences of my youth). In addition, I am a diehard mechanistic materialist as regards basic philosophy, although I am tolerant of other people's religious feelings, because I realize that my materialism is as metaphysical as their religious views. With this as background let me return to the technical issues. Obviously, in a philosophical journal one can write at a level above that of The Times, where there is, perhaps, insufficient room to debate philosophical, biological, physical and other niceties in some depth.

Abstract:
The 21st Century Christian parents, the church, government and the society is faced with lots of challenges. One of such prevailing challenges is the issue of moral decadence among the youth. The effects of moral decadence as observed in recent times are increase in societal vices such as armed robbery, prostitution, drug trafficking, cyber-crime, e-smoking, fraud, banditry, kidnapping etc. These effects associated with the age of technological advancement have continued to impinge on the development of the Nigerian nation. Thus, this paper centres on the roles of Christian parents and the church in sustaining morality among youth in a Post-modern age. In the face of myriads of societal vices orchestrated by youth with its adverse effects on the Nigerian society, what should the Christian parents and the church do to sustain morality? How can the virtues of integrity, humility, right societal etiquette and conduct be instilled among the youth in the Post-modern era? This is the thrust of this paper. The paper adopts the descriptive method and argues that morality could be sustained in this age of technological advancement if Christian parents and the church rise to their responsibility to teach the youth the place and value of morality in their early age. The paper maintains that through committed education of the youth by their Christian parents and the church, societal vices could be eschewed and virtues instilled. The paper recommends strict discipline, active participation of Christian parents in the upbringing of their youth, and organization of goal-oriented seminars and provision of rehabilitation centres by the church.

Abstract:
Any society’s stability hinges upon its members’ collective adherence to moral principles and practices. Morality, universally relevant, acts as a unifying force that transcends religious, racial, and regional boundaries. This study examines the moral values of Muslim youth in Nigeria, highlighting the rising deviation from Islamic principles towards Western culture and immorality. Through a qualitative research strategy, data was collected by conducting interviews with selected youths across Nigeria and experts in Islamic moral teachings. Thematic analysis is applied to discern crucial patterns in the study. The study reveals that forsaking Islamic moral values and adopting Western culture results in moral decadence, which contributes to rising crime rates, including sexual assaults, substance abuse, highway robbery, educational setbacks, and mental health disorders. The root causes of the deterioration include the lack of individual morality, societal moral ethics, and ignorance of Islamic moral values. The study recommends integrating Islamic moral teachings from the Qur’an and Sunnah alongside encouraging positive cultural and moral behaviours to mitigate these challenges. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the importance of raising awareness among youth regarding the detrimental effects of Western and non-Islamic culture. Tackling the shortcomings in personal and societal morality, addressing moral ignorance, and engaging parents, schools, and the community are suggested as essential measures to mitigate the impact of moral decline.

Abstract:
During the 1950s and 1960s, the Mexican government found that hippies and so-called rebels without a cause held attitudes that threatened the corporative PRI system, a situation that led to the identification of youths as a problem requiring government intervention. The defence of morality and the preservation of national values signalled the deviant nature of youth, and legitimated repressive policies against this emerging social group. This article explores how the Cine Mundial newsreel promoted the condemnation of rebellious youths and outlined the profile of a desirable model of youth in alignment with the country’s developmentalist policy. Finally, the scope and limitations of the media and newsreels are analysed.

Good, Mary Katherine. "Modern Moralities, Moral Modernities: Ambivalence and Change Among Youth in Tonga." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/242472.

