Abstract:
This article outlines a public rhetoric for youth ministry in an era of ecclesial agoraphobia. The article draws on the findings of a larger research project titled The Four Speeches Every Leader Has to Know. With the use of rhetorical theory, analysis of actual speeches, and a phenomenological and narrative approach to leadership and speaking, this research project has developed a four speeches-typology – the opening speech, the executioner speech, the consolation speech, and the farewell speech. The article uses this typology within the framework of a biblical rhetoric, looking at the speeches of Jesus, to analyse how the four speeches of Jesus may help the youth leader to address the transitory lives of young people in a credible way.

Demographic information was gathered from programs providing speech assessment services to hearing-impaired children and youth in the United States. Frequency of use scores and rankings are reported for test instruments used by at least 10% of the respondents to assess the speech of the hearing impaired at the infant, preschool, primary, and secondary educational levels. Domains tested and stimulus-response demands of the instruments are discussed in view of speech assessment needs of the hearing impaired. Information regarding the educational settings in which speech and language assessment services are provided and the current positions of employment of those providing the services is also included.

Abstract:
Purpose Youth with craniofacial microsomia (CFM) have anomalies and comorbidities that increase their risk for speech, language, and communication deficits. We examined these outcomes in youth with and without CFM and explored differences as a function of CFM phenotype and hearing status. Method Participants included youth ages 11–17 years with CFM ( n = 107) and demographically similar controls ( n = 306). We assessed speech intelligibility, articulation, receptive and expressive language, and parent and teacher report measures of communication. Hearing status was also screened at the study visit. Group differences were estimated using linear regression analyses with standardized effect sizes (ES) adjusted for demographic characteristics (adjusted ES) or negative binomial regression. Results Youth with CFM scored lower than unaffected peers on most measures of intelligibility, articulation, expressive language, and parent- and-teacher-rated communication. Differences were most pronounced among participants with CFM who had mandibular hypoplasia plus microtia (adjusted ES = −1.15 to −0.18). Group differences were larger in youth with CFM who failed the hearing screen (adjusted ES = −0.73 to 0.07) than in those who passed the hearing screen (adjusted ES = −0.34 to 0.27). Conclusions Youth with CFM, particularly those with mandibular hypoplasia plus microtia and/or hearing loss, should be closely monitored for speech and language concerns. Further research is needed to identify the specific needs of youth with CFM as well as to document the course of speech and language development in children with CFM.

Abstract:
Speech behavior is a sociocultural phenomenon that characterizes not only the peculiarities of a person’s cultural space, but also the quality of his moral health, and therefore can be viewed in the format of a healthy lifestyle. The most important characteristic of the moral health of society is the speech culture of young people. Theoretical and applied research presented in the article showed contradictions that exist in the attitude of students to speech behavior: a relatively satisfactory indicator of the desire of young people to improve the literacy of speech culture is combined with tolerance to the absurd, abusive vocabulary. The family and the status of educational institutions in which the respondents are studying has a significant influence on the formation of speech culture.

Abstract:
AbstractThis study investigated whether positive feedback from same-age peers can modify self-relevant cognitive processes of high socially anxious youth in a positive direction. Thirty-three high socially anxious and 32 non-socially anxious undergraduate students (17–22 years) gave an impromptu speech and received either positive or neutral feedback post-speech. Anticipatory processing (AP) was rated prior to the speech via self-report. One week later participants returned to the laboratory and completed questionnaires assessing post-event processing (PEP) thoughts related to the impromptu speech and AP about a future speech. For high socially anxious youth receiving positive feedback, AP about their speech performance significantly improved over time. In addition, high socially anxious participants who received positive feedback reported a higher frequency of positive PEP thoughts about their speech in the intervening week. These improvements did not occur in the neutral peer feedback condition. Non-socially anxious participants’ AP improved in both feedback conditions, whereas their frequency of PEP was unaffected by feedback. These findings suggest that, in high socially anxious youth, positive feedback from same-age peers can modify self-relevant cognitive processes in a positive direction. We discuss how methodological improvements could more thoroughly investigate the potential of positive peer feedback for changing cognitions.

