Full textThe purpose of this study is to achieve better understanding of how tasks can see out for a new graduated counselor of various sites. The study a look across the practitioner experiences of the relationship between their skills and duties. Through a qualitative method, five interviews with guidance counselors in Stockholm County have been analyzed. We have concluded that these studies and counselors have had a job after graduating in the school system. All advisers see a connection between the skills they have gained from education and their tasks and roles. These counselors also feel that the counselor's professional role can sometimes be felt as diffuse through the second requires information that is not in the counselor's skills.

Full textAuthor : Liselott Holst Title: professional identities of guidance counselors - A interviewstudy with some active guidance counselors in elementary and secondary school Master Thesis : 91 - 120 hp Supervisor: Niklas Gustafson Department of Education The purpose of this thesis is to study how some active guidance counselors in elementary and secondary school are talking about themselves and their profession in relation to their own workplace. My theoretical starting point is discourse analysis and social comparison theory, and I have used qualitative interviews using an interview guide. From the result of the empirical material I have been able to identify a discourse scheme for counselors in elementary and secondary school. Within this order of discourse are different opinions among the respondents in the study, including when it comes to tasks that are outside the counselors' actual professional competence. The discourse of "versatile artist" is the most prominent discourse in this study. Another interesting result is that personality is more important than profession when it came to matters of cooperation and sense of belonging with other professionals in their workplace. The interviews also revealed that there is a desire among some respondents about increased regulation and clearer guidelines for school guidance and counseling, while others value the greater latitude for their own operations.

Full textOur study aims to explore what experienced role some school counselors have or could have in school-health teams. We have explored this through qualitative interviews with six different informants, four school counselors and two leaders of school-health teams. We have examined their experiences and opinions about the school counselor’s role in school- health teams. Our research questions are: How does the school counselor’s role look like and how are their competencies being used in school-health teams? How does leaders of school-health teams see the school counselor’s role and competencies in the work done by school-health teams? How does the school counselor and the leader of the school-health teams experience the cooperation between the school counselor and the other members of the school-health team? The results show that all our informants agree that the school counselor should be a part of the school-health team. They also agree that the school counselor have competencies that no other member of the school-health team have, including knowledge about educational routes, schooling, and conversation methodology. Furthermore, our study shows that the interprofessional cooperation in the school-health team prove to have both pros and cons.

Full textThe background to this study is the governments investment in design and the increase of design education around the country. As a future design teacher (industrialdesign) at high school/college, it is of great interest for me to look closer at students attitude towards design and design educations at high school.
Questions that have been investigated are student´s attitude towards design; design as a concept but also as a phenomenon. How does the student counselor inform the students of the different
choices before choosing high school?
Does the students view on design correspond to what the student counselor say?
What opinion does the student counselor have to the concept design as well as design in high
school? Is design just a craze or here to stay?
To get answers I have made interviews with student counselors at two different schools, I have also been in contact with a student counselor on the internet. Their thoughts will clarify the
situation that the students might be in. I have also made questionnaires at two different schools,
three classes per school. The students are ninth graders and their answers underlie this study.
Besides that, relevant literature and reports have been used.
The result shows that students attitude towards design are divided. Some thinks design is here to stay and can develop, while others thinks that there are more important things in life, for instance
a medical education. This shows that students give different knowledge different value. I have also seen that students are unsure concerning the word design, at the same time a majority says that it is a common word. The study shows that a majority of the students associates the word design with fashion design, creation of clothes.

Full textEmployability is regarded to be valuable for several actors, among them the society, the enterprises and the individual. Our essay considers employability for career counsellors. We have noticed that competition for counsellor posts is hard in Skåne. Our aim was therefore to examine what makes a career counsellor, or other candidates for counsellor posts, employable. Yet we limited the essay to examine what increases the possibilities for a career counsellor to be summoned interviews, for counsellor posts. We did this by using a list of criteria of employability, established by us. The criterions on the list later got ranked and discussed by employers within six different counsellor areas in Skåne. Then we compared these results with the priorities of the Sveriges Vägledarförening, and Studie- och yrkesvägledarföreningen i Lärarnas Riksförbund. This because our conception is that these institutions can contribute to increased employability for a career counsellor, presupposed that they have the same vision of employability as the employers do. Our conclusion is that the five most important criteria for employability once summoned to a job interview for counsellor posts are, according to the employers in this study: career counsellor education, work experience within the trade, wide work experience within different trades, education in a higher level than upper secondary school within the trade and professional/well formulated application forms. We also made the conclusions that the consensus between, on one hand the answers of the employers and on the other hand the answers of Sveriges Vägledarförening, is high concerning certain criteria, but is very different concerning others. This also concerns the comparison between the idea of employability among the employers and the idea of the same of Studie- och yrkesvägledarföreningen i Lärarnas Riksförbund.