Full text
Abstract:
Youth in Tonga occupy a particularly fraught social position due to their symbolic status as both the "purveyors of global modernity" and "the future of the nation and tradition." This precarious standing provides the basis for my analysis of the ways in which youth engage in the negotiation of moral frameworks in everyday life. I employ both sociocultural and linguistic anthropological methods and theory to examine how morality is construed across multiple domains of daily life, including language, aesthetic self-fashioning, and social action. Global modernity has brought significant changes in the kinds of goods available and lives imaginable by Tongans, but has also introduced considerable ambivalence about how Tongan culture and tradition can be reconciled with new opportunities. In particular, digital technologies and links with transnational organizations have begun to mediate gendered notions of what it means to be moral in the rapidly changing local context. In a society where strong relationships with kin are still one of the major institutions critical to the fulfillment of basic daily needs and to making extra-local connections for education or work, these changes have led to increasing concern about the maintenance of Tongan "tradition," including moral obligations to extended family. As new technologies, expanded fields of sexuality, and other enticements instill desires for different kinds of lives, the affective and material ties of generous, loving kin continue to keep youth rooted in traditional social networks. Throughout the negotiation of desires and obligations, youth work to present themselves as socially appropriate actors in their daily activities, while casting an eye to the larger global stage. This research stands on the premise that globalization must be understood as a set of processes operating on micro-levels of intimate social practices rather than viewing it as simply a collection of macro-scale economic or political forces. I argue that, as youth re-interpret the meanings of morality in light of global modernity, they subtly shift cultural understandings of emotional and epistemological frameworks as well, changing the balance of power relations between and within the local and global contexts.

Abstract:
This thesis is an anthropological study of Internet sexual offending, more specifically the viewing of child abuse media. It is based on 17 months of participant-observation in UK group programs for individuals who had downloaded illegal child abuse media, semi-structured interviews with participants, program staff, and police, and staff focus groups. Through engaging directly with offenders and those managing them, it provides an in-depth, qualitative understanding of how Internet use and perceptions of online spaces play a key role in Internet sexual offending, while also asking broader questions about online sociality, morality, and effects on normative behaviour. The central argument posits that in moving beyond commonplace explanations for Internet offending, more attention must be given to Internet use, perceptions and constructions of online spaces, and effects on social norms to explain this phenomenon. It then follows to suggest that for some offenders, these elements can be instrumental in their sexualization of children and choice to view abusive media. The thesis specifically explores why and how some people in the UK engage with illegal child abuse media, with particular attention to notions of risk, childhood, morality, and the Internet. Employing Foucauldian and neo-Foucauldian theory, anthropology of the Internet, and constructionist theories of childhood, focus is placed on multiple areas: the potential social, emotional, sexual, and Internet-specific factors associated with offending; participants' relationships with the Internet and constructions of online spaces; participants' perceptions of childhood and children online and offline; and, societal and institutional efforts to respond to the above, including the larger justice system and fieldwork group program. The general research areas are social science of the Internet, childhood studies, human sexuality, group therapeutic processes, policy and law, and research methodology and ethics.

Abstract:
Through these symbolic narratives was possible to examine the way in which childrens literature imbricates processes of reproduction and renewal of social values, and the social discourses that show values from an education which sets a moral standard. This study finds support in Mikhail Bakhtins dialogism ideas, taking into account issues arising interactionism, which make reference to intertextual dialogue, putting in evidence the moral and ideologic principles , and monologic and polyphonic elements to show that literature for children and young adults is not presented as an innocent form of art in society. Abstract:
Diante de tais resultados, são tecidas considerações acerca das implicações para o campo da psicologia moral e da educação.<br>The research aimed at analyzing the psychological function of feelings and emotions to the construction of youth purpose. The research is grounded in indissociability of cognition and affectivity, and in recent perspectives of human morality, as well as in the theory of Organizing Models of Thinking which proposes that human being constructs models of reality based on cognitive and affective processes. It is also based on the concept of youth purpose, understood as goals and objectives that are meaningful to the self and of consequences beyond the self, giving an ethical sense to life and actions. It was applied semi-structured interviews with 30 youth aged from 15 to 17, from public high school in the state of Paraná. Data analysis was based on theoretical bases used. Organizing models showed an influence of feelings and emotions in youth purpose linked by the following aspects: configuration of feelings and emotions in reasoning; youth positioning before the conflicts, obstacles and difficulties; relations between self and others. It was also emphasized the importance of interpersonal relationships, welfare and self satisfaction, and the moral values that support purpose. Given these results, considerations are made about the implications for moral psychology and education.