The article covers the ways to understand and describe youth slang as a social language variety from three perspectives. The first one presents the youth slang conceptualisation as the effect of language studies from the past several years, the second perspective refers to making use of the ways to describe the language of young generations in media space, while the third one exposes the significance of slang among teenagers as its natural users. The recapitulation is accompanied by the author’s linguistic and sociocultural reflections, which argue in favour of contemporary expansion of youth sociolect and its evolution from a communal variety to a culturally motivated communication style.

Abstract:
This research reveals a concern about the contemporaneous youth and how they deal with the state of urban violence and vulnerability that they are submitted. Studies, researches and written reports developed in the last decade by UNESCO show the youth as a portion of population more vulnerable to problems like violence, unemployment, difficulty of access to good education, and also fail to have access to cultural benefits, leisure and sport. When we focalize on Latin American reality the data show that the youths between 15 and 24 years old belong to the portion of population more exposed to external violence such as homicide and traffic accidents. In Brazil, the total number of homicide occurred in the country approximately 56% happens to young people, it means that more than a half of victims are between 15 and 29 years old. This research started looking after news from newspapers related to situations of homicides and vulnerability within the youth population for taking into account the way statistical data are presented to everyday life. The news not only indicated the reality but were also used as a start point to discuss with the young people from different social classes about their condition in the contemporaneousness. These meetings were called conversations circles. Through the arguments of the young people within the conversation circles, this research aimed to point out the manners the youth undergo the violence, a reality full of risks and vulnerabilities. Finally, the aim of this research was not only to promote a critical thinking about the way the urban violence and vulnerability affect the inner experience of the young people, but also to offer a knowledge to the professionals that work with young people for creating interventions to prevent these problems. The intention of this research was also to promote public policy directed to youth, a field full of disputes which claims for urgent solutions from the professionals of this area of studies.

Abstract:
The study presented in this thesis focuses on unaccompanied female minors and their experiences as newly arrived migrants in Sweden. As a group, unaccompanied female minors have until recently been rather invisible in both academic research and media. However, according to previous research on migration and integration, they risk being constructed as ‘others’ both due to their status as unaccompanied minors, being female and in relation to general perceptions of what it means to be Swedish. This study is based on qualitative interviews with 11 girls, 13 to 18 years old, who arrived in Sweden as unaccompanied minors in the period between 2014 and 2017. The interviews were conducted in two phases, with nine months to one year between the first and second phases. Whereas the focus in the first phase was on getting to know the participants, the second phase provided an opportunity to delve deeper into discussions on recurring themes from the first phase. The interviews were transcribed using a denaturalised approach and thematically analysed through an abductive process. The thesis explores the girls’ narratives of everyday experiences and interprets them through a theoretical framework of othering. Without losing sight of the social structures that situates the girls’ experiences, othering is approached as a reciprocal, three-dimensional relationship, focusing on knowledge, values and conduct towards the other. The findings indicate that the girls participating in this study were often seen through the normative perception of an already othered context, and as a consequence, their own voices and agency were disregarded. They were, metaphorically, put in places without speech. However, by engaging a critical perspective on their everyday interactions, the girls were also able to recognise and resist othering by keeping true to their own experiences. The thesis concludes that by exploring the margins between their comfort zones and new contexts the girls engage in an epistemic merging of different horizons, which can be understood as a slow but insistent process of moving out from the place without speech.

