Abstract:
The addition of indole and methyl indole at both high and ambient pressures to a series of Michael acceptors under the influence of ytterbium triflate was investigated. Under ambient pressure the more reactive and less sterically hindered electrophiles gave the expected 3-alkylated indoles in good to excellent yields. The more problematic Michael acceptors were subjected to pressures of 13 kbar. In all cases a dramatic reduction in reaction time and a significant improvement in yields was observed. In the cases involving 3-methylcyclohex-2-en-1-one, a by-product was formed and was characterize

Compounds 4a-e underwent imino Diels-Alder reactions with Danishefsky’s diene in the presence of Yb(OTf)3 catalyst to give products 1a-e. In order to increase the reaction efficiency, we tried many different conditions for compound 4a, and found that 30 mol% of Yb(OTf)3 in refluxing acetonitrile provided the best yield of 1a in 81%. With this optimized condition and slight variation of the amount of the Yb(OTf)3, the yields of 1b-e were also improved. Furthermore, we use

In this work, we developed two new orthogonal protecting groups for carbohydrates, namely 4-Acetoxybenzyl Carbonate (ABC) and 2-(Acetylsulfanyl)methyl Benzoate (ASMB). Both of them can be efficiently installed into different carbohydrate glycosides. Moreover, the two protecting groups can be selectively removed using Ytterbium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate [Yb(OTf)3] under mild reaction conditions.