Abstract:
Ao final, considerando-se tais descobertas, tecemos algumas implicações educacionais da presente investigação.<br>This work, in the field of moral psychology, sought to understand the functionality of the youth organization of thought belong to their projections on the future. The central objective of this research was to understand how the processes of integration and regulation of feelings and values occur, underling the development of projects of life in youth. This way, three themes support our research: concepts of integration and moral regulation, based on psychological perspective that combines morality to self; life project in youth; Theory of Organizing Models of Thought. To the development of this research, there are two instruments: issues relating to young peoples design of life and a moral conflict involving a life project experienced by a fictional character. 200 students, from public schools belonging to each Brazilian regions, answered to these questionnaires, by open questions, and individual writing. The data analysis obtained from the two instruments was based on the referrals of Theory of Organizing Models of Thought. In the answers of each participant we could notice the abstracted elements, its meanings and the relation/ implication among them, leading to the extraction of organizing models from each instrument. With these analyzes, we found that contexts and the type of request point to important content about values and feelings integration and regulation processes. One can conclude that although these processes are heavily influenced by such content, they occur intimately associated with how each one establishes relationships between itself, from the mobilized complex of values, feelings and meanings. We found that facing different situations, there is a continuum between the processes of values and feelings integration and regulation, consisting of characteristics from moral identity and the flexibility required by context contents representation. Thus, it became clear that life projects are subject to change at the same time that are shown as important aspects of young peoples moral system. At the end, considering these findings, we weave some education implications of this research.

Abstract:
This ethnographic study explores treatment practices and staff-resident interaction at a detention home for young men, drawing on video recorded conversations and interviews. It investigates ideological dilemmas inherent in the institutional setting and how these produce complex subject positions to uptake, negotiate or refuse. Study I explores a core treatment dilemma: coercion vs. freedom, involving the dual institutional goal of coercing residents into norm abiding behavior and of producing individuals who behave "properly" out of their own free will. It focuses on staff members’ talk about token economy, illuminating rhetorical resources deployed to avoid the troubled subject position of a disciplinarian. Study II investigates disciplinary humor, illuminating how humor is used both to impose and disrupt social order. It shows how staff members and youths skillfully deploy humor in negotiating local hierarchies related to authority, generation, and age. Humor was also found to be a useful way of navigating ideological dilemmas. Study III explores behavior modification practices, focusing on how selfassessment practices can be conceptualized as responsibilization that emphasizes self-regulation. It documents the participants’ engagement in strategic deployment of specific subject position relations, “young boy”-caregiver rather than delinquent-disciplinarian. In brief, the thesis shows that subject positions are essentially co-constructed, and how positions related to age are highly relevant in this institutional setting. Paradoxical aspects of subject positions provide discursive resources that can be deployed to navigate ideological dilemmas such as that of coercion vs. freedom, but also to handle issues of authenticity.<br>Denna etnografiska studie undersöker behandlingspraktiker och interaktion mellan personal och ungdomar på ett särskilt ungdomshem för unga män.

Abstract:
The aim of the study was to investigate whether the phenomenon of internet drugs should be considered as a moral panic or as a real danger. We have mainly focused on how society perceives young people's use of these drugs. The study is based on a qualitative approach and we have used structured interviews. The interviews were conducted with three different categories of professionals who in different ways have contact with parts of our study in their professional capacity. These are: officials, commentators, and researchers. We chose these respondents to get a chance to see the phenomenon from different perspectives. The study's starting point is moral panic and youth culture. The results and analysis section showed that the professionals had differing opinions on how to consider the phenomenon. The majority of respondents felt that there are elements of both moral panic and real danger; however, there were those who felt it was merely a moral panic, while others felt that it was solely a real danger. With this background, our conclusion is that probably internet drugs should be seen as both - a moral panic and a real danger.

Abstract:
We read in the media about how young people are being subjected to abuse, insults and bullying through their social media. Through our study, we want to show how some young people themselves argue about their use of social media. We also want to elevate their thoughts on the risks and opportunities they can see with social media. We have interviewed seven young people from different areas of Stockholm between the ages of 15-19 years. The conclusion of the study is that young people can see that there are risks with social media. At the same time, they see that the potential of social media, such as giving them a fast communication channel to their friends, both close and far away, and also having access to news and information from around the world, contemplates the risks.

