Abstract:
This chapter suggests that Helü was considered a legitimate ruler in the Wu royal linage as he inherited the authority passed down from the founder Taibo and King Shoumeng. It recounts the reign of King Liao, which was treated as a transitional period much like the short-lived Qin dynasty. It also notes that the traditions of the Wu king Helü and his successor Fuchai are titled as the “inner tradition,” while the two kings from Yue, Wuyu, and Goujian, are identified as “outer tradition.” The chapter follows the chronology of King Helü's rule, wherein the structure continues the Shiji tradition

This chapter talks about Fuchai, who was the last king of Wu. According to Sima Qian, Fuchai was a complicated and tragic figure who avenged his father's death, defeated Wu's long time rival Yue, extended Wu's influence to the north, and led Wu to become a political hegemon among the states. It focuses on the fall of the king of Wu by highlighting Fuchai's obstinance, his trust of dishonest words, his executions of loyal ministers, and the eventual decline of his state. It also omits the early successful years of King Fuchai and begins with the eleventh year of his rule, the year he ignored th

Abstract For more than 2,400 years, the great majority of the Chinese, except for a small number of Ru (Confucian) scholars, never even knew the Master’s real name, Kong Qiu; they always called him Kong Fuzi. Fuzi was not part of his name but a title of respect applied to the ministers at court in ancient times, equivalent to “Your Excellency” or “His Excellency” in the English language. His disciples addressed him by this title because he had once served as minister of justice in his native state, Lu. Later, the title was applied to all teachers, and it gradually picked up the connotation “ma

The first chapter broadly describes the zheng’s cultural and theoretical context. The zheng is a long bridged zither, one of three structurally similar Chinese musical instruments. The qin and the se, like the zheng, are Chinese zithers with a long past, but their cultural roles were dissimilar. The zheng also belongs to a large family of Asian zithers encompassing the Japanese koto, Korean kayagūm, Mongolian yatga, and Vietnamese đàn tranh. In the twentieth century, the Chinese zheng gained its first written histories, and these provide as much insight into their creators as they do into the

ABSTRACT: Volumetric fracturing technology is an effective tool for shale oil exploration. The developed bedding planes and strong inhomogeneity of continental shale make them limited in fracture seam height propagation, which restricts the efficient extraction of shale oil. To better understand the law of hydraulic fracture propagation in the vertical direction, a coupled hydraulic-mechanic-damage model is established based on the phase field method to study the propagation of fractures in bedded shales. Based on this model, the effects of fracturing fluid viscosity and alternative injection