Abstract:
Anthropologists have frequently used music in general and popular music in particular as a means to gain a perspective into everyday realities of young Africans lives. Attempting to place myself amongst this range of researchers, I use the position of Rwandan hip-hop as a point of departure to examine how young men in Kigali relate to and shape their realities in terms of politics, freedom of expression, and the creation of space and opportunities in the Rwandan society. My study is based on two and a half months of fieldwork in Kigali during the period between August and October of 2013. The empirical material upon which my arguments rely consists of interviews with young hip-hop Rwandans located in Kigali, who were almost exclusively male. It is also drawn from classical anthropological methods of participant observations and daily partaking in the lives of my informants. My analytical understanding of this material is mainly based upon notions of agency and structure, and contextualized within contemporary Africanist scholars’ research on modern music and youth. By looking at the historical context of Rwanda, the current state of youth in Kigali, and the contemporary atmosphere of politics and hip-hop music, I seek to understand the contradictive role of music as an arena for youth to express themselves. Through the stories of young hip-hop men, I describe and communicate their perceptions of constrains related to historical and socio-political sensitivities, feelings of fear connected to outspokenness, and alternative means to voice their opinions. I illustrate how these young men use innovative strategies and metaphorical language as a way to negotiate with some of these constrains as well as to influence each other and embody senses of oppositional opinions and collective empowerment. I also examine how national politics and governmental initiatives have increasingly become intertwined with the music and how it is trying to take advantage of its attractiveness as a youth medium. Ultimately, I discuss how the impact of Rwandan hip-hop can be seen as double-ended, serving the interests of both governmental policies and the youth who in different ways are trying to liberate themselves from political constrains, and how this affect the empowering potential of the music.

Abstract:
Vou me dar bem... e De menina a mulher 3.
This followed dissertation is regarding to different manners of constituting the youth, in general, through media speeches. From the nowadays idea that we live in a society which phenomenon of spectacularly affection and relationships are in ebullition, I analyse 'youth loving experiences' that surround at certain vehicle of press media, in which the youth figure is prominent: three magazines - Capricho (Caprice), Atrevida (cheeky) and Playboy -, and two books - Galera! Vou me dar bem... (Guys! I'll get on well...) and De menina a mulher 3 (From girl to woman 3). The analysis intention is to visualize the loving grammar addressed and (re)produced to the youth through certain media texts, searching for understanding of how that speech has been built and in wich way it has been associated to various practical that inscribe the youth subject some how, regulating and transforming themselves in "loving subjects". It is a question of operating with materiality of "said things", understanding and problematizing in a way that the youth who is in love emerges an expressible realm effect. At this sense, the present study gets in consonance with the presupposed theoretician Michel Foucault, dealing more speciafically about concepts of speech, power, subjectiveness manners and techniques itselves. This work also bring some reflection about current grammar in romantic love based on the concepts of culture sensations and culture amounted, developed by Juremir Freire Costa. With the study, there is also a research in order to emphasizes pedagogical character of media, detailing that "sentimental pedagogy" would contain analyzed media products that has operated in a way of promoting speeches and creating meanings to the called youth loving experiences.