Ramusetheli, Mavhungu Diana. "The relevance of Nyambedzano as an effective process for promoting morality among the youth." Thesis, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/11602/1418.

Abstract:
PhD (African Studies)<br>Department of African Studies<br>Literature and media reports constantly show increased incidences of ill-discipline and lawlessness amongst the youth. These misdemeanours adversely affect communities and the behaviour of the youth as active, responsible and proactive members of the society and community members. Unfortunately, there are insufficient conversations about morality across social strata. The elders often seem disenfranchised by the popularity of the rights-based approach and modernity. In addition, communities are not proactive in coming up with initiatives that encourage on-going nyambedzano between the elders and the youth on issues around morals and discipline. Nyambedzano is a Venda concept that does not seem to have the exact English translation, so in this study I will use the concepts communication, conversation and dialogue interchangeably. Furthermore, there is a continuous blame game in the community about who should lead effective conversations that should buttress the development of responsible youth citizens. The purpose of this study was to explore the relevance of nyambedzano between the youth and elders about African morality among the youth. The study also aimed to investigate factors that were hindering nyambedzano to take place. I conducted qualitative appreciative focus group discussions with the elders and youth (who were in and out of school) that were purposively selected. Data was analysed thematically in relation to the stages of an Appreciative Inquiry approach. Findings revealed that nyambedzano between the elders and the youth about youth morality is relevant; however, its application is complicated by several factors which include the changing family structure, the changing parenting age, media and technology influences, a rightsbased approach to child rearing, and the denigration of cultural values at home, school and in the community. These findings were synthesised to develop a facilitative nyambedzano programme. Contrary to Vhavenda cultural practices, nyambedzano would have to be a two-way communication process between the elders and the youth. It would take place at different contexts, the home being the starting point. There would have to be some compromise between the rights- based contemporary approaches and traditional cultural ways of dealing with morality. This study makes methodological, empirical and theoretical contributions. An Appreciative Inquiry approach was applied to the Vhavenda ethnic group to explore the possibility of Nyambedzano between the youth and elders. The empirical contribution is that this study is the first to address nyambedzano as a process for promoting morality among the youth, within the context of the Tshivenda culture. The theoretical contribution of this study lies in the development of the facilitative nyambedzano programme that describes how nyambedzano between the elders and the youth should take place, taking into consideration the cultural values of the Vhavenda people. The recommendations are based on the creation of supportive parents, families, teachers, schools, churches, community members and policy makers.<br>NRF

Abstract:
In this article, Nils Bühler conducts a critical genealogy of West Germany prohibiting (dubbed indexing) digital games in the 1980s. After a brief overview of the indexing practice and the BPjS as the enforcing authority, Bühler analyses 10 exemplary documents in order to trace the BPjS's process of knowledge generation. Finally, Sneath, Holbraad, and Pedersen's concept of "technologies of the imagination" aids the author in understanding how reactionary morality in youth protection discourses led to indexing of computer games.

Abstract:
Statistics show that in recent years there has been an increase in the number of families falling into a socially dangerous situation. According to statistics provided by the departments for juvenile affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Cherepovets, the number of crimes in 2021 decreased by only 2.1% compared to 2020. This was influenced by objective factors, in particular the low standard of living, "chronic" unemployment, alcohol abuse, drug use. Having embarked on such a path, the family degrades socially and morally, condemning children to the same existence. It is not surprising that children leave home, spend most of their time on the street, thereby replenishing antisocial groups. Thus, we can say that the current system of working with children of the SOP is not effective enough, since there is no clear algorithm for working with children in a socially dangerous situation. Therefore, methodological recommendations for working with children were developed by the SOP, which includes a telephone communication script for employees of the youth center, as well as a clear and understandable algorithm for working with children in a socially dangerous situation. These guidelines for working with children of SOP are clear and easy to use, and most importantly, they do not require special psychological knowledge, skills and abilities.