Full textIn this thesis, the authors examine what teachers at local high schools think about guidance counselors professionally. The authors would like to find out what teachers consider the issues of cooperation and if they believe it is essential that high schools have guidance counselors. The education to become a guidance, counselor is a three-year university education to 180 credits, but how many teachers know that in fact? The authors have used a quantitative method with questionnaires, in order to get such a broad picture of teachers' knowledge and opinions. A total of sixty questionnaires were mailed and personally distributed, then thirty in each city. Thus, ten questionnaires to teachers at three local high schools. Fifty-two questionnaires were received. The results showed that all respondents believe it is essential that high schools have a guidance counselor. They believe that guidance is primarily important for the students. The majority of respondents felt that guidance counselors should be competent and therefore have an adequate education. Most respondents felt that collaboration between teachers and guidance counselors is more important than very important. Here describe the respondents’ words as communication, accessibility, information and for knowledge exchange, at the question of how a good collaboration looks like. Thirty of the respondents thought that a three-year university education required to become a competent guidance counselor. Eight respondents answered that a two-year university education was needed, and thirteen replied that they did not know what training was required. The results have been compiled with the help of tables and then analyzed. The result has also been compared with the policy-documents (like the education act) and also previous research of collaboration between teachers and guidance counselors, as well as the function and job- assignments of guidance counselors in high schools. The study may also be the basis for a possible further cooperation between the education for teachers and guidance counselors.

Full textThe purpose of this study is to examine how professional guidance counselors do to be employable, how the skills development within the workplace works and who is responsible for the development of skills. The study also refers to the meaning of networking.To get the information, qualitative interviews were done with six professional guidance counselors about their experiences related to the purpose of the study.The most important aspects of the result were that employability is difficult to define. Skills development within the workplace of professional guidance counselors in the town where the study was made, suffers from a lack of financial resources. Mainly you and partly your headmaster are both responsible for your skills development. It was also found that networking is of importance for professional guidance counselors to among other things provide support and security.

Full textSay is it possible to counteract traditional gender patterns, even if structures shape us so that we unconsciously are guided to choose courses that lead to gender-traditional career choices? To learn about and provide tools for a practice-oriented work with gender equality in educational and vocational guidance is the purpose of this action research. The counselors involved have an interest in and knowledge of gender perspectives and can be seen as good examples. They participate through two interview sessions and a monthly focus on the mission to counteract traditional gender patterns. They use different methods and reports of positive, neutral, awkward, violent and negative reactions from applicants. The results describe how counselors view their mission and how they apply their knowledge in pedagogical practice. It also shows how they respond to and interpret the reactions they receive from applicants. In the process they increase their self-awareness resulting from the understanding of how hard it is not to construct the gender stereotypes. Method development is important to transform attitudes to positive action, but what matters is the attitude towards the mission. Conclusions drawn are that the mission to counteract traditional gender patterns may mean to detect these gender patterns in everyday life, refuse to categorize on the basis of gender and realize that if we are changing expectations, together we can change what is seen as normal.

Full textThis study examines how sport psychology consultants are working and whether their client work are methods or models which may be applicable in career counselling. The research questions that are answered in this paper are about the sport psychology consultant’s work and what differences there are in the two professional groups. And to see if certain parts of the advisers' work can be applicable or be complementary to the study and career counsellors models. The method chosen for the research was qualitative interviewing. The results that emerged indicated that they worked in a similar manner in the dialogue with the client, the primary approach, but one difference was that counsellors often work with applicants who are motivated to change and that they work with process and had more time for each client. We think that it’s possible for study and careers advisors could use parts from the advisors' approach to enhance and expand its own developed models and to renew their working tools. The hypothesis that the two professional groups worked similarly matched and that it is possible to take parts from working sued.

Full textThe overall aim of this study is to achieve the increased knowledge of the use of the counselling methods in the student counsellors' work and to find the possibilities for development. Two questions are used as guidelines:
Which counselling methods do student counsellors use in their work in schools?
How can the current education for the student counsellors be supplemented?
The analysis of the interviews with six counsellors in Stockholm's administrative province showed that even uneducated counsellors use the same counselling methods as the educated ones. All these methods which are used remind of the known counselling methods that are the part of the current education for the student counsellors.
In general counsellors experienced that the education for the counsellors should be supplemented within the field children with special needs and that conversation's methodology is the essence of the counselling work.