The education for youth and grown ups comes in an expressive moment for reconstruction of the experience lived by these people as subject. It's a time of naming the knowledges, previous phases of education, placing them with school sectors, living day-by-day in the classroom. This work has got as objective assess EJA teachers' work about this kind of teaching. For that, we're trying to checklist their speech according to the Social Discuss Theory of Fairclough in order to learn what their meaning is, of Youth Grown ups Education, how they live, accept and react and create knowledge in the complex practicle relation. The research has been done with teachers working in Campina Grande county public schools over the second semester of 2006 and the first half of 2007. Semi-structured interviews were used, highlighting teachers discuss. the collected data showed that this discuss point the sadness, resigning, and motionlessness, possibly leading them to a lack of comittment with Youth and Grown ups Education. Abstract:
Contemporaneously, in the midiatized world, one can state that advertising in some way, educate, regulate and govern certain modes of 'healthy life', and can be understood as a cultural pedagogy. Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is to examine how discourses presented in advertising of 'healthy' food help to the (re) production of device health. The material for analysis includes: two advertising campaigns about two different food products - Yoghurt Activia (Danone) and Fruthos Juice (Schincariol) - and conversations with two groups of teenagers girls; one formed for girls from two private schools and the other one for girls from one public school in Porto Alegre-RS. From the campaigns speeches analysis was possible to perceive modes of health care and bodily practices for teenager girls, driven by these cultural artifacts. Such speeches are treated as a vital part of 'healthy life'. The theoretical and methodological efforts for research are included in the field of Cultural Studies and the theories of Michel Foucault, especially as regards the concepts of speech, and standard device. The culture of consumption, linked to the field of advertising, also permeates the analysis. Among the findings, it was possible to observe that when the teenager girls were caused by the advertising campaigns images - they showed to be subjectfied by them, making practices of body care and [re] producing certain practices of consumption 'taught' by the advertising campaigns, although, in certain moments, they expressing some criticism of them. Moreover, many scientific words used in these advertising campaigns reinforce what in this study is called device health. Also, this device seems to produce certain disciplines and practices of self monitoring on the consumers, leading to a normative regulation of such practices which are expressed by speeches as models of 'healthy life'.

Abstract:
This exploratory study has the main goal of positioning news literacy as a mediating factor toward fostering political engagement, by investigating its role in enhancing youth's online news experience preparing them against harmful content. News literacy is defined as a multi-structural construct with three main constituents; motivation, knowledge and skills. The study is applied on a sample of young people from Egypt and a sample of young people from Spain, based on which comparative analysis is conducted. The study's main goal is accomplished through delving into youth's online news experience, assessing their level of news literacy and inferring implications for political engagement. In that sense, the notion of harmful content emerges with focus on fake news and hate speech as two main types of misleading content encountered on the internet in general and on social media in specific. This calls to question whether citizens are 'responsible' when it comes to their online news behavior. Accordingly, correlations between news literacy and other variables are tested. Findings reveal a positive correlation between news literacy and: the ability to identify fake news, the ability to identify hate speech, engagement to news, caring about veracity of content before sharing, motivation to seek news and political engagement

Abstract:
The study was motivated by identified gaps in literature, theory and practice on hate speech's role in perpetuating negative ethnicity and youth violence. The study sought to add to existing knowledge with modifications to the Critical Race Theory, highlighting ethnicity as a dominant factor in Kenya's political and social discourse. The study is founded on the Pragmatic Paradigm, employing various mixed methods techniques. The sample of the study was 150 youth drawn from a Kenyan University and University College through simple random sampling. Convenience sampling was used to select a sample for Focus Group Discussions. Five members of ethnic-affiliated university student associations were interviewed and snowball sampling used to identify five members of the Mungiki sect for interview. Data was analyzed by linking the research objectives to the data analysis procedure, transcribing data and analyzing textual content to determine features characterizing hate speech based on the target group's perceptions, thus generating themes for analysis to facilitate the building of theory.

Abstract:
Youth unemployment is a major issue in many developing countries, particularly in locations not well connected with large urban markets. A limited number of available job opportunities in urban centres may reduce the benefit of policies that encourage rural–urban migration. In this project, we investigated the feasibility of ‘virtual migration’, by training rural youth in Bangladesh to become online freelancers, enabling them to export their labour services to a global online marketplace. We did this by setting up a ‘freelancing incubator’, which provided the necessary workspace and infrastructure – specifically, high-speed internet connectivity and computers. Close mentoring was also provided to participants to assist in navigating the competitive online marketplace. We show the exciting potential of online work for improving the incomes of poor youth in developing countries. We also highlight the constraints to this type of work: financing constraints for the high training cost, access to the necessary work infrastructure, and soft skills requirements to succeed in the market. We also shed light on some promising possibilities for innovative financial contracts and for ‘freelancing incubators’ or ‘virtual exporting companies’ to assist students in their sourcing of work and skills development.
